Don’t be afraid to buy younger cows on the point of calving or freshly calved. Your into money immediately and as long as you have a good vaccination program your disease risk should be at a minimum. You only live once.
Thanks for that.
And thanks to the others who replied too.
I can split the 20 hours/week across 5 days and is mostly flexible, outside of whatever 3-4 meetings I have to go to. Cow type is British Friesian and Holstein. No x-breds.
When you get the 2 sides of the parlour up and running it'll be a different story
Remember milking on one side for eight weeks when I was doing up the parlour a good few years ago. Some pain in the hole!
I don't think the Irish ai companies should have much fear re international companies stealing their genetics, after getting back genomic results here and anything with Irish genetics is only fit for burgers
Ì milked for a month on one side in new parlour as there was a stand of between the electrician and the guy who put in the augers over who'd pay for a broken motor on the augers. I wasn't paying for it as it was new
Is there no end to your endless lies and f@@king bullshit.
when I saw that I had a good laugh and thought to myself that they don’t want an international company able to make up over inflated fertility figures on a computer game (icbf)
Many of my cows with negative ebi for fertility have a sub calving interval of 365 days and actual production of 700kg ms plus for live time avg- what is a fertility figure of 200 going to do to these cows
Im no fan of ebi but daughter proven bulls proofs for milk and fertility are real your always going to get individual animals not turning out like they should on there sire dams proofs.
Even the poor farmers like myself with mox crosses and a bit of shorthorn back breeding ain't getting figures for fertility. I sold a cow 15 years old, always had a calf in February, ebi of 25. Surely she deserved a few points for fertility.
got a nice few quid for tillage aid in the bank last night for 2024- wasn’t expecting anything
Was that Irish genomics or did you get international company to do it
French company through world wide sires, used a "top quality" irish bull here to mop up a few years ago, and was always disgusted with his heifers, the genomics for them just showed up what I already knew, anything I had breed of ai with international bulls scored nicely
What does that service cost
dairy sale in Carnaross
nothing special about those prices as things are going ,but i would still prefer to be selling than trying to buy .i have one heifer bought ,want 3 more ,do i need them at that money,if could get grass based gentics with protein of 3.80 plus at your prices i would be happy ,anything i have gone after 3600\4100 price range.nice sale in new ross mart on friday from 2 herds but stock are only fit for winter milk men and i will not be milking in dec ,catalog shows dams and grand dams jumping from spring to winter calving and back again .
They are fairly special prices considering last years pessimistic outlook.
and dearer they’ll get with all the advice to breed less to fr and use more beef …
Have good simmental and ch bull calves, 10 days old. Would 300 be enough to ask?
Did many people get out after all the talk? I must ask my milk lorry driver.
i know of 2 lads who have changed their mind re selling the cows… unfortunately they didnt put cows incalf so not sure what the plan is
Don't know many who got out around here but no one seems to be expanding either.
Can't remember who I heard say it, but it seems Ireland Inc has now passed "peak milk". I'm guessing the co-ops will be happy if they can keep what supply they have and there'll be no more talk of flattening the supply curve or retirement schemes for suppliers.
the coops are more worried than you’d think …millions spent on stainless for a supply of milk that isn’t going to materialise ….it will have to be paid for somehow .there will be more amalgamations just like the tipp/arrabawn one ….but that looks like it has issues as it still isn’t gone thru and no info coming out
Where are they these daughter proven Irish high ebi genomics delivering 600+ of milk solids per cow
The thing is all around the world where dairy farmer numbers are reducing the remaining farmers are increasing yields to compensate but not here. Irish EBI has put the kibosh on that. Yields stuck in a rut by most lads using Irish bulls. When will the penny drop.
5 around the general area here 8mile radius all retired from 40cows to 120
Heard of a good ten in a 25 mile radius not intensive area here for dairy farmers
Jasus....…
Lot of trouble with a tipp dryer that was kept quiet 🤫
Ppl don’t know how to feed cows I’m convinced. We got 560kgs from ours last year and it was a fairly shite year for milking cows. We kept them fed and it was worth it
This is the first year in I'd say 20 years that the lorry has started the milk year with 2 day collections. Usually it is 3 days. I'm half expecting the lorry to switch to every day collection. Milk is not there and desperate to get it in.
