The new rules are helping. I've not seen an XL Bully in months & I live in an area that was full of them.
That certainly is a proof of new rules working. I haven't met one in 19 years in Ireland.
I’m not fooled. I absolutely expect every single one of these people to get the biggest, most dangerous dog they can get their hands on and I expect them to be as reckless and stupid with the new dog as they were with the XL. We’re not talking about people who are ever going to develop a sense of social responsibility or even basic human decency.
And you think fewer restrictions will help how, exactly?
There were a couple roaming free around my neighbourhood last night. Apparently they went after a couple of people out working their dogs. Its believed they were dumped by their owner because of the new laws. Not a great outcome.
Result today of the judicial review taken by a number of animal charities who believed XL bully definition was too vague and a capture all. The objective was to not see genuine owners penalised or dogs categorised wrong. The state rushed out the legislation without due care and now need to review.
“the review case taken by animal welfare groups over concerns that the regulations banning ownership of the XL bully were too vague and catching other bullies and breeds will be struck out after the State conceded to introduce an appeals mechanism for owners refused an exemption licence to keep their dog. The proceedings were set for a full-day hearing today, however, the court heard this morning that the State will now amend the regulations to incorporate an appeal mechanism. The State has also agreed to cover the legal costs of the six animal welfare groups that brought the case.”
Meanwhile, the bad eggs who weaponised the xl bully are already moving onto the next type of status symbol dog.
Another dog attack in Ireland, dog had to be shot by armed police.
Wonder what type of dog it was?

That's a false problem in terms of overall outcomes though. At worst it's a failure of the local authorities or whoever's job it is to supervise the immediate effects as the new rules come into effect: anyone abandoning their newly-defined dangerous dog should be FAR more severely punished than people who surrender them to a shelter.
But in any case it's a temporary problem, not a long term consequence.
More of an issue IMO is whether owners of dangerous dogs will be able to just move on to the next "new" fighting dog that hasn't yet been listed. That's down to how the legislation is written, but given the number of ill-thought-out pieces of legislation passed in the Dail over the decades (not related to dogs particularly) I fear the worst.
Very dangerous dog owner....using XL Bully as a weapon against AGS
Loon using a dog to intimidate Guards, nothing new to see there… Nothing to do with the dog, or the breed.
To be fair, it is something to do with the breed. She wouldn't have set a King Charles on them.
Seriously? So a Garda would be terrified of a Poodle or Yorkie...?
Oh my, she would probably set a mouse if she had one. Nothing to do with the dog breed.. Don't be ridiculous .
Defo
Me thinks you need to remove the XL-Bully blinkers. They hare not a restricted /controlled breed for no reason. Even the name of the breed indicates aggression, intimidating etc…
Article mentions that this ‘lady’ is 54.
Something something dog years?
I don't have a blinkers on, and I certainly don't judge the dogs by breed's name.
There's fair share of posts here showing how much of use is restricted breeds list here, or around the world..
Blinkers or not, reading didn't kill anyone so far. Worth of try.
I don't have a blinkers on, and I certainly don't judge the dogs by breed's name
Clearly you are not aware that most of the recent serious dog attacks in this country are attributed to one breed.
That's just attacks presented by media..
Not to mention majority happened to the owners, or family members ?
Again peeps buying dogs they haven't got a clue about etc.. All mentioned in this thread.
Yeah that's the kind of stupidity this thread was missing so far..
It would actually be great to post some statistics on dog's attacks in this country.. If you have any share it please.
Couldn't help it since you are so sure, I'll wait with fingers crossed.
There you go with those blinkers again
It would actually be great to post some statistics on dog's attacks in this country.. If you have any share it please
I said majority (from above said mentioned media reports) I dont have a % but I trust that our media are reporting serious attacks accurately.
Its not the gun that kills people the gun is innocent.
Well there's always someone to pull the trigger isn't it..
So basically nothing. That's what I thought. Thanks
I don't know what you are getting at here. You obviously have some skin in the XL bully dog game. However, I don't, and am not trying to make any point or prove any point. I am not interested in %, however, you seem to think my disinterest in quoting a percentage, proves something. It don't ...XL Bully Dogs are deemed a dangerous breed and that is 100% fact
Goodbye..
Don't think using deemed and 100% fact in one sentence works as intended..
You obviously have some skin in the XL bully dog game.
No skin involved in XL bully dog game, if that's the way to talk now.
I have three dogs, non of them are part of the game..
Two of them would happily own you for talking shíte tho..
Again aggression is not inherited trait to any dog breed unless there are serious medical or genetic conditions involved.
It's always down to clowns who doesn't look properly after their dogs, dogs are not being socialised, dogs being left in pain, dogs being bred ass way, endless list to go on. Look at the number of articles in the newspaper related to reckless breeders being prosecuted for leaving their dogs to suffer in bad conditions and peeps do buy dogs from those people..
Well anyway I can see from your post you are not interested, so yeah I can give you my goodbye too.
Mod: Warned for uncivil post
"Two of them would happily own you"
That says enough tbh.
Think you've deliberately misunderstood. More one liners coming?
Of course it has something to do with the dog breed, in fact it is ALL ABOUT the dog breed.
Jesus Christ, are you trying deliberately to be obtuse here?
Another one of those.
in fact it is ALL ABOUT the dog breed.
Please do post some facts, instead of
Edit: caps not needed. You can always give your hindsight on the problem. Backed up by something.. None of posts similar to yours actually displayed anything informative on the problem.
