Old Age Pensioner discounted electric

Hey,

My mother in her mid 70's recently moved in with us as she is not the best health. She was telling me that she gets a discounted electric due to her age but i am not sure if this is true since i never seen one of her bills. She should be getting a bill in the next few week so I can confirm then. Do OAP get discounted electric and if so how would i go about getting this now that she lives with us.

If she's living on her own she would have. No that she's with you she doesn't get it.

If they put the electric or gas bill in their name they will get it, €35 a month, also free TV licence...

That’s not actually the case.
The household benefits package isn’t means tested and is available to anyone over 70. It also includes a free television licence.

You / Your mum may potentially be entitled to other benefits such as fuel allowance, but these are means tested.

The household benefits package is available to anyone over the pension age-66 yrs at the mo.It's e1.15 a day not 35 a month for gas or electricity.Free TV licence incl from the next renewal date after 66th birthday.Only the fuel allowance is means tested and only for over 70s.Living alone allowance is seperate and applies at pension age
