Presently minus 17c, minus 25 with windchill in Greater Montreal. We had three snowfalls totalling 72,4cm over 4 days from thursday to sunday. This beat a record from 1898. Driving through a blizzard twice was a major stress. The temperatures were very low and the compacted snow became icy.
The highways are always better because of their constant snow clearing operations, but fast accumulation is difficult to deal with. They are also prone to whiteouts where vehicle pileups are likely. This time there weren’t major pileups.
Unlike most cities, Montreal and suburbs clear sidewalks as well as streets with small tractors but a lot of these are still filled with snow.
The snow removal operations follow snow clearing on streets and this should last from one to two weeks.
Clear skies with hazy sunshine in Limk. City this am. Calm, 8c.
