Jaysus ….and how do you know tgat now tell us
I know her father well if you must know.
yep correct. Those 2 paddocks got grazed in November last year with the incalf heygers while we were concreting a feed passage. Usually there’s more grass in those 2 paddocks
Afc of 1050 across the farm so plenty out there
Layout of the yard/ cubicle shed here till we get the new tank and feed passage finished my first 2 paddocks behind the yard have to be grazed first till I get a good shot calved so I can move gates around.
they’re full of maize and silage any way. No pint in starting them on heavy covers either
Hard to beat a good deep bed of old bedding so cows can get a good foothold getting up. The trick is to spray it with BAM to keep the bugs down. Also does a great job breaking down the bedding for spreading.
that’s worse ….going around talking crap about people u know behind there back …very much doubt there’s much of what u outlined going on there
I didn't know grasstomilk was a woman. Have em out here by day for a few hours, their very content
the trick is not having super smooth concrete
Grasstec did a video on a big UK farm that calves on rubber mats and it's a just in time type system. You'd want a lot of labour to be watching and picking them out. Sand bedded cubicles for cleanliness and grip for the cows that do calve in the cubicles.
Sure we'll agree to disagree so. Personally, I like to have facilities first and stock later.
Just got a beautiful fr heifer here. Was a nice surprise when I went to fill out the details for registration that it was off my own AI bull. Proud moment.
Same as what I do. I have cubicle mats in the calving box alright. Very easy to clean. Have you a link for the BAM?

May I ask what is the makeup of the mix and do you balance the Maize with a higher protein feed?
50:50 maize and silage. 1kg soya/hd and 4 kgs of an 18% in the parlour. when they’re at grass I generally don’t try to balance the maize too much. I would add in soya if they’re in by night or aren’t going to get out during the day
How many kgs per head of that mix? Are you just buying 25kg bags of soya to add as you need?
Hey lads don't post too often here but here it goes! My water heater in for the dairy has given up so what are people using here? Pros and cons
3 options i think
Dairy geyser
Gas heater(instant hot water)
Or electric( have pv solar panels on roof)
no I get 5 t tipped up in a shed as I need it. Feeding .75 kgs to dry cows along with 2 kg straw so use a nice bit from December to early March. offering them 14 kg silage and 14 kgs maize atm. 70 odd calved in the last week, quite busy, not concerned on them eating it all up atm as long as they’re kept full
What had you? Were you happy with it?
If electric was working for you, its by far the cheapest and easiest to install and run
dairy geyser very cheap to run you can put a kerosene tank any place handy near it the gas heater storage tank there is a lot of regs and you will have enough scalding water for the parish downside very noisy and the fumes can be a bit much
I have gas and just having instant and constant hot water is invaluable in the post Chlorine age. You can do a hot descale followed by a hot wash on plant, and it doesn't matter if milk tank is washing at the same time. But the fact you have solar panels would suggest you would have to make use of them and go electric
Replace with two electric put both on night rate theres nothing cheaper i can guarantee

We had a dairy geyser, put it in 2018. Found it brutal unreliable, took it out and put in a Cotswold electric heater 3 years ago which I am very happy with. Bought dairy geyser through coop and know I wasn't only one with Hugh issues with it. Grand when it worked but just too unreliable and backup wasn't great. Heater at to go to cork for service.
That's a few years ago so maybe they have those issues resolved
water inlet on Cotswold heater is on a timer and so cold water never mixes with the hot water, get the full 300 litres at 75°c.
Friend of mine has the cotswold aswell, set up similar to that. He swears by it. Just have standard electric boiler myself.
What type of gas heater have you? Have you the flogas tank and installation? Instant hot water on demand sounds good. Have solar panel heated water boosted to 85c with gas boiler, boiler had stopped working
we need to improve our hot water here and was going to go with a Cotswold heater too. Heard very good reports about them
Ive a geyser and it uses some amount of fuel- not effecient at all
My plumber friend was saying to stay clear of it when I was looking a few years ago. I have hard water. I turn on the immersion manually, when I'm passing, as the elements don't last with our water if left on full-time.
Night rate was mentioned earlier, can you change to Night rate, I would have no other use for it, only water heating, as I carry the kids to school before milking, so the cooling would not be an advantage. Solar would probably suit better.
Have the flogas and couldnt recommend. Very sensitive to lime and seems to not work as much as it does work. Hot water on demand seems much removed from the heater i have. Will be going back to electric
