Hardly, you just drive it back on the ferry and a customs agent will have it cleared within 10 minutes. I’ve done it many times since Brexit.
@Gumbo The VAT and customs element will be 35.3% of the invoice price + freight. VRT will be pricey but thankfully very low Nox.
Yea I know loads of lads importing again from UK, using a customs agent to do the entry makes it simple- but expensive. VRT will be €200 if she’s over 30 years old. Off track but Irish dealers can claim back the UK vat.
Buying anything in NI seems to be massively more expensive, often double the price of England for older/ classics. They generally sit for sales for years.
Also if importing something originally manufactured in the U.K no duty applies, just VAT and VRT
What are customs agents charging these days?
Have my eye on an older cabrio for the summer and UK has way more choice.
Technically the import VAT isn’t actually paid by dealers. We only pay 10% customs duty on import and the 23% VAT gets postponed until the car is sold, but we have to pay VAT on the full sales price, minus the import VAT. Whereas pre Brexit you just paid VAT on the gross profit margin, and no customs duty.
But vintage cars are actually exempt from customs duty as they are classed as collectible items, so in that case a VAT registered dealer would actually pay no customs duty or VAT on import, but would pay VAT on the full sales price of the car, minus the import VAT.
Its not expensive at all. I pay €80 per declaration. Other companies are charging between €100 and €150 tho.
Pant on the back is poor, the front bumper doesn't look great/it's not fitting correctly, and is that overspray on the front wheel-arch liner?
The whole car needs a full respray in reality, if car was good enough to warrant it. even with a 2k full respray it would be a nice vehicle.

that looks a solid car from the pictures, if its as good as it looks , it seems a good buy
Stunning looking and very cool. Never sold here. Seems to be pretty original apart from the seats and possibly the radio. Not sure what the thing in the dashboard is, but it's a lovely car for €7,000
It's in Malta, would you chance driving this back by road? If not, then Ro-Ro to the UK or container to here.

Lovely car.
The thing under the glove box is an air conditioner, possibly after market.
There used to be a few of these around back in the day. Thought it was a neat design back then and still is today, over 30 years later.
1994 Rover 216 Coupe. MOT to May 2025.
Auto box and only 110bhp mean it's no sports car, but it has a kind of a targa roof (IIRC), where you can take the glass panels out and store them in the boot.

11 owners! The S280 so underpowered it probably explains the number of owners all realising how slow it was! Drinks like a fish as well!
Could be got for a grand. A project. People like to ask a lot for these on done deal.
I have a work colleague in Germany who is restoring his parents old one. He's doing it for sentimenmatal reasons (I know, I know).
He's had €4,500 of welding done to it and still has to refit the interior (original Westfalia) and take it back to the TUV. Then it needs to be painted. When they go, they go.
The one above has the MOT test attached, seems the rust has taken the B pillar out, and if it's gone on that side, then it's due on the other side in the next 2 years.
That's only fit to be stripped for a conversion onto a decent T4 (yeah, so and find a decent one), then sell the engine, box, and any other spares. Seller knows this too, which is why it's up for sale for so little.
recent sighting in Turkey.
1974 Tofas Murat 124 (based on the Fiat 124)
looked in decent condition given it's 51 y/o and certainly compared to some of the other (newer) oldtimers i saw over there.

Renault 5 Campus prima with recent MOT pass the last owner had this car for over 20 years. We have owned it for 5 years, originally a non runner, but with a new starter motor and fuel pump she is now running nicely. Lots of receipts and MOT history.
