Well I think that indirectly answers the question re: an obligation to be civil not just to other posters but to radio personalities. It appears there is.

Indeed as Radio falls under Entertainment... to Entertainment personalities in general?

It may not be AH but it is Boards.

So to say it falls under "Dont Be A Dick" as if that makes it obvious - well that rule also applies to AH and other Boards forums and it certainly and demonstrably is not interpreted that way. So it would not create such an expectation in the minds of posters.

If there is such a rule / local interpretation in Radio then examples such as you have given make it clearer.

eg "personalised attacks on Radio personalities, or gestalt made derogatory converts about them or the families."

I just want to be clear on the new rules to not fall foul of them and also because I can see mods having their hands full due to such inconsistency across forums of the same Dont Be A Dick rule.

I know the answer you want here @Tow and why as well. Without giving examples as long as your comments aren’t personalised it’s fine to consent in equipment and sound. Presentation skills as well but not in a personalised manner.

I genuinely feel that even with these new rules there is a lot of subjectivity here and that will I feel be subject to some abuse (unfortunate choice of wording given the subject matter) by posters with differing views on what constitutes abuse or a personal attack etc.

What concerns me is if I post something that is intended humoursly I can potentially be reported by another poster taking offence on behalf of a third party.

We are told “Don’t be a dick”, but if Presenter A behaves like a dick it seems we are now forbidden from commenting on it, which seems rather weird. By way of example Mr. Tubridy posted a picture of himself reading on the tube recently. I doubt even his biggest fans would pretend it wasn’t completely staged - are we allowed comment on this and call out this fakery. falseness, or staged behaviour? And if so do we have to couch it in “in my opinion he is…….” language? I’d really appreciate some clarity on this and from reading the comments I don’t think I’m alone in that.

Similarly, can we comment on Ms. Garrihy’s seemingly never-ending endorsements, paid promotions, brand ambassadorial work and so on? Or any other presenter doing this kind of thing?

Finally for now, I again repeat something I asked last week on this thread. I’m at somewhat of a loss to understand why these public figures who happen to work in radio are being afforded a different status to say sporting individuals? I’m not a sports fan but by way of example I looked at a football and rugby thread this past weekend on this site. The abuse thrown at players and management was far beyond anything I’ve seen in my short time on radio. Players and managers were abused with abandon; the c-word was thrown about regularly, and a player was called a derogatory term used to describe members of the travelling community. The interaction between fans of opposing teams was not exactly “civil” either. It does seem like quite a double standard.

To all.... Carry on as normal. The mods will let you know fairly quickly if your comments cross a line. The charter cannot cover every single possible scenario, phrase or discussion. Moderators use their discretion all the time. The rules have been outlined. The moderators will apply them.

Stop looking for loopholes or interpretations. Don't be a dick.

Well the thread title was changed to be very restrictive, and suggests that one can't discuss things outside Tub's radio show. It's not just about his show, it's about him as a radio presenter.

The thread title should at least remain accurate, which it originally was.

That money was contractually obligated payments, when RTE didn’t renew his contract it meant Ryan was unable to pay it back. Not that he had any obligation to.

It, really, has nothing to do with him as a presenter or his radio shows.

One can easily argue it relates to why Tubridy is presenting on a particular radio station and not on RTE, and how it relates to future employment as a radio presenter for that broadcaster and others.

This is not commentary - this is feedback on the scope of a thread in the Radio forum which has undergone a title change by moderator, and attempts to limit the content of that thread.

The issue of that 150K should still be allowed to be discussed and debated within reason and no one should be permitted to or attempt to censor that subject irrespective of whether they have a vested interest or not.

Yes, it would have been negotiated into his new contract or appearances would have been arranged.

The whole thing was an RTÉ problem from the start. They agreed to the contract, and everything it contained. The way went about paying it had nothing to do with Ryan, or his manager, as the Oireachtas committee pointed out.

Ryan is on public record saying he would pay it back. The money has not change to soul and his agent says he is the most trusted man in Ireland.

It's been done to death, and if you haven't gotten a satisfactory answer in this length of time, asking again is hardly likely to yield different results. Also, unless he signs up himself to contribute you are unlikely to get an answer. Just ongoing speculation from people who haven't a clue. It's the same as a thread full of slagging Joe Duffy's accent. It's like Groundhog Day in here.

The forum needs change, and the moderators are directing that change. It's the Radio Forum. Please discuss radio, radio programmes, radio content. Radio presenters can be discussed, but at least try do so in the context of their job.

We've heard all the hilarious remarks on Joe's accent. We've heard all your thoughts on Tubridy and his dealings with RTE, his online musings and his Tube photos. Any chance we can have something different in the forum now?

My purpose is not to derail a feedback thread so this will be my last input on the 150K. In my opinion the subject is in the public eye, regardless of the level of incompetence with respect to RTE as to how they may have administered/managed the contract, it comes down to a moral reflection for the subject. Again, being a public figure their public image and how they maybe perceived by same should be of paramount importance.

I am not being disrespectful when I respond to your posts ok? But just to highlight your request (I am specifically referring to the Tubridy thread here) for something different in the forum now. Untill Tubridy has a change of attitude or decides to offer something different himself, he is always going to have a large sample of the public being critical of him. Whether it's broadcasting, social media posts or publications, you cannot expect those criticisms to go away especially when Tubridy is providing material which is wide open to criticism on a daily basis.

You asked a specific question for which I answered. The radio show is only part of Tubridy's presentation to the public which finds itself open to criticism.

Why do you not actively contribute to the Tubridy thread and put forward a genuine healthy argument for Ryan then?

I’ve contributed as much as I’d like. I didn’t really like the made up conversations or the stuff about Ryan not being able to read.

I don’t listen to his show so I stick to threads on shows I do listen to. The thread is still open and the guy is on air every, that’s still an awful lot to work with.

This is the Radio forum. If you really feel the need to criticise other aspects of the man then find a more suitable forum to do so. I'm sure you even have your own social media accounts. You can continue to post whatever you like there.

This is the Radio forum. We would like discussion in this forum to be mainly radio related. There has been very little radio discussion here of late.
