The Hyundai INSTER sub-compact EV with 355km range will be officially released later this month. It was teased today and based on the CASPER ICE model available in some markets. Thoughts?
No. But there could be. Go for it. 🤣
I think that last line might sum things up! Re the colour, I wasn't fussy on it so was assigned a colour that would allow me to get the car as soon as possible as that spec and colour was "on the next ship". Anyway, hopefully my faith in Hyundai will be redeemed with no (further) delays with the Inster.
Did anyone get a VIN yet for the March shipment please?
how do you get one?
The dealer can see it on their system once the car was manufactured & ready to ship.
300km review - Korean spec but video in English.
Emailed my dealer this morning and he said it will be 2/3 weeks, no reason given for the delay. Has anybody seen one of the buttermilk/hounds tooth ones in a dealership? That would give some credence to the possibility that the dealers have taken all the stock from the first shipment as demos.
When I ordered my one they told me they would have a Demo car in Feb for test drives, but I haven't heard anything from them since.
There is one in the showroom window in Wexford that I think is Buttermilk.
Just got off the call with the dealer in Mullingar. They can only see that it's in transit, Hyundai has given no other info to dealerships.
I was passing a different dealer today and they had a white elegance on the showroom floor. Couldn't resist a quick pull in to remind myself what's it's like, felt lovely to sit in even with the dark upholstery.
There you go fiends, five insters on the top deck spotted this morning on Cork north ring. Theres probably more on the dockside in Cork to be moved.
My Launch Edition second from the back there 😛
Im sure thats my order there! LOL
Hutton and Meade near Blanchardstown have a Khaki green one in their showroom and it looks very well in that colour.
Matt Watson from Carwow reviewed one in black and it didn't look well at all imo.
For those that have ordered, could I ask if you did a test drive?
If you did, did you find the cabin cramped at all? My wife is currently driving a Seat Ateca (not a huge car by any means) and would be interested in this.
We didn't do a test drive, but we sat in it. We've got an Ioniq 5 as our main car and our teenager is over 6 foot tall with long feet.
Even he was very comfortable sitting in the Inster in all seats including the driver seat. He adjusted the steering wheel / seat for himself and it all looked very good. Plenty of leg room and headroom.
It's only the width that reveals it's a tiny car - especially when you make movements towards the door. ...but again, after sitting in an Ioniq 5 which is pretty huge inside.
We were all very impressed with the internal space in the Inster.
Thanks, we plan on a test drive soon.
I did a test drive in November. The car has plenty of room inside for its size. I had no problems in the front or the rear and Im a big guy. I did notice road noise sitting in the back but Im usually a driver and never sit in the back so maybe it was normal.
The Khaki Green is the color I ordered, good to here it looks well. I saw the Black one in Carwow alright and it wasn't great. I saw the white one at the NEVO show in Dublin and it was fine. I don't fancy the light interior color on it but I think that's only the launch edition?, but its still nice overall and amazing space in it for a small car.
Where did you do the test drive in November?
Just got a call, my car is ready for collection.
I've been critical of the dealer before but fair play, they've redeemed themselves this time around, only a week or so delay after.
Prepare yourself for lots of questions!
Photos please!!
can i ask if you can mention what dealer?
I'll answer as many as I can. I'll post a pic whenever I collect it, might be early next week or so. Wexford, he said they got two in this morning.
When I ordered my Inster launch edition I was given a delivery date of March at the earliest due to the high level of interest. In retrospect it may have just been a sales tactic to get me to order then and there because I just got a call today to say it could be ready for collection today depending on the paperwork - grant and registration etc. Price is the one I was quoted so sneaky extra charges.. Dealership is in Dundrum which is not local to me but just happened to have the roadshow one on the particular Sunday I was free to check it out.
Looks like I'll be picking up Saturday as I need to decide whether to trade in or sell my old car privately and also inster needs to be registered and insured etc. Also car mats not in until tomorrow!
Did any Signature model arrive into the country yet?
My SO and I both did a short test drive. Comfy to drive and ergonomics felt nice. I wouldn't call it the best handling hot hatch but it's planted on the road. Wife says the seating position is nice and commanding. Says although it's a small car but has an SUV type feel when behind the wheel (we have an MY as our primary). I guess visiblity won't be an issue for female drivers.
Car feels airy and feels like it's very easy to monitor the blind spots. We wish it came with 360° cameras all round and V2L plug under the center console, but existing package not bad at all. The infortainment system felt nice, I wish the i-pedal settings stayed on but they go back to default when you turn the car off. I like one pedal driving on our MY and would be nice if the inster remembered the iPedal settings. Not a huge deal though. We ordered Matte Blue color as our MY is wrapped in dark matte purple. I am hoping the washing regime I have for the MY would work for Inster too.
Not sure when we'll get ours as Matte Blue doesn't seem like the choice of the masses based on the comments here and on others social media. Boot opens nicely. Another use case we thought about was our dogs (1 small and 1 medium size dog). It's very easy to keep them in MY's boot. We'll probably have to fold the rear seats in the Inster to carry 2 dogs but if you have just 1 small dog, I think you can probably manage. Isofix we couldn't try, but given how wide the rear door opens, I reckon it will be pretty easy. only 2 people in the back is kinda nice. I'd rather have 2 people sitting comfortably than 3, where nobody is happy. I am not too familiar with Hyundai / KIA's infotainment system so did not try to fiddle with settings too much, but coming from an MY I think it would be straightforward.
Headroom is very good and even people north of 6 ft. should feel comfortable. I'll put a more comprehensive review once we get ours, however I only recall above points from our short interaction with the car. But if I can recall more, I'll add it here. PS: Although the wheels for elegance are 17", because the tyres have low profile, would be interesting to see how it fairs on rough country roads. It didn't feel bad, but still the low profiles tyres are something to consider.
