You seem to know a lot about it. Do tell.
There's a self service pump in maxol, maybe that is open 24hrs?
Anyone used fixmypc in Kilcock for laptop repair?
Or can anyone recommend anyone else in the Maynooth area?
Lidl shutting on 8th of feb until november.
Big renovations to it or making bigger?
Demolish and replace. It's one of the older stores, its already had a minor extension (bakery) and densification of the aisles. It's in pretty rough order, leaks and so on; and the carpark is in bits.
I think they have to install a bottle bank here as part of the planning, which will be exceptionally useful. Never been one south of Supervalu.
Main street is closed this evening from 1900 - 2100 for this St Bridget's Day event: https://spiritofbrigid.ie/event/luxe-theatre-landscape-maynooth/
Main St closed for an event about a day that actually happens four days later. You couldn’t make it up.
The festival runs for a lot longer than one day.
yeah i really wished the kept it at 11, 12 was admittedly a bit late & 24 hours was probably bonkers in hindsight, but that extra hour was really useful, especially on friday or saturday
Power gone yet again in Celbridge. Just shows the pressure still on ESB - estimated restore given is 5th Feb 17.45. Let's hope it's just a default estimate, but wouldn't be surprised with them flat out in the West (as they should be obviously). But honestly, getting sick of these frequent outages in Celbridge. If I have to throw out yet snother fridge of food I'll be raging. Is Maynooth affected as often? This is number 4 in 6 months - only one storm related (Éowyn). Mobile signal very patchy also this time - held up during Éowyn outage but completely out the last few times.
Not that I know of, but we do get water outages instead
Oh, we get those too! Half the town has had no water for around 10-12 days overall in the last 6 months. Constant major bursts over at Hazelhatch.
Thankfully, the power returned after 3.5 hours last night.
In Maynooth nearly 25 years and only time I’ve noticed no electricity was when there was a planned installation of a new substation.
There were 2 power outages during office hours last year. Main street out to the Kilcock road at least was affected.
Certain areas of the town are much less likely to lose power than others, out towards the motorway and 'new' Greenfield particularly. I have no idea why.
Pretty close to the entire town is underground supply and has been for decades (the overhead wires in places are mostly Eir and Virgin) so it's not that.
There were two power outages in Dec 2023. I though one was due to a truck hitting an overhead line near Main St. (The other was an issue in the substation).
There was a new substation out in around then in Newtown on one of the green areas at Beaufield.
Planning to convert the old Ulster Bank into a doctors surgery has been refused: https://www.eplanning.ie/KildareCC/AppFileRefDetails/2461009/0
Someone should tell the builders who are busy knocking down exterior walls there today. Lot of work going on.
Most of the internal mods would be exempted development; its the change of use that needs planning
Looks like it was the facade that was the issue...
"Having regard to the proposal which includes alterations to the front façade of a building located in Maynooth Architectural Conservation Area, and the architectural language of the proposed façade, it is considered that the proposed development would have a significant negative impact on the special character of Maynooth Architectural Conservation Area."
Maybe this is why they were demolishing the facade earlier today. It can't be an issue if it doesn't exist!
Not to mention that the hoarding they have built restricts the footpath quite a lot.
They revised the frontage in the FI application to something even more like other buildings o. the street
FFS, I thought it might have been refused for parking or some such reason, not something like this. I wonder though, is there a GP lined up to go into the unit? It would be good if it was a new surgery vs relocation of one of the existing practices.
Not a shop but (according to Maynooth Notice Boards on Facebook) the Airport Hopper has stopped running. Just to warn anyone who may have a trip lined up
Thats a shame! It was a handy service but it definitely wasnt profitable.
Carton House has got a Michelin Star
Chef Adam Nevin is from Maynooth. He's only been there 18 months, and he's only 30. That's incredible, fair play to him
on the theme of things closing early, the university library only opens till 10 now, was midnight for as long as since i started college back in the day.
Well. This is going to be chaos.
