Only thing with Hausken, if you notice bad grouping or flyers with a Hausken then the cause might be that the baffle holes are generally on the tight side. I use a 243 on the 223 and bored out the 30 cal mods by almost 0.5mm. edi

I was going to start a new thread, but came across this one.
After the few years since this original post, what are people using now / how have the moderators above held up?
My moderator appears to have a pin hole in it (looks like something came out the side of it) and so im thinking it's time to get another.
Anyone got any recommendations for a 308 stalking setup?
A lot of places seem to be stocking RRC.
Seeing as I started this thread, it was actually a while after I asked that I ended up picking up a Mod.
I went with the RCC M48, I find it good, I use mine for deer stalking aswell
Thanks Rifter,
I picked up same (RRC M48) for the 243 on Saturday. It's a good bit heavier than the Hausken, but seems OK, I put 7 rounds down to zero and check group on the 243.
Bet thats a Hausken. They all seem to rot in the same place. Aluminium although it’s light is going to wear out eventually.
You're spot on.
In fairness, I got it 2nd hand and although it was spotless (on the outside) I've no idea how many rounds went down it before I got it. And I've had it about 2 years.
It has the wire wool between the baffles.
I'm going to try open it, just to see if I can spot what went wrong.
For now I'm on the lookout for a new light weight replacement. OR.... maybe I will see how I get on without one. as I want to keep the rig light as a stalking rig 🤔
Both of mine have the wire wool in between the baffles. It does further suppress the sound. The 22/250 is the one more used and has the hole. Just have to accept that they are consumables. Or you go down the route of an ASE stainless or similar.
And do you use it with the hole in it?
I was unsure to keep using it or not.
I see Wildcat have x3 versions of the new Elite (mental money) one of them is Titanium. Any thoughts on these?
Ardee have 2 models in stock
I am using dpt overbarrel moderators with the stainless baffle on my 308 And 204 for the last few years .
They are holding up well with little signs of wear.
I was looking at them (seen mention of them in previous posts here) but couldn't find any stockists, at lease nothing jumped out at me in a google search.
I got mine in N ireland .
Patrick carley in wexford used to sell them but don't know if he still does.
VITAL that you clean the Mod. As when you fire off a round, there are all sorts of harmful and corrosive gases formed in the powder burn, like Ammonia that will start working on the insides of the Mod in no time at all.Inc water vapour which will form due to the heat of the round and our generally moist climates atmosphere.
There are enough posts here of lads looking for advice on how to remove stuck mods from their rifles, because on neglecting to remove and clean their Mods and following up looking for advice on dealing with damaged barrel crowns and rusty bores.
It's why I prefer take down models like the Danish Nielsen, and who have superb after sales service as well.Replaced for me gratis a damaged baffle from a bullet strike,as it was so unusual for them to actually see one on their products. If it was a sealed can,it would be proably junk from the bullet strike.
Matter of personal choice, but I've never been convinced by the sealed can"never needs cleaning" concept for us civvies. It seems more like somthing that can take a high rate of fire, and then you get issued a new one when your mission is over or you have melted it off the barrel of your LMG or whatever,so it doesn't need cleaning at all.Just replacing at the taxpayers expense.
I would recommend a Stalon, have one on my 243 now and had anohter one on my 223 before that. Excellent moderator, easy to clean and sound reduction is excellent.
ASE UTRA SL5 for all bolt guns, the best. Had them over 15 years and + 10,000 rounds through one.
Ive even had the threads changed on one and gave it as a gift to a friend who needed one. (Cost inc shipping was about 50 euro, to Scotland to the gunsmith who services them)
Buy once and from getting my first one with the rifle I bought in 2010 its been excellent
Keeps excellent groups at all ranges. I use a sonic cleaner and Silencer cleaning fluid on all my Mods and never have an issue.
I had a wildcat moderator exploded yesterday, the front part is missing.
Baffle is chipped.
No I have to get part's and Ardee are the only ones.
So I'm thinking of a Housken with mesh, €400 Tom Murray fire arms dealer
That sounds like a very bad baffle strike.
How're the threads on the rifle afterwards?
I’ve two wildcat evolutions in 30 cal. But same thing happened a friend of mine twice with a 243 evolution. Replaced by dealer twice.
anyone using RCC hunters, or the Nielsen sonics or Stalin mods ?
