Something something Prendergoat
Have at it.
Collins v DeValera springing to mind here
I imagine if he'd meant to say that, he would have actually said that
Yes, Big Fella vs Long Fella
😁
This is much worse.
The above were at least both Munster men 🤣
Dev would be a stretch to be munster, maybe some heritage there
It’s an inference, sure. But I don’t think it’s a huge one considering what Borthwick said; see eagle eyes post above. The larger point is that the majority think Crowley played better. I agree with them. I’m curious, for example, what Eggchasers thought?
What makes you think he played better, can you reference a particular moment, or stat? I'm genuinely interested, not **** stirring.
”Dev” and “Stretch”, you say? 😉
Ahh, I think that was what he meant 'though. That having been said, Borthwick's opinions are in danger of becoming less relevant if the reaction of England fans are to be believed.
The same Easterby who said 'we had a strong kicking game' in his post match comments?
Feel some here are really over relying on vague throwaway coach comments.
I think Sam had higher highs and lower lows than Jack.
The fact Jack has been named in a couple of teams of the week shows what a poor week it was for 10s. To open a different can of worms do we think Sam had a better game than Marcus?
Yeah whatever you think. If I was in his position I wouldn't say that he was better than the other guy.
Why would he mention one guy and not the other?
He said one of them made a significant difference. If you don't take that as saying the guy he's referencing was the better out-half you are deluded.
Like he'd have said that both of them made a big difference if he thought that.
Game was gone when Fin Smith came on at 10 & Marcus went to 15, but England began to attack (obv in search of the LBP). I'd have Fin at 10 & Marcus at 15 (& Steward as far away as possible) vs France. Cadon Murley, despite his howlers, should start again.
I would say Smith was the best out-half.
It’s the post match presser from the losing coach. It’s dull platitudes, being gracious in defeat and reasons to believe that next week will be better. I’d say Borthwick has bigger things to worry about, like holding onto his job, than the pros and cons of the Irish 10s.
Only one appeal to authority matters, we’ll find out what it is on Thursday.
Indeed, and what about what you think? Care to elaborate on your position with actual substantive points, rather than using inference about someone's statement to support your ideas?
I already told you what I think and I didn't rave about Crowley. I said he was better but not by a huge amount. As I said I believe Crowley was average and SP below average. I didn't say SP was terrible or that Crowley was even good.
So Crowley was better in my opinion but as I've said I don't believe we'll see a change for the Scotland game. I'm of the opinion if the same thing happens in the Scotland game that we will see Crowley starting the next game.
I would have possibly thought the same. But the got yellow carded and fell off 2 tackles for 2 tries. I’m glad Sam didn’t have those mistakes!
It is a pretty huge leap to me and you seem to be doing it consistently since the match.
Eggchasers, like most outside of a certain bubble, didn't make the reductive argument 'x played better than y' like you're claiming the majority have. They spoke about their general performances in isolation, not comparing the two, and they described SP as 'very good' and JC as 'excellent' (or it could have been SP 'good' and JC 'very good'). I'm sure you'll be leaping with that.
It is pretty hard to really judge two players when one subs in for the other, as they tend to be facing completely different circumstances. It is why most tend to grow out of taking any value from player ratings by the time they hit 15 years old, aside from those who publish them for clicks.
Vibes, basically. As was already mentioned, SP had more defenders beaten and line breaks, which rather flies in the face of your assertion that Crowley was more threatening with ball in hand.
If you want to open an even bigger can of worms but a better comparison than what is happening today, who had a better game starting the opening 6 nations game - JC against France in 2024 or SP against England in 2025?
You see you have skin in the game because you are a Leinster fan who never seems to see fault in any of their performances. There's Munster fans just like you.
I'm a Connacht fan with no skin in the game. I was at Leinster's CC semi-final last year shouting for them. I've been in the RDS many times and shouted for them except when they were playing Connacht. I've also been to Thomond and supported Munster against non-Irish opposition.
I look at games with no agenda. I do think people are being harsh on Hansen but this is the first time I've said anything about that and I realise I could be a bit biased even though I don't think I am so I haven't argued with anybody about it.
I don't ever say Bealham should be starting for Ireland because Furlong is clearly a better player.
I do think Aki should be starting because he's been consistently very good over the last three years. He was in for world player of the year and he got the Ireland players player of the year a couple of months ago which backs that up.
So when I say Crowley was better on the day than SP I'm being honest. When I say that SP is the future and I'm very excited about that and believe he's going to be a great player I'm being honest.
When I say that I believe that Crowley at this moment in time is the more complete out-half I'm being honest.
I've no doubt that SP will be the most complete by the time he's 23.
Don't forget Crowley played for 21 mins and Prendergast 59.
That's a lot of words to say aren't going to back up your views with anything meaningful.
Put simply, I thought Crowley was much more consistent, and Prendergast had more errors. I’ll come back to you with more later on when I’ve time.
I appreciate your insights, look forward to it.
I had to go check. Your comment at the end was such a giveaway. 😉 It is funny tho, how initially you went to Eggchasers to “To get around the usual tribal blinkered analysis” but now they’re publishing players ratings for clicks.
who had a better game starting the opening 6 nations game - JC against France in 2024 or SP against England in 2025? Neither of them really set the place on fire in either match. Crowley took time to hit his stride, Prendergast will (hopefully) do likewise.
who had a better game starting the opening 6 nations game - JC against France in 2024 or SP against England in 2025?
And it's pointless talking to someone wearing blue goggles as you do.
Oh come on. We have two superb out halves who will only improve by working with either other. Let's not try and create another Ward-Campbell or O'Gara-Sexton divide. I am a Connacht fan by the way.
You have to remember that Prendergast was making his 6N debut against an England side who beat us last year and got to the World Cup semifinal (and lost by a point!). He also had 3 completely fresh and hungry 7s running at him at every opportunity and often got a late bump. Itoje was on his case all game too. 3 very good 7s and others told to target him. Even JGP was stressed dealing with them. Those same 3 were exhausted after their massive ruck workrate half way thru the 2nd half. Tom Curry could hardly walk after he scored the late try. As a 10, I would have much preferred to play the 2nd half of that game.
I thought Prendergast's passing was spot on. Especially the one to Aki who he worked well with all game. The kicking will come good with confidence.
I will say one one thing about Prendergast, he has funny run. He looks like he is limping. His gait doesn't affect his speed though.
Big fan of Crowley too and I'd have no fear of him if he starts against Scots.
I'd give the most credit for the last try to Sheehan (pass to Conan break and pass to Lowe). The try before that was made by JGP who did a lovely pass to Lowe (who was hiding behind Beirne). Prendergast made the pass for the Aki try.
