well agree to disagree ….how can u know for sure ….once upon a time I would of been worrying why I’m not matching any of these figures of so called top performers …..now I give less of 2 shites because there’s just 2 many variables plus I just don’t trust the figures ….my own from year to year I can …for me they are only figures that matter
I'd trust figures and farmer if you ask someone face to face to explain and it makes sense. I wouldn't even call bullshit anymore just disregard that person in future. Someone working in the industry said to me what I was doing isn't textbook but I can explain why I'm doing it and that's fine. Not the most profitable farmer in the parish here either!

yep most fed a lot last year bar 2 stocked low enough. Would say the group av was 1t at least. Then some didn’t get the output to cover the cost of it. Double edged sword
On the analysis I saw feed and fert accounted for only 9 % of the difference in costs between top and bottom.the message I got from the whole exercise was its the stuff like labour,contractor,farm services/maintenance bills,machinery costs and purchasing,land costs and the like we have to watch now.the most of us are making good use of grass and since quotas have gone while ration feeding may not leave a big margin it dosent have a massive effect on overall farm profitability as you have extra milk to cover some of the cost.anything where the outside economy interfaces with the farm economy is where we are starting to feel it big time

The cost of running fragmented farms is going through the roof. Contractor bills are higher than feed bills on a lot of farms. Only way to reduce contractor bills is too invest savage money in machinery and at the end of the day it will probably cost the same.
re figures from the ‘top’ farmers. Was at an open day a few years ago on a farm I had previously bought some in-calf late calvers. We were all given a handout detailing the host farmers breeding details. Something like 1% empty and 94% 6 week in calf rate. So the 6% of the cows he would be selling would number roughly 9. Everyone gobsmacked and saying how he must be doing everything right. Same farmer rang me 2 months later to see if I wanted to buy any late calvers or empties. I asked how many he had and he said 25!!🤔🤔

Aax calves in ardee last week born Christmas eve making 305, you should have gotten more tbh . It's a sellers market and you'd the cost of tb testing them.
not giving out but its still a great price compared to other years. hopefully a good market for calves when big numbers come out

Travel would be little more than 20 here and never eat there. Never wait to see calves sold. Take a lot number and watch online.

Lad brings to mart and factory to me. 10 for calves. 30 for cows.
😅😅😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣🤣was a lad 15 miles from me farmer of the year individual (really nice lad) year he won it he sold 40 empty cows 20 culls and bought in 45 heifers. thats all out of a 150 cow herd ......... and no he didn't get good money for what he sold

Mart is 5 minutes away here , rarely go. If I do go I drop them off come home and go back to sell

Straw is costing me about 1 euro per calf per week
add in microbes and it’s costing about 140 euro per calf to get to 90kgs weight
yeah my protein dropped from 3.88 to 3.69 during the week
Back up to 3.86 this evening
Id be happy with 3.69
