Following on from main thread in Current Affairs about Tubs in general (now closed and mod suggestion that Entertainment category is more suitable).
Indeed, entertainment in certain respects is what Tubs has provided, albeit perhaps in a way not intended. And still awaiting 150k payback to the licence fee holder.
And of course, his new career in Virgin Radio which is imminent.

Kathryn Thomas wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but calling her a gent is a bit OTT
In fairness Terry was a pro who actually wanted to go to England because he was ambitious and knew what he had to do to become a success there.
Tubs is only in the UK because of some pesky auditors who rumbled his cozy little deal for secret salary top-ups. He was always content to be a big fish in small pond. The fact that he's doing this Irish centric show from London is truly baffling, indeed the only way it makes sense is if you assume he's just trying to stay employable and relevant in Irish media with a view to a return in short order.
Yep, for all his talk of "senior hurling," he's far more comfortable in the minors.
Minors?
More Junior C team.
At last a pic with no pointing. But still, no ryan, not believing you.
Probably the middle class equivalent of calling himself a full time mad bastard.
Or just typical man-child behaviour.
The kind of guy you'd avoid cos of forced bantz.

I was in Dublin to record a couple of episodes of The Bookshelf which has happily signed up with Eason for a third season. I won’t say who I interviewed but it all went exceptionally well. One was an entrepreneur who is making waves internationally with her self-made business. The other is an author (whose book I came late to) whose extraordinary story has led her to heights she never imagined she could ever reach. I was buzzing with excitement and inspiration afterwards, we’re off to a great start!

He got pretty good numbers for a couple of his podcasts, mainly down to Simon Harris and Brian O’Driscoll. Most of his others have averaged from less than a thousand, to two thousand. Pretty atrocious figures considering how much effort they've put into promoting it. Is still massively focused on an Irish audience.
Still using the same old lines, now multiple times on the same week for the same thing:
“I felt some sympathy for the esteemed photographer, Louise Samuelsen who had to put up with two messers at the back of the class but she was great and the photos looked pretty good by the end of the session.”
The end of the piece reads a little weirdly….its almost like he’s unaware that she’s been on radio and tv for over 25 years:
“Kathryn’s breakfast show starts next week and the word about the place is that she’s a natural fit. I wish her all the success in the radio world.”
That’s it. It just ends there rather abruptly.
On another note, the title of this column needs to changed from “London Diary” too as it rarely if ever has anything to do with London. It should be renamed to “Ryan’s Week” or “Tubridy’s Tidings” (although that is likely too literary a phrase for the self-proclaimed reader - I should probably copyright that one to avoid its unauthorised usage as it’s actually quite good) to reflect the content. The piece this week is credited as being written by Ryan after what I assume was “a clerical error” last week. Intriguingly, there’s a feature about Kathryn Thomas linked in the middle of the London Diary, and a different one at the end of it. Delicious reads both no doubt if one was so inclined.
Apparently there's more, maybe someone at evoke.ie wanted to spare people (my apologies).
Same old w*** alright "an eclectic week". I'm sure Tubridy was never a messer in class, far too suck-up and afraid for it. Probably she was just engaging in a bit of friendly chat with someone she'll have to work with, but I guess we don't know, maybe they really were so palsy as Tubridy seems intent on making out everyone is with him.
"I've always been very fond of Kathrine because she doesn't take herself too seriously" - lol, what kind of a statement is that? That's the first thing that comes to mind for him? This isn't a comedian he's talking about, I'm sure she is trying hard to be taken seriously. What does it mean?! And that's the reason he's always been very fond of her?
Then he says the photos "looked pretty good by the end of the session" - lol what in the world? "pretty good"? That's the best he could do?
After all his f—-ing hyperbole and over-the-top positive words for everything else: "it all went exceptionally well", "buzzing with excitement and inspiration", "extraordinary story led her to heights she could never imagine she'd reach" - and the best he can manage for the photos at the end is they looked "pretty good by the end of the session". Commenting on a lady's appearance it better be good… if he didn't like how they turned out he could have just left it, otherwise he should say stunning or wonderful or spectacular - not "pretty good".
Could this all be some big elaborate joke Tubridy reveals by the end of it? Some experiment that he wanted to do to see how people would react?
Enough - I'm exhausted after just the first part.
Great to see he’s still as big a fan of the freebie/junket as ever - repaying Netflix in kind with this article and “free” exposure.
Quite why Netflix Ireland would be inviting people to a Netflix UK event is another question of course. With the costs of flights and hotels for the Irish journalists he’s mentioned above it would have been considerably easier and cheaper to host an identical event in Dublin. Very strange…..obviously Netflix have tonnes of cash to throw around the place but still…..waste not, want not.
Someone in the industry told me a few years ago that the “stars” of RTÉ/Today FM etc. get free Netflix/Sky etc. in exchange for the odd mention here and there. Matt Cooper for example did a big feature on Sky Glass when it launched in Ireland and did to be fair say he was gifted the tv and a subscription from Sky Ireland, but I do wonder how many people get these freebies?
I am very puzzled for years he droned on about being Nerd, and proud to be a Nerd. Now all of a sudden he has become the messer at the back of the class. Tubs make your mind up and who are you trying to please now.
He sounds like a teenager, trying to fit into a social group, trying to please everyone.
Kathryn Thomas stood in for him on numerous occasions when he was off from his Radio One show. Now he's acting like she's some kind of newbie, who's on trial. She's was presenting a tv programme when he was starting out as a reporter doing vox pops. Very odd comments that come across as being passive aggressive. He tries to portray himself as a nice person but can't help from letting the snarky, snide side out.
Also he attends a play but he doesn't actually tell us anything about it. He seems obsessed with celebrities and money. Only thing that he can mention is Hollywood stars, Hollywood movies and doing big business. So he wouldn't attend a play in a small theatre with trained actors. In his mind, the only things that validate the play are Hollywood actors and doing big business. An incredibly superficial view of the world.
Do you think the photo albums he gave as gifts only contained pictures of him?
Well be the hokey….my neighbour was in this morning for coffee and lo and behold it turns out she’s a (minor) fan of The Toyman. He came up briefly in our chat (there were 3 of us) but she did say she listens to him on occasion when working from home.
What was intriguing however was she told a story from last week where Ryan talked about photographs and printing them etc. and she thought about it because she hasn’t any physical photographs in her house……but……according to her when he told the story on radio it was about his mother doing this, and not him. It seems he’s employing some creative licence as it were when retelling his stories, not for the first time of course.
I’m sure this could be verified by listening back but I’m not going to subject myself to that. Not betraying my bias I did ask her what she got from the programme, and she replied that it was “harmless”, which I thought was an unusual descriptor. She asked what do I listen to when wfh. I usually listen to calming instrumental music (lots of piano based stuff, be it classical or modern) when I need to concentrate, or a podcast I can half listen to if I’m doing more mundane stuff like preparing a presentation or replying to regular emails.
I asked her were there ever any English callers to the show, and she said “no”. She then paused and said “there might be a caller from England, but they’re always Irish”. She did also mention that she wouldn’t have thought Ryan would like some of the music he’s playing. I explained to her that he wouldn’t be in charge of the playlist (a new term to her) and that a music programmer would select these for the show. I felt I had burst a bubble of sorts by relaying this, she’d likely have a heart attack were I to express my deeper thoughts on the man, so we moved on to another topic. An insightful and intriguing chat nonetheless.
Great he’s working the bank holiday al the same.
Jeez, take my suggestion and run with it without credit why don’t you? 🤷♂️
TYFYS
Not a bank holiday in the UK.
I don't think he'd get taskmaster, he might get the end of year taskmaster but not the main show, and he even does have a chance to get the end of year taskmaster.
Can you listen back to q102, I see they have a new logo
Andrea Corr also, actually Andrea Corr has far more staying power than any of the other guests he has had that have high numbers on YouTube. In many ways you might find the "bigger" names gaining in a few months time for no real reason.
This is a month where they have published no new episodes of the series, so it will be interesting to see how the next 13 or so do. And it would be nice to see other stats.
His own interview with Mark Moriarty had 1125 since the beginning of the year, this compares to Andrea's 1,346

The same colours as those of the Ukraine, I do hope he won’t put his foot in it again with I’ll-advised attempts at humour involving Chicken Kievs

“this is different because they look like us” type comments which rightly attracted criticism at the time. In my opinion both were rather bizarre and underline his detachment from his regular people would view war or an invasion, and an inability to grasp the seriousness of matter at hand.
Personally looking forward to him weighing in on Trump's idea to re-develop Gaza and build some exceptional beach front properties. Surely long time buddy and Late Late Show stalwart Dermot Bannon, could get in on some of that action.
Ryan added that a sweaty-palmed producer is a good sign, as it means they care. "It's exciting, it's good and the love from the listeners has been great. I think it's good to get going. The last couple of weeks have been preparing and doing all of that but now we are on, we are here and we're ready."
Ryan chimed in: "Some things never change, maybe the venue changes but the show goes on..."he said, before being cut off by Dreams by Fleetwood Mac.
Kathryn added "’I'm not a newbie to radio having done loads of radio work for RTÉ."

Interesting how she said that to Tubridy. That was what I said that he was portraying her as. She must be reading the thread😀 There was an edge to their conversation. Sounded like they really dislike one another. All fake of course. Seemed like she was annoyed at his behaviour and how he damaged RTE's reputation.
I'm really confused as to why she's taken this gig. Does she actually live in London?
It's Dublin Q102 she's working for.
It will all make sense in time.
Oh, ok. Makes sense.
Considering he isn't arsed with his UK audience I don't understand why he hasn't just moved back to Q102 here. The Paddy Power advertising money probably helps but that's up in the next month or two if I'm not mistaken.
