Rejoice, spring has arrived!
February may theoretically be Spring but I find it a most depressing month, it can be bitterly cold, damp, dull. There is no way we can all go around shouting "it's Spring" when the weather doesn't agree.
That's what Spring means to most of us, slightly warmer weather, slightly more sunshine, more flowers, a feeling in the air. Its not today where I am!
I went to school in the 60s and 70s, and was taught the same!
I went to school in the 90's/early 00's we were always told February was Spring.
I've had this discussion with different people and they were told the same.
Always makes me think of this song by, the wonderful, Tom Lehrer about spring and pigeons.
It's spring.
You can blow those meteorological seasons right out your arse.
I don't believe in the seasons, especially meteorological seasons. The concept is just a scam by Big Weather, Big Fashion and Big Sport to control us.
🤪
Astronomical Spring starts on 21st March.
This date also marks the end of the 'Winter Season' of Mountaineering (in the Northern Hemisphere).
Spring or not, it feels and looks like it might snow!
It's the start of traditional / gaelic spring.
I always thought Feb was the start of spring.
Children growing up in the 80s were always taught Spring started in February but I guess Met Eireann changed that in latter years ….. 😊
Meteorological seasons are instead based on the annual temperature cycle and measure the meteorological state, as well as coinciding with the calendar to determine a clear transition between the seasons.
The meteorological seasons consist of splitting the seasons into four periods made up of three months each. These seasons are split to coincide with our Gregorian calendar, making it easier for meteorological observing and forecasting to compare seasonal and monthly statistics. By the meteorological calendar, spring will always start on 1 March; ending on 31 May.
The seasons are defined as spring (March, April, May), summer (June, July, August), autumn (September, October, November) and winter (December, January, February).
It’s not.
sorry to break your bubble, but February is a winter month
