Rejoice, spring has arrived!
sorry to break your bubble, but February is a winter month
It’s not.
Meteorological seasons are instead based on the annual temperature cycle and measure the meteorological state, as well as coinciding with the calendar to determine a clear transition between the seasons.
The meteorological seasons consist of splitting the seasons into four periods made up of three months each. These seasons are split to coincide with our Gregorian calendar, making it easier for meteorological observing and forecasting to compare seasonal and monthly statistics. By the meteorological calendar, spring will always start on 1 March; ending on 31 May.
The seasons are defined as spring (March, April, May), summer (June, July, August), autumn (September, October, November) and winter (December, January, February).
Children growing up in the 80s were always taught Spring started in February but I guess Met Eireann changed that in latter years ….. 😊
I always thought Feb was the start of spring.
It's the start of traditional / gaelic spring.
Spring or not, it feels and looks like it might snow!
Astronomical Spring starts on 21st March.
This date also marks the end of the 'Winter Season' of Mountaineering (in the Northern Hemisphere).
I don't believe in the seasons, especially meteorological seasons. The concept is just a scam by Big Weather, Big Fashion and Big Sport to control us.
🤪
It's spring.
You can blow those meteorological seasons right out your arse.
Always makes me think of this song by, the wonderful, Tom Lehrer about spring and pigeons.
I went to school in the 90's/early 00's we were always told February was Spring.
I've had this discussion with different people and they were told the same.
I went to school in the 60s and 70s, and was taught the same!
February may theoretically be Spring but I find it a most depressing month, it can be bitterly cold, damp, dull. There is no way we can all go around shouting "it's Spring" when the weather doesn't agree.
That's what Spring means to most of us, slightly warmer weather, slightly more sunshine, more flowers, a feeling in the air. Its not today where I am!
Thats it exactly. It's spring when it looks and feels like spring. Today… well today looks like a wet, grey cold day in Feburary. Like February usually looks. I remember getting snow on St Patricks Day once. Spring will arrive when it decides to.
February is Spring, Spring has sprung and cannot be unsprung.
Spring can be unsprung. All we need are 4 Leprecauns.
I really don't mind what months meteorology uses. I can see some growth beginning in the garden. That makes me happy.
Sunset has shifted over an hour later than the earliest sunset in December. On a clear day it's not totally dark leaving work at 5. That also makes me happy.
The longer days help.
I always reckon spring has spronged when flowers reappear 😁
It's winter and it is freezing.
Feb is not a spring month. Come back in March.
Spring is the last week in April. Summer is that week when the kids are doing exams. The rest is winter.
No we weren't.
Spring was always March, April, May. Maybe down the country the kids were told that it started in February or November or whatever.
Go stand outside for a few hours without your winter clothing on and see if it's a "Spring" day. 😉
Im just back from the shop. Wore my rain resistant fleece and it's still feicin cold.
Exactly…and there's feck all growing too.
Spring ain't here yet.
In fact February is actually the coldest month in this country usually.
Born in 85, dub through and through. Spring was February according to my teachers.
Anyway meteorological spring is March.
Pagan/Celtic spring is February.
I couldn't care less what a load of Pagans thought donkey's years ago. They were lads who sacrificed people so a harvest might go well. 😄 In the real world the month February is a winter month as evidenced by the temperature of it.
When the weather picks up and things start blossoming again in a visible way, then you'll know it's Spring. That'll be in March.
We should all be thankful that Feb is the shortest month.
Stereo-typically the smart kid in the class is the teachers pet. Not in my case.
Teacher: Take out your Irish books and we will correct the irish homework.
Me: I thought you said we would be doing Geography today and for us to bring in our geography books?
Teacher: You know what Thought did? Thought stuck a feather in the ground and thought a chicken would grow.
Me: So you dont support the concept of individual thought. Or experimentation.
Me under my breathe: And clearly you are getting alzheimers because you did tell us we would be doing geography today.
My teachers hated me. My point? Teachers are infallible.
You know what Thought did? He thought it was spring, went out in his t-shirt and shorts to go pick some daffodils, he is now being treated for hypothermia.
U ok hun??
There's a daffodil about to burst into bloom in my back garden, that's the first sign of spring coming for me 🤗
Notwithstanding the fact that we're more likely to face a snow event than ditch the thermals in the next month.
Also, ne'er cast a clout till May is out is still good advice!
Early February is not Spring in my books. Still very much winter.
Late Feb/early March is when Spring really begins, albeit slowly...
