Cupra announced their first electric SUV today, the Tavascan.
The article says it's an ID4 but definitely had more an ID5 coupe look with the sloping roofline.
https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121694224#Comment_121694224Actually no the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportages were around long before the VW Tiguan.
People change, it’s allowed. Enjoy the new car!
It's all about the styling and something different on the road. The ID.5 is actually currently cheaper if you're looking for a coupe SUV. I think the Skoda is probably the best on the MEB platform so either the Elroq or the New (Face-lift) Enyaq
Personally I much prefer the styling of the Tavascan. I've had it 10 days now and the spice thing hadn't been an issue. Plenty of storage space abd and the fact the phone charging pad it underneath it is probably a good thing to limit distractions.
There's the usual haptic buttons, front rear window button gripes but you get use to it and you've been living with the Born so you know what you're getting. As it's Chinese made, I actually think it's better built strangely enough. The light selection panel over my right knee seems "clickier", not that you'll be clicking it once it's set to auto.
Is it the Endurance rwd model you had on test? Everything from the summer was VZ, which I guess is to be expected as the absolute flagship one. But styling seems to be the exact same just different motor setup.
Looking forward to your video, if it's not finished filming yet can I ask you get a decent bit in about the ambient lighting? And the outside lighting. Plenty of darkness here these days to do it. All press release ones very in sunny summer Spain and no night time driving, I assume you all only had a small daytime slot for them. Saw some tiktok videos of the lighting it looked great. I'm a sucker for something shiny and flashy.
I can't see many VZ selling here, it was a big stretch for me to pay the extra for Endurance 6 over the 4, but theres a good few 'nice to haves' that swung it for me, wheels, better interior ambient lights, glass roof, interior trim, exterior colour not being an extra so in the end just about justified it. Coming from a basic enough mid spec etron with no options ticked and some things criminally omitted from it for the price, my half the price born has more features that I like and use every day, I just wanted the bells and whistles and wow factor this time.
I just hope I picked the right colour! Silver white, never had a light coloured car before but I did prefer it to the desert and the blue, I just didn't see it in grey but I think I'll be happy. Contrasts lovely with the black and dark grey accents on the exterior grille/side skirts/mirrors, pillars, roof etc...
I get what you mean about the enyaq in your other post above, it's a very classy interior. A workmate is taking delivery of his one next week and we joked that we'd share the enyaq and the tavascan as we couldn't really choose between the 2. Skoda is classier I feel and the tavascan is flashier but both are preferable to the id4/5 in our opinions, but I understand why people stick with vw, we have 3 in the work fleet and cant fault them.
Yep i like that the phone will be out of view but with android auto voice WhatsApp I am pretty good at leaving it alone while driving anyway. I'm used to the silly buttons now so shouldn't be an issue, don't give them a 2nd thought anymore. Especially the rear windows, they only get opened as a test to make sure the motors are still working!
11 mins in she covers night driving.
Thanks Mark, I played that on the TV. The lights look well
Living with a CUPRA Tavascan for 1,000km
Looks like the 3500 grant matching discount from Cupra is gone for the moment as expected, a lot of the done deal ads prices changed upwards. A handful still advertised old price but may just be a case of not updating the ads.
yep, officially 31st Dec. They may bring it back but I’d say depends on how initial orders went. They may not need to.
Its gone from the Born now too. They had different offers on their phev stuff but I haven't been keeping track of them.
I talked to a few dealers because I was trying to see it in different colours and specs and they all pretty much said there was a shortage, as soon as I paid my deposit the dealer I bought from had to make a very urgent call to secure the one I wanted. Called me back at 7 in the evening to confirm I got it.
It'll probably drop in price over time anyway
CUPRA have reintroduced the booster offer I'm being told until the end of January
€3500 off the Tavascan
€2000 off the Born
I said they would!
It's on their website now
Same bulls**t PCP offer still there too
Is 3.9% b*sh1t?
Rather the high GFMV and low monthlies making it an unrealistic proposition in a still somewhat unstable market.
New review out by Irishtimes.com on the Tavascan. Neil Briscoe - gave it an OK review - the gist is that it is a good car but it is the same as other brand SUVs and not sporty enough to stand out.
Once its big, quick, comfortable and looks good I am happy! Other reviewers did say it was sporty so its pretty subjective. I am not expecting it to be far removed from its siblings to be honest.
On a positive note, I believe mine landed in the country last night.
Throw a few pics up if you don't mind. Interested in seeing real world pictures of these. Not mad on the front end from what I remember but the real world photos tend to look better than the press ones.
There's some i took. First one is my car i think, took it yesterday evening.
The others are from showroom car in December, there's just 2 models and no other options list apart from a winter heat pump pack. So mine will be identical to all those pictures.
I'll get a few pics alongside the Born when I get my hands on it properly!
Is the second pic the same colour car? Looks greyish compared to the white of the other pics?
Yeah same colour. It's called silverwhite, or whitesilver, can't remember which. It's not a brilliant white or anything
That White Silver is pretty sweet. A nicer colour for this body shape than the rather dull Tavascan Blue doing the rounds.
It was the first one I saw and I loved it. Wouldn't normally go for it but liked it in person. There's only 4 colours available in total.
I drove around to 2 other dealerships and saw the other colours in person, really wanted to see the blue as I have a blue cupra born and like the colour. Wasn't mad about it. My 2nd choice would have been the dark grey but I've always had dark cars and wanted a change.
After that the blue and desert/sandy colour, I'd be happy to buy either as a used car but since I had a choice I went for white silver
Interestingly the blue isn't the same as the 2023 Born, which was a very rich blue. On the Tavascan it's darker, more muted and dare I say it….plain.
The Born Aurora blue is a lot nicer, I picked it in a hearbeat but didnt with the Tavascan blue. I remember watching Born videos in 2022 they raved about the colour, I didnt see the colour mentioned much in the Tavascan videos.
Saw a Tavascan in Bray earlier, straight out of the box going by the reg plate. Looked fantastic. Anyone here?
No but I touched my actual car today, it arrived in dealership this morning. I reckon Wednesday I'll have it. What colour was the one in Bray?
Thats my one, low light levels so you can't really see the copper in the wheels but I like them.
The CUPRA lettering on the back also hard to make out on the photos unless you zoom in so maybe it doesn't photograph that well. I have seen the CUPRA lettering in black on the boot and I think it looks much better against the white, more of a contrast so I may get that changed.
