It would be good to see Ulster and croke park to come up and say what the casement cost saving are without having to go back for planning

It would definitely be interesting to see the breakdown and what the reduced spec looks like. Still a mystery how it could be reduced so much without major changes.
Good to see the Ulster council reaffirming it's commitment to the project.
The BBC has reported that the revised cost of developing the stadium is now £270 million, leaving a funding shortfall of about £150 million.
These are still scandalous sums of money for a stadium for an amateur sporting organisation. To think there is apparently £120m committed yet that isn't even half the amount required. More than double the cost of PUC which is a bit of a white elephant despite hosting more large events than Casement possibly could. They should be told to fck off and come back with a serious proposal.
When you look at the current market its not really.
St conleiths got a 3k stand, floodlights and some pitchworks which came in at just over 18 million.
Dalymount alldo not just a soccer stadium as DCC will have offices there are saying it will cost 40 million.
On a good day it will be just over 50 million on reality and on the stadium side of things are getting two stands which will hold together about 7k and two very small terraces, a new pitch and floodlights.
They want £250m of taxpayers money to build a stadium for which there is no actual demand, that is scandalous. They money they want for Casement is the same as the total Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund allocations which has funded dozens of projects. For comparison, St Conleth's got €6m and Dalymount €24.7m.
Closing the book on the utterly deluded talk about Páirc Uí Chaoimh hosting matches, the EURO 2028 games which were to be played in Belfast will be divided out among the other stadia, with no new host grounds to be chosen.
FAI confirm back-door option to qualify for Euro 2028 but GAA venues are ruled out as host venues | Irish Independent
I wasnt commenting on the rights or wrongs of the funding sources but just pointing out the current costs in building a stadium at the moment.
How are Kerry GAA getting 75million for a stadium redevelopment ?
Are they getting it ?
With the election results it's in the bag now. I don't see it being used too often but wish they they would design something better. Connacht rugby are doing their development for 30 million
Is a politician asking for it ?
Has anyone offered it ?
Micheál Martin was credited in the tweet I saw.
Sounds like bollix.
Like all tweets these days.
Since the Healy Raes aren't in the picture for government votes, I don't see how Fitzgerald Stadium would be even be in the votes-for-funding picture at the moment. Are Independents from Galway demanding Fitzgerald be upgraded as part of a vote pact….?
Disregarding the other practical holes in the story like the idea of the government openly bypassing the LSSIF and announcing funding way above and beyond anything any stadium outside the Aviva has ever gotten.
Does it even have planning permission?
We might have some direction on Casement in January.

Paric Tailteann now looking at a Q4 Start

That's an unusual looking stand, I'd imagine if they're trying to keep costs down they would go with a cooker cutter cantilever stand.Theyre looking at a 5k capacity so something similar to Healy Park for example or a bigger version of the new stand in Kildare.
Either way,you dont get much for 20m these days, the longer they leave it the more expensive it gets.
The image has a caption calling it an initial drawing so I wouldn't place too much emphasis on it. The aisle widths between seats also look excessive. It will probably end up as a cookie cutter design.
If they want to save money they should just get the design of the main stands in tullamore,Omagh or even the new louth stadium
As per your comment about pricing you are fully right.
Newbridge was 3k with stand,Floodlights and pitch extended @ 17 million
tallaght upgrades 2k stand with other works @ 11 million.
New Dalymount is only 2 no. 3k stands with very small terraces will be over 50 million ( they also will be getting a libary for DCC but)
The GAA stadium committe really needs to drive all county level infastructure.
It's amazing how little you can get done with a few million nowadays. Inflation has really bitten hard but this is the reality county boards are dealing with now.
It's a thing that I notice in discussions about GAA ground development; people decided that prices from 2005 are still the going rate and reckon you can still build a full length GAA stand with dressing rooms for €2.5 Million.
When it's pointed out that even relatively limited projects are 10s of millions of euro these days, they insist it's just bad management by the county board or consultants bleeding them for money.
Its not just GAA development. My colleague did a cost plan for government agency and the Pricincpal officer refused to accept the findings and said in 2011 we built this for xx
Storm Eowyn has converted Connacht Airdome into an outdoor facility.
very dry, unlike the current weather
How long will it take them to fix that? From an outside observer, thought it was a great idea. Reminded me of something the Saudis would build. Looked great.
Fitzgerald Park in Kilmallock Limerick which is traditionally Limerick's second ground for hurling had a roof collapse today too.
I know when the original Hogan stand was replaced in Croke Park it ended up in PnG Limerick but I was always told that it then ended up in Kilmallock for a while but can't find anything to back this possible urban legend.
The current ground does have a load of the old multicoloured PuC seats in the main stand.
It was a good idea and a great facility heavily used but the climate isn't playing ball. I'd like to see it replaced but it will need a higher spec or else the same thing will happen again.
Surely someone has designed a version with an extreme weather failsafe. It can't be that these things are just a no go for any part of the world that gets a storm.
Hopefully there is, because to do it with a conventional steel or concrete structure and cover such a big area would be an astronomical cost.
i see Antrim are the latest Newbridge or No where. They say they want to play at Corrigan Park for Championship. They also say they wont play outside of the county. Could Ulster GAA take a hit and hire ravenhill for Antrim to play?
it would be very tight for a pitch but the grass area is 130 Meters end to end so it could on paper work.
