That's a very saucy price for what's in effect a software option being switched on.
I paid €50,200 12 months ago for the exact same spec in black of what they're charging €66,500 for there, managed to get the acceleration boost for free (I wouldn't pay them for it but would miss it if it was gone now).
Was weighing my options up and was happy with the Tesla at the price I paid but other options like the EV6 had a large price drop later on in the year which may have swayed me, the BYD Sea Lion 07 should be out in Ireland this year too. Definitely think I'd be looking at something else for the price they're charging now. Also would have been happy with a 3 year old PHEV but the price of used cars was still fúcking mental last January.
€1800 here.
I paid that for an exhaust for my Evo5 years ago. Its akan to a remap, only it wont affect your warranty like an ICE car.
I remember that. I think you got lucky with incorrect price drops at the time.
Still annoyed I forgot to use a referral link. Should have been €49,950 😡
😂😂
I had one ordered but they cancelled it.
The XPeng G6 will surely do well against the Model Y - it's also due here soon and looks well spec'd
It should. there’s only a few in that bracket.
Model Y
ID4
Enyak
Atto
Could maybe argue eNiro, Kona too.
Have to give it to the Chinese - they sure know how to do a ringer?
Except (from what I read) the capability is already there and they just switch it on. You wouldn't do a remap that easily.
Remap just plug and play too. You can actually buy them yourself and install at home nowadays, especially for BMW. Im sure other brands offer these too.
Polestar for example offer it for their dual motor cars too.
But Tesla isn't plug and play. It's flicking a switch. That's not the issue though, the price is. The Polestar upgrade is half the price.
Think I read somewhere the initial Model Y AWD was advertised as 5.0s 0-100 but in reality it did it in 4.4, so later on Tesla started software locking it to 5.0 and charging €1800 to get back the performance they took away. Fairly shítty practice tbh.
Half the price for flicking a switch but you only get half the power increase.
It is what it is. Another Tesla bash but hey.
The comments are... well... it puts a slant on sales potential.
Where did you read that?
High FUD potential there.
Capability of the cars will not have come as a surprise to Tesla and it is cost efficient to standardise the production process, building in capability in call ars that can be controlled by software. We have seen it before with heated steering wheels, where cars had this capability but functionality not turned on and where Tesla moved to make it accessible to all. Similar with acceleration, Tesla can reduce price of cars for a Standard set of functionality and maintain a very competitive position with sales and provide upgrades for those in the market prepared to pay, generating revenues. The alternative being to make full functionality available to all and increase price or keep price the same and lose revenues. I cant see anything wrong with this (clever marketing) …ii you want better performance you can get it instantly by clicking an option on your mobile app but there is a cost for it.
Hard to know what power increase Tesla gets, all I see is 0.5s improved acceleration. Exactly the same as the P2 - 4.7 to 4.2s. Can't find anything on bhp or torque, the P2 is +68bhp and +30Nm of torque.
VW done the same with their cruise control functions. You had to pay for them to turn it on.
Sure, its a way of keeping price lower so those who prioritise price get value and those who want more can elect to pay. Its immaterial whether the car has the capability or not. You can also get a Ryanair no frills price and for those who want priority boarding they pay! Marketing 101.
Since Reddit is used a lot in this thread, they are saying 50,000 orders in the first day and another site saying 100,000 orders in the first 10 days. The internet is wild, yet not one positve review of the car…….
Reddit had 1 billion orders for the cybertruck...
Like all companies relying on hype tesla do this in spades they're a wall street play not a car company, nor a tech company. The entire pyramid is for the street and hype.
yes. You’re right.
Mod Note: Stick to talking about the cars on the model threads please
unplugged performance wheels look great on it!
Turns it into a different car completely.. would they fit an older model Y ?? - picking mine up from Tesla tomorrow and would def be interested in getting these in if so.
I'd imagine they would. I don't think Tesla have changed any of the wheel patterns or offsets for any of the cars.
I'd fear the price though, especially coming from the UK with customs etc
So what I'd do is book them to fit them, drive over, get them fitted and drive home if possible or throw them in the back of the car (work out if its cost effective to do that obviously).

The wheels on the M3P would look super on the new Y.
Shades of the Lamborghini Ursus from those rims. Completely transform the look of the car.
