Your solution sounds particularly vindictive. He might be misguided but it takes courage to stand up for your convictions and he has that.

I've no dog in the fight, I believe both sides to be nonsense. But Enoch went about his issue all wrong, there was an opportunity to have a discussion around who's made up beliefs trumps who's however he went about it the wrong way.
Enoch blew his chance to take a more sensible approach a long time ago. He could and should have raised the issue in a more reasonable fashion. That would've opened up a different conversation. Because he couldn't control his temper, he has backed himself into a corner. I can see him spending the rest of his working life flitting between prison and standing outside that school gate.

The lack of social interaction would be the biggest issue for me. If a parent homeschooled 2 or 3 days a week it would be one thing, but when you're cutting the kid off from society it's not good.
It takes a village to raise a child and all that.
I have nephews- adn nieces-in-law in the US who were home-schooled. I'm not a fan of the process overall, but I have to say that this particular issue was addressed. At high school age the kid was home-schooled but went to the local high school to participate in extra-curricular activities — sport, gymnastics, drama, band. The school district facilitated and supported this (and I think was required by state law to do so). It meant the home-schooled kids did develop relationships outside the home with other people their own age, so they had a peer group and a friend group and, in due course, romantic partners. (It also meant they weren't denied whatever educational benefits their are of participating in team sports and group activities.)

I don't think it's a case of courage anymore with Enoch. It's more that he is terrified of going against the parents instructions at this stage. On the outside he looks resolute but inside he could be in turmoil. Is he the eldest? He must be under enormous pressure. He needs an off ramp but the mother won't let him have one. It's disgrace what they have done to their children.
I don't want to be second guessing a bunch of absolute horrible lunatics.
But once Burke is officially fired and no longer being paid his protest will evolve because it will have to. The cowardice the DPP hid behind to justify not charging him will no longer have a foothold.
The school will not be fully off the hook, because it will go to WRC - Labour - High Court.
I also imagine a case will be taken challenging the constitutionality of his 500+ days in the Joy.
I can also see a scenario where the communities patience evaporates and they deal with it themselves.

Trump getting a resounding applause from a preselected audience doesn't really say a lot. Also we're not in the US. 😉
I've no evidence of turmoil but it's my gut feeling. If the parents told him to end the protest I'm sure he'd drop it straight away. But they wouldn't listen to him if he went and said he wanted to end it. They have squeezed him between the law and their ultra rigid beliefs. It's a horrible place to be with your life and career prospects passing you by. His younger siblings on the same hopeless course.

It's quite amazing that those who have no knowledge of homeschooling and no experience of homeschooling are supremely confident of having identified this fatal flaw which apparently none of those experienced in home schooling are capable of managing.

Like most contentious social issues, (but more so than most for some reason), attitudes to gender difference are a pendulum. They started at one extreme - people with gender differences were mocked, attacked, abused, seen as outside of society etc. Then, over the past 20 years or so, the pendulum slowly swung, first to grudging acceptance, then through acceptance, to sympathy, to celebration, and, more recently, to fashionable, and to "misgender somebody and you lose your job/get jailed", which is likely the opposite side of the pendulum swing from where it started. I think the pendulum has reached its apogee, and will start to slowly swing back towards acceptance again (and hopefully no further back), and, rather than arresting or firing people, we can all try to get along together, accept one another's differences - whether that be around gender, or around staunch beliefs, and where somebody doesn't want to use a certain term, they don't have to, as long as we all respect each other.
I think there's been a lot of signs in the past year or so that society in general is moving away from what many see as, perhaps, a fairly extreme interpretation of social justice, and Enoch way well have to just wait it out until everything calms down a little, and he is not seen as a rebel that needs to be crushed, and instead as a lad that is maybe a little bit odd, and should be treated with a bit of understanding.

He made an irrational, unjustifiable decision that would make it impossible to continue in that job.
Nothing else matters here, and no changes that you want will fix what Enoch actually did.
(additionally - he was never going to be in any situation where he would work with the student anyway; so his protest was for grandstanding purposes. He was never going to have to address the student. He also didn't care the first time the same request was made for another student he would never teach, presumably because Mammy wasn't aware and hadn't told him what to do)

If you continuously refuse/fail to do them you'll be disciplined/reprimanded and ultimately let go if you continue.
Enoch didn't even get that far. He attacked his boss at a social event over the work related issue and skipped all the above and went straight to 'let go'.
Absolutely not. The law was not involved until he verbally attacked the teacher in public. Persistent attempts by some here to link it just won't wash. He didn't break any law when he didn't want to call the student by their pronoun. He was not arrested until he confronted the teacher outside school.
He wasn't arrested for that either, but he was sacked.
