So then we manage and regulate home schooling, rather than throwing out an entire eco system because of one wierdo family.
Do any of those with their Pavlovian cliché response about social engagement actual know any family that have done home schooling?
Of course he is turning up. Why do you think he wouldn't?
John Oliver covered home schooling in the USA. I was going to say it's shocking stuff but it isn't really if you try to imagine the sort of Americans who might want to remove their kids from schools. Hint: There are red baseball caps and bibles in many of their homes and they vehemently oppose any sort of regulations.
Funniest man in Ireland, Go on Enoch!
which is a million miles away from how home schooling works in Ireland for 99% of those involved.
"Pavlovian cliche response". No it's just called having an opinion. Other countries have banned it and I can see why. So much more beneficial for developing kids to be with their peers. At a stretch maybe 1 or 2 days at home. But 5 days sorry no.
Do you know any families who have done home schooling? Do you have the slightest clue about how it actually works?
I don't see any argument for home schooling being good for the child. Yes, they might end up with better academics. They might end up doing stuff they wouldn't do in a normal school. They might end up getting religious education for their specific religion that they wouldn't get in a normal school. But you need to engage with society on a wider scale, you should go to a school. It protects the child from undue pressure or indoctrination from the parents.
Do you think that it's vaguely possible that parents who do home schooling are already aware of everything that you say and take appropriate action?
Yes I do but even if 95% of parents are implementing it correctly the other 5% abusing the situation would make it intolerable. What that school has gone through should never happen again.
You're blaming home schooling for what happened at WH?
You might as well blame Toyota and ban Toyotas because the Burke family car is a Toyota.
Just change the law so long term contempt of court carries a severe sentence.
No. You're trying to make it a black and white case of home schooling caused it or didn't cause it. I'm saying it contributed. They were only hearing their parents voice with any opposing views cut out. Their exposure to interacting with others and opportunities to socialise with other kids was eliminated. The parents have a total hold on them and their inability to understand or work with people outside the home may be permanent.
I'd imagine that a lot of home schooling in the US is done to avoid the kids being shot to death in a classroom.
It’s not back and white but in fairness now you left out a chunk of life experience opportunity in that were allowed and indeed facilitated go to University so it wasn’t a complete social blackout. And full disclosure I do hate what the Burke’s are doing and any defence and whataboutery around them and their activities.
So your problem is with how home schooling was done in one house and your solution is to ban home schooling?
It's ridiculous, and based around ignorance of how home schooling works.
University is a great life and learning experience for most people but we all saw the carry on in NUIG. I fear the college experience came too late which is a great shame. It would be interesting to know if they shared a house with other students or spent their full term in digs or away from students. Their time theremay have been purely academic.
I think there is a legal requirement that children (up to 16 is it? Not sure) need to go to school and I fundamentally don't agree that homeschooling should be an allowable alternative to going to an actual school. Unless there is a tangible reason for it that I am missing? I don't agree with it as things stand.
Maybe you'd like to educate yourself (at home or elsewhere) about home schooling in Ireland before deciding?
Oh look, there's answers on the home page to the tired clichéd questions about legality and socialisation.
I doubt that.
It's enshrined in the constitution that the family are the primary educator.
What the law probably states is you have to provide an education and prove you are.
But to forbid home schooling would be unconstitutional.
Some kids are little sociopaths in school. Homeschooling is not the problem here.
He didn't agree with a new policy in work that goes against some religious belief that he has, he lost his job over it and is now in an everlasting protest loop.
It wasn't a new policy. It's policy that existed and determined by law.
He lost his job because he accosted his boss in public in front of kids and staff.
As I see it there are 3 options:
1: Jail him forever - can't do this, you can't jail someone indefinately for protesting 2: Give him is job back - can't do this, he's gone to far to ever be employed by anyone ever again 3: Close the school or rebrand it or have it under new management (something to remove the thing he's protesting about) - messy but doable. He'll have nothing to protest against, and he'll go away.
Close the school? Ah no, primarily because that would be absolute lunacy.
New Management? Boards of management change all the time, the principal in charge now is not the principal he accosted.
What Burke is doing is delaying the inevitable. The rubber stamping of his sacking.
As far as anyone is aware their is nothing stopping the Appeals Board from making that decision now.
Once that is done, the next time he shows up at the school he is processed through the criminal system, which should have happened 2 years ago.
Yet for some strange reason he's still getting a salary… it's weird.
In relation to criminal activity, yer wan protested outside google for a long time and was never arrested I don't think she was ever ciminally charged for it either.
The Burkes are religious zealots, it's impossible to negotiate with them. They feel they're doing gods work and that they know best and everyone elses argument/opinion is completely 100% ignorable.
I genuinely believe the school will close at some point in the future if this keeps up.
Big difference between someone protesting on a public footpath outside an office building compared to an hinged creep actively prowling around and inside school buildings which contain literal children.
Not a hope. It opened in 1761 it survived far more than this absolute cretin.
Enoch still living rent free I see 😂😂
The school of woke will soon be permanently closing its doors, you can feel the walls crumbling 🥳

Doubt you'd think it funny if it was your kids' school this weirdo and his weirdo followers (at least one convicted violent offender among them) were hanging around.
why, he’s been in jail for 500 days, that didn’t achieve anything.
It's psychologically very different. He can leave whenever and it almost day to day for him While if one were to say "cop on or we'll see you in five". Well that's IMHO very different.
Would it really? Backing down or saying sorry don't exist in the Burke world. We've since seen Simeon and Sean go to prison even though that could've been easily avoided. Enoch could've tried doing something different once he got out of Mountjoy the first time but he didn't. His working life as he knows it is over, so all he has left is this pointless protest. Maybe he's happy with that state of affairs. After all, he's doing god's work and is clocking up the credits for when he finally goes to the Pearly Gates. Let's not forget Enoch and his family are so dedicated to doing God's work, they used to make day trips to Dublin to stand outside the Dáil for hours on end. They're not wired like the rest of us.
