New Thread to continue discussion for General Premier League. Old thread closed.
The IFAB clarified this a while back - It's one of the few black and white rules around handball offenses. Thats worldwide BTW
Various changes and clarifications to the Laws of the Game were agreed at the AGM, with a particular focus on Law 12 – Fouls and Misconduct. As the interpretation of handball incidents has not always been consistent due to incorrect applications of the Law, the members confirmed that not every touch of a player’s hand/arm with the ball is an offence. In terms of the criterion of the hand/arm making a player’s body “unnaturally bigger”, it was confirmed that referees should continue to use their judgment in determining the validity of the hand/arm’s position in relation to the player’s movement in that specific situation. Following this clarification, it is a handball offence if a player: deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball; touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised; orscores in the opponents’ goal: -directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper; or -immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental. Accidental handball that leads to a team-mate scoring a goal or having a goal-scoring opportunity will no longer be considered an offence.

The FA incorporated it in their own code in Law 12
For the purposes of determining handball offences, the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit. Not every touch of a player’s hand/arm with the ball is an offence. It is an offence if a player: deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalisedscores in the opponents' goal: directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental
We need to get over the whole ruling around this. It was 100% valid reasoning to disallow the goal.
Of more concern is the some out there (not here) who actually still think it didn't hit his arm.
I mean………what the hell is that about ?
Yeah, if you've been watching games all season this rule change has been explained numerous times.
It’s bizarre to think you were ever allowed accidentally score with your hand
I guess the rules can never be perfect, but it does seem strange that if the ball had hit the post or been saved by the keeper and a different Arsenal player scored the follow-up then the goal is given if the handball is deemed accidental. Would be tantamount to penalizing the keeper for making a great save.
I wonder will we ever see a player being aware enough to process the following in .1 of a second. "The ball has brushed my arm, I'm through on goal, it's effectively an open goal, don't shoot, for gods sake don't shoot, pass it someone else".
Wrong thread lol
I remember seeing him in a game and thinking it won't be long before he's starting then I seen him in another game and he was very poor. For me he seems very inconsistent. On a good day he's very dangerous but you just can't predict what you are going to get from him.
He is 21 in fairness. Very few players in any sport who make the jump to consistent performers before 22-23.
Good point. We tend to judge players by their transfer fee or length of time in/around the team, but we should also keep in mind the age of young players.
I don’t think the formation Klopp or Slot plays suits Elliott, but extremely useful when we’re chasing a game. Funny enough i think he would suit an Amorim team.
Conversely, i think Amad would be more suited to a Salah-type or Saka-type role. Not that he won’t be good at wing back or 10, like Saka would be, but would be even better as a right sided front man.
That’s some first touch from Mitoma
Calvert Lewin just scored a worldie for Everton
For a lad who couldn’t hit a cows arse with a banjo for months that was a lovely goal.
But it's against Spurs.
steady on now. I
Need to do better there Bruno.
Comical and atrocious defending by Brighton. They played themselves into trouble and then conceded a penalty.
Dcl had to do better there
Reverted to type on that one alright
Everton with the new manager bounce or just Spurs being Spurs?
Maybe a bit of both.
Nottingham Forest 3-0 up now against Southampton. You Wood believe who has scored the latest goal.
Spurs will have a new manager soon
Was thinking the same. 3-0 down to Everton at half time is awful.
You're having a laugh there Spurs
Spurs are lucky the teams in the relegation zone are so bad.
4 points from their last 27 if they lose today.
Everton 3 up at half time and it could easily be a couple more, Spurs probably should have had a penalty at one stage but they’ve been truly awful, Levy probably typing up anges p45 as we speak.
United very poor in the first half but gut feeling is they’ll pull through with a win here.
Bye bye Ange.
he got there in the end with david and bernardo!
Spurs can still come back and win this
How he has survived this long is beyond me. It was clear fairly early on he was a one trick pony.
Maybe they'll give him until the league cup semi final though ?
