The Hyundai INSTER sub-compact EV with 355km range will be officially released later this month. It was teased today and based on the CASPER ICE model available in some markets. Thoughts?
I haven't seen an Inster in the flesh but it looks like the rear legroom could actually be better than the R5.
Around 5k. Depends on which models you're comparing.
What's the price difference between an inster and Renault 5 when it comes out
We were looking at a Yaris last year as a second car runaround but the whole nonsense with parasitic drain meaning it has to be driven regularly really put me off.
If the inster was around this time last year I reckon we'd have gone for it.
Just ordered one in khaki color, basic model, 21.4k OTR. Feeling excited for it 😀
Well it stands for Integrated Charging Control Unit, so I would expect all EVs to have one. Its function is to charge the 12v battery from the HV battery afaik.
The Inster is a cool little car. Who, in the real world, would ever buy an entry level Yaris for 26k when they can get an entry level Inster for 19k?
No Yaris driver is routinely driving more than 200km in a day
I suppose if you don't have the capacity for home charging, but over time, public charging will replace petrol pumps so which car will be obsolete more quickly, then 2025 Inster, or the 2025 Yaris?
Does the Inster even have the ICCU in the first place.
Or is my every days a school day moment this week going to be that
"The ICCU is NOT specific to 800 volt cars"
I'll try talking to the dealer we bought the Ioniq 5 from. Maybe there's some loyalty scheme to sweeten the deal a bit….but I might just be dreaming :)
You can order online- final price you pay will be displayed. You will pay a small deposit and nominate the dealer. I ordered mine end of Nov and it should arrive end of January so hopefully will collect it beginning of February.
RE: prices, 19945 if you go for "Unbleached Ivory". Other colours are 295 or 595 extra.
What is the on-the-road price of the cheapest model please? (hefty extra payment for metallic paint+delivery was inevitable for our Ioniq 5)
Also, what is the typical lead time?
Thanks
They know what causes it and the fix directly addresses this. Overheating in the ICCU which is fixed by software.
agreed, an excellent package, if it suits you, and a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty on the car, 8 years (up to 160k kms)on the battery, 5 years roadside assistance and 5 free annual “health checks” included, its a very impressive overall package.
So have Hyundai sorted out the iccu issue with this car which plagues the Ioniq 5 and 6?
Hopefully so as you'd imagine engineering out the problem when designing a new model wouldn't be a major issue.
it’s a bit marmite though, I thought it would be a great replacement for our I3 (another marmite car in the looks department ) but my wife dismissed it immediately based on its looks
It's a headturner too and I reckon it will age better than Hyundai's bigger bulkier evs.
I can see it doing very well. It's been packaged very well and the price will tempt anyone thinking of buying a second hand id3 or similar to buy a brand new car instead.
Hopefully this Inster will do well as there's a lot of people who really only need this size car for a short run to the shop once or twice a week.
You don't have to buy that model, the 20k car is still there.
Just shows how the small car is doomed really. I thought this was a smashing little car when I was hearing figures of 20k thrown around but when they're having to turn it into a fake mini suv and adding the word cross pushing it up well into the 30s it just fails to make sense anymore.
That's €34k. Even if it was cheaper here at €30k they'd still struggle to sell in any kind of numbers. A lot of competition in that price range.
Just the bleached ivory to get it as quick as possible. My current wagon is ready to fall apart from under me, so I don't want to wait a minute more than I have to!
That's brilliant. What colour did you go for?
I got a call from the dealer today saying they're expecting them (the boat mine is on anyway) to land in Cork in January 22nd and I should hopefully be driving it away the first week in February after all the customs and registration craic is dealt with.
I have another update. I passed presumably the same truck this evening. This time full of Konas. Now this time it was on M7 before the turnoff for the M8 so can't be certain it was heading south to Cork or south west in the Limerick direction but it definitely wasn't coming from Cork and they were all brand new with tape still stuck to the panels.
The UK Hyundai website, has the Cross with these additional features to the larger 49wk variant, and in UK its £2 k extra.
The Cross variant may not even come to Ireland ?
The normal Inster I'd a good bit more expensive over there than here.
I'm sure I saw somewhere that the Cross is £30k+ in the UK. Can't see too many selling here if it's north of €30k.
Slightly different bumpers, side skirts and the roof rack. No extra ground clearance
