no need to be cautious… the chances of cracking the roof window would be incredibly low…
Interesting one last night, when passing Ionity the 3 screen showed number of stalls and (new or I never noticed before) also the availability as 5/6, I glanced over and there was indeed one car charging.
Athlone Services
I've noticed the availability of eCars chargers also coming up on the navagation lately too.
Yeah, i drove to Galway last week and it showed a multitude of chargers on screen as i went.
The chargers were always there but it's neat they way availability is now there and from multiple providers by the sounds of it
Just about to pull the trigger on a m3 rwd. Solid black with black interior. Sort of nervous as its by far the most ive spent on a car. Changing from a 14yr old Diesel auto. Doing 3 160km round trips a week for work. One end of m50 to the other plus the dreaded m50-N11 merge on the way home. ATM spending 2.5k a year on Diesel just on work so hope to make considerable savings on fuel alone. Charging at home plus I have solars. Any advice for a newbe? Does the adaptive cruise control have a traffic jam mode where it will follow car in front at low speeds without me having to brake etc?
just go for it.
the basic Autopilot is traffic aware cruise control…. So yes, ‘traffic jam’ mode, however I find it very jumpy in bumper to bumper traffic… 1 pedal driving is just so much easier anyway..
Oh and don’t forget to use a referral code when ordering.
The best decision in you could make and you have nothing to worry about. Autopilot does of course incorporate these features (and more), you can actually set the distance between you and the car in front so that this is preserved, depending on your preference. With the right electricity plan you will see running costs drop dramatically. Sent you a message any questions at all feel free to reach out
How much should cheap M3 be going for now? Is it possible to get one for sub €15k?
No not yet. You’d get one for €18k after a bit of negotiating. I have a 2019 with 135k km that I’l probably sell for €18k soon.
You should not plan on charging your car from solar from a financial perspective, way better to charge your car on cheap night time window and export all your surplus for FIT payment
Agree 100%. I bought a M3 Highland last April and charge from 2am to 5am on night rate even though we have solar. You'll get roughly 10% charge per hour.
I came for a seven year old BMW diesel and don't regret it.
Thanks for all the info, very helpful and interesting on the solar use. Do you mind me asking what electric plan you are on?
I'll have to ask my wife!
I'll pm you later.
Bord Gais, Energia and Pinergy all have low cost middle-of-the-night smart meter EV plans.
You'll be able to charge the car during the EV period for no more than 7 or so cents per kWh. Sell the solar during the day for multiples of that e.g. pinergy will buy it for 25 cents / kWh, the other two a bit less.
I'm still on a legacy day/night plan, so current night rate runs from 11pm - 8am (12am-9am in summer when the clocks change)
Just on the solar, even though its more cost efficient to only charge from the grid at night and export all solar excess, theres still a certain satisfaction in knowing you are charging your car from panels mounted on your own roof…
There's a greater satisfaction when you receive payment from the energy company or the credit on your bill 😁
Any M3 Highland owners that use the Granny Cable a lot, I do and it locks very quickly which inevitably leads to not being able to charge so I have to faff around to get it unlocked and try again or the "charge port latch not engaged" message but still charges……
I have the same issue with a Type 1 Zappi using a type 1 to 2 adaptor. Sometimes it can take 2 or 3 attempts to get the charge port light to change from yellow to blue
Heya, my wife's just bought a 2nd hand 2020 model 3. It came with the 19" sports wheels but we prefer the standard 18" ones.
Wheels are in good condition, with some curb rush. Tyres are standard hankook I believe, don't know age/mileage though. Car's on 150,000km so obviously these must be 3/4th set I suppose and look in good condition to me.
If anyone is interested in a swap with some money my way, please feel free to pm.

Good value for a 212 (first time EV, haven’t driven one yet)? Don’t think extra range is needed much bar odd trips to Dublin from West Cork (superchargers in Ballycolla).
Market seems to be overpriced for 2019/2020 models.
Hey, has anyone switched from the MY to the M3H ? Appreciate thoughts on it. I went with the Y for the extra space coz I've 3 kids albeit small ones and really don't think I need the extra space and prefer the form of the 3 especially the Highland. Was going to pull the trigger this morning on the 3 and try and punt the Y. I might have a buyer lined up but am wondering what I should expect as regards a price for a MY RWD with 55km. Last question what is the battery chemistry on the current M3H RWD ? Is it suited to charging to 100% all the time ?
Also what kind of real world range is the M3H RWD giving ?
Not really, with deliveries "soon" there will be 221/222 models for sale by private buyers so you should be able to get a newer car with less mileage for around €2k/€3k uplift and comes with full Tesla bumper to bumper warranty so dealer "warranty" worthless. I'd say the person trading that car is likely got around €22k so you just need to pounce on someone selling their car privately due to imminent arrival…
OP should ask in the https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058256644/tesla-model-3-and-model-y-waiting-room-and-delivery-queries-no-referral-links#latest thread if anyone is trading up from an M3. They might be able to arrange a purchase in advance.
I was considering the Y for the space but decided against it and went for a 3 as I didn’t need the extra space either and the highland to me was much nicer to drive. The RWD is LFP chemistry so is ok to charge to 100% more regularly. As for real world range I can’t say as I’m waiting for delivery soon hopefully.
I switched last year from 221M3 to M3 Highland, it's a very different car, LFP so charge to 100% multiple times a week to get full range, much improved suspension and internals. At 7000kms since end of August my driving has been through a good mix of decent and cold, wet etc and average consumption is 142 so real world range of 420kms across 100/120/80 roads in that order of usage. If I'm doing a motorway run in very cold and driving rain then my range will be much less, if I'm just commuting on 100roads in hot hot weather then my range will be much more
I've recently seen a bit of chat on reddit about inaccurate odometer readings in Teslas. Some pretty mad discrepancies quoted and even a supposed class action in the works. Has anyone here ever noticed something like this?
I would note that these are all in the US (that I've seen) and apparently there's no requirement in law for odometers to be accurate over there.
Thanks @slave1 that would put in the one charge per week territory for work
