Starting a thread for 2025 gigs as they'll likely start rolling in.
I'll arbitrarily throw in Rob Beckett playing the Olympia on the 26th September 2025 which went on sale today.
Pete Doherty solo tour happening in spring time. No dates announced yet but said “While we're at it, Peter will be heading across around UK & Europe in March, April & May. Be sure to pre-order 'Felt Better Alive' in any format or bundle for early access to live pre-sales.”
Edit: you can see the dates if you sign up for presale and doesn’t look like any Ireland date unfortunately
Saw Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys is in Dublin for the 'Irish Premiere' of the new movie. After party in the 'Grand Social'
Only a one-state island when we need to prove that Kahan is a big star.
By the crikey…
artists guarantee can be higher and closer to 40%. All depends. Venue costs can be higher than 30% depending on type and nature of show, security/door staff costs. artist per diems/rider/local transport cost have to be paid/bought, marketing/advertising budget, sound engineer/lighting person, production assistants/runners ,merch person if band aren’t bringing one.
All that eats up the remaining €1000-2000 or so of ticket revenue.
Not going to be a full gig but buying their new (signed) album on CD/€13 or Vinyl/€27 through SD gets you in
VAT and IMRO are calculated on the ex-VAT price so as a percent of the ticket price paid the appropriate values to use are 11.9% and 2.64%.
Where does the missing 15-35% go to?
promoter might earn €500-1300 from a sold out button factory. They have to guarantee all the costs for everyone involved if it doesn’t sell out. Promoters make nothing if only 90% of tickets get sold.
Smaller market, higher claims, higher overheads, lack of competition
I work in life insurance so I'm no expert in general insurance but I know enough to know they're not actually making massive profits
Yeah, a lot of numbers in that look broken to me. Not saying they're wrong, just the balance feels askew to me considering what you're actually paying to see. Like, aside from underwriting the fee, I don't see why the promoter is earning about half what the band are
It's just all depressing. Streaming has killed revenue and we used to hear that bands were covering it with touring, then you read this. Like, how the hell do bands keep going? I'm glad they do, it's just the romantic in me likes to think they can earn a decent living if they're talented
the insurance is higher is a red herring. All the promoters and concert venues have blanket coverage deals which when broken down over hundreds of shows a year and millions of revenue is not an issue. It’s only the big outdoor shows where promoters need to get specific insurance and those are higher in rep of ireland than uk. But these insurance costs are only 1% if even of revenue and given how much money is being made on those stadium shows it’s never a real factor. The costs that the Garda charge for such events is multiples of the insurance and that is what was used to justify not having Katie Taylor in Croker.
Why is the insurance higher in Ireland ?
€25 or so was ticket price. 25% of ticket revenue is spot on and standard for a sold out show. Vat is 13.5%, imro take 3%. Venue hire is anywhere between 15-30%. Promoter needs to be making 10-15%.
Can't remember the ticket price now, but that suggests the band are getting ~25% of the ticket money. That's a broken system.
This is a thread about Irish gigs, the entire island. Of interest to both those in the Republic and North as is clear from the posters here from both sides of the border.
Boards platform isn't a Republic. That was some gig, p1ssed down for part of it.
That all makes sense. We're lucky to get any young British bands at all given the costs incurred. Buying them pints and getting as much merch as you can afford is what we can do to thank them.
A partitionist as well, it just gets worse.
I’d say that Includes a crew member driving a van on the ferry over and back with all the equipment and the band flying in. Van on Holyhead to Dublin ferry is easily €500 -€750 return if not more. €200 each for flights for rest of band/crew from Cardiff at a weekend seems likely. Extra dates in ireland would only dig them deeper in the hole as the fees from smaller venues around the country wouldn’t cover daily costs and then they might all have jobs they need to be back working and can’t afford to come here lose money and miss days at work.
That seems astonishingly expensive for flights from Cardiff. I don't know how much gear they'd have but it's £270 per person. Surely hiring a van would have worked out better but they've obviously calculated that it's not worth it. An instance where doing 4/5 dates here would have made it worthwhile.
Hopefully they'll do well on the merch stand. Success there will encourage them and other acts to keep playing here.
Reunification of ireland happened in 2013?
Custom House Square, Belfast in 2013.
Some insight into the cost of an Irish gig, at a certain level (The Button Factory, Los Campesinos):
"On the topic of playing shows in countries that aren’t the UK or North America…some insight into the financials of shows like this. It’s a (sold out) 500 capacity venue, and our fee is around the £2,300 mark. The cost of flights (7 band, 3 crew) and getting our gear to Dublin is currently coming out at £2,709. So, that’s a loss even before we’ve considered accommodation, crew wages, food, and all the other expenses that will come up. We don’t mind losing a bit of money, the fun we’ll have is worth it, but it’s not a sustainable practice if we were to do it time and time again. Otherwise we’d be playing the world over!"
a few announcements delayed due to Los Angeles fires. Probably a few next week given that it’s pay day time
yeah very unlikely they will play here. Haven’t headlined a show here since 1994 at the SFX. Supporting foo fighters in marlay in 2007 and oxegen in 2009 has been it.
Saw on the forums they're expected to play the O2 London in August NIN, I doubt they'll play here will they though?
Might need to jump across the pond
was just going to ask that today lol
delayed due to LA fires. If want to see them expect to travel to other countries
Damn, was hoping for his own standalone gig. Have missed out twice previously through last minute life events.
Then again, he might not show up to any gig he's booked for so there's that too.
Honestly reckon he will be 3rd headliner of EP. Nothing solid on it but just gut feeling
