If it's auto gear shift you are talking about, I tried it in work, instead of reversing it took me towards a low pillar, had I not intervened or been extra aware I would have hit it. I've turned it off and not used since. I don't find gear changes that cumbersome via the screen in the slightest
Ok, if you have to explain the joke……
But I see your gripe now and where your coming from. 👍
Because it's funny? Nobody said they were afraid of it, just that they didn't trust it. Not exactly unexpected given some of the high profile failures of Tesla's systems. Like self driving for example.
LOL
For those afraid of the system, turn it off and revert to the standard. I don’t know what’s LOL about that?
"Those that are afraid" Lol.
The issue isn't fear, it's rank stupidity. A lot of it about. For reference check out the dashcam thread.
They are. On the headliner. Physical buttons that light up on touch but someone said they are now gone on the new model?
And you can turn auto shift off for those that are afraid.
I think there are some hidden buttons to switch gear as well? They might be active with a blank screen
Edit: above the mirror
I'd still prefer the stalks tbh. Having to keep looking down at the screen to make sure the car has selected reverse and not stayed "in gear" is a pain.
I think the removal of the gear selector isn't a move forward. Few times I've got into my M3 and the screen has stayed blank for up to a minute. No issue with the gear selector.
funnily enough this exact situation is where it excels… don’t knock something until you’ve actually tried it yourself.
I wouldn't trust it in a tight car park where I wanted to make a 5 or 6 point turn to get around. Richard Symons tried it on a YouTube video and you have to keep looking at the screen to make sure the car has selected the correct direction of travel. Not particularly intuitive.
Yeah, looks a lot better at the front alright - pricing will be interesting?
I like it. Facelift progression. Removes the frog eye look. They kept the stalks which is good.
Looks like a mix of BYD, Prius and that xpeng car and the rear has a kind of Kona look. All brands chasing the lower CoD.
Nice improvement and it may sway a few new buyers.
Price will be key. Hopefully
Remains the same, especially with loads of competition out there and public opinions on CEO’s nowadays.
What are your thoughts on the new model y Mr. Gumbo?
Yes. I wasn’t aware it was over €60K new.
LR in Black with Induction wheels and Acceleration Boost is €62,568 to buy new. I think you are the one mixed up here.
I assumed this is a LR AWD which wouldn’t be that much more that €50K new ? If you’re quoting €60K new, then it must be a performance version which is a different animal. €40K is still top money for one. No fixation with wheels but everybody knows upgrade wheels on a used car mean very little. It might sell a little quicker over one without. Optional extras rarely hold any meaningful value on used cars.
Why?
€60k new. Decent saving for someone that was buying. What’s the fixation with the wheels? And not everyone lives by the EV bargain thread.
Madness to pay €40K for that no matter what wheels are on it.
I know of a 231 LR with 20” wheels that sold privately for €40k this week. Think it had AB too. So yeah, a RWD, less.
Not a sniff of 40k for a RWD 231 even if it has the premium wheels. 32k maybe
I like the new design but I agree about the back. I don’t like the squared off look compared to the older one.
The reg plate on the lower valance is throwing me too.
It may grow on me though.
Design inspiration in 1, 2, 3….
because of the autoshift update being so good it means you never change gear, the car does it for you in all situations. So a gear shifter is defo not required… ref to posts by @technocrat & @frank730
Definite improvement. Show me 7 seats and I might bite.
good lord I’m having a hard time digesting the rear. It looks so out of place.
Front is an improvement I’d say n
the front is a better design than the gormless look of the current model, but I can’t understand the big thick light bar that’s linking the new sleek headlights - seems unnecessary, or is it filling a panel gap that the new design has created
Yeh 20's prbably make a bit of a difference. I use 40% of the battery just going from Castlebellingham Supercharger to my house a couple of kms out the far side of Letterkenny.
Done it 26th November. 246km. Used 53% and averaged 15.8kwh/100km.
Model Y LR with AB. And only the 20” wheels. The 21” wheels make a difference and it’s noticeable. I had the 21” on 2 previous Model S P’s too. Longest trip I’ve done in an EV in a while.
I drive Letterkenny to Tallaght, Tallaght to Letterkenny every 6 weeks or so, have never seen efficiency any where near that - Model y performance. Think the best I got was 18.2 last year when temp was mid 20's.
Funnily enough I probably only used Tesla chargers about 1/2 the time, a lot of the ones going through France tended to be in slightly off the beaten path in hotel car parks etc. I prefer ones just off the motorway in service stations, very quick to get on/off and France is great for loads of fast chargers. If the rumors of a slightly large 6/7 seat version of Model Y coming I'd definitely be interested in that but it might be as real as the the other rumours that turned out to be untrue:)
Deffo worth considering then of course. Personal circumstances will over rule my advice for sure. With the euro trio though, the Tesla network comes into its own.
No messing with apps, no planning. Just I put on screen and it will plan the stops and use them for the minimal amount of time possible as you already know.
