great to see such land finally being used, we do need to implement appropriate incentive policies to stop land hoarding though, its doing great damage to our property markets
I see planning has gone in to knock soundstore on Ballybricken and build a 5 storey apartment block
Soundstore closing.....damn.....
Out of curiosity, does that mean the pool will be closing (maybe it's already closed but just wondering as I used to use it a lot but haven't had the chance for a while and was thinking of going back).
Makes sense as there is a big carpark to the rear.
Moving elsewhere in town.
Where is it moving to?
Not disclosed, but are moving from Ballybricken.
There is planning for like 55 apartments for ballybricken.
Here's the planing

Causeway converting Sinnott’s into student accommodation.

Not sure how I feel on this, it was once a great spot but the pub scene is in trouble and it has been pretty much idle since they took it over, part of me thinks they ruined it.
Student accommodation should bring more people in and around town which would be good.
My fear would be what happens outside of the student calender and would it be well maintained.
I guess it would be like Riverwalk available to rent in the summer. It's just an iconic corner so it needs to look good and be well maintained.
I remember years ago there was a plan for a hotel there. The whole corner should be knocked and a new hotel built there. You can be sure it will now be all done on the cheap if Causeway are involved. This site is not suitable for student accommodation.
i be very worried, looking at the plans it should have been not approved because i can see them looking at them changing the old wetherspoons building into apartments which they also own, (Broadsteet bar and Grill) and also the Claires Building they own, they will ruin the city centre
Haven't been down for a while. How is the new bridge coming along and what's it's final use going be for. Pedestrian, train or car? Thanks
It's a pedestrian bridge, with the potential for small shuttle buses. They were initially talking about autonomous shuttle buses, but that's been shelved.
As for construction, they're working away on the piers in the river. Apparently mostly complete. The bridge deck is being built in 6 sections in Belgium and will be brought in by barge. Each section is up to 300 tonnes, so there's a hefty crane coming with them. It seems the basic construction is complete and the opening sections are being fitted out with the necessary systems. They won't be coming over until spring, when the sea is less likely to have storms.
One section of the bridge
Cheers for that, John.Should be a great addition to city. Looking forward to opening.

A huge amount of housing crammed into that field in tramore with no green space
unfortunately, the longer our housing issues persist, the more likely the more mistakes and failures we re gonna make in trying to resolve the problem, its not just a case of building houses, its also critical we implement other critical needs surrounding those houses, such as green spaces!

IKEA will be opening its Waterford store on July 17.
Situated at Tramore Road Business Park at the former Mum N Me’ mother and baby store premises, the new location will be IKEA's largest store outside of Dublin.
The store is what's known as an ‘IKEA Plan and Order Point’.
Spanning 840 sqm, the Plan and Order Point is slightly smaller than IKEA's Carrickmines store in South Dublin (approximately 1,393 sqm), however, it is over eight times larger than all other existing Plan and Order Points in Ireland, which typically range from 70-100 sqm.
5 storey in Ballybricken??? That would seem to be a bit high esp. at that corner site. Dont think that would float in such a historic area of town
