Her boyfriend's mother is an ex RTE reporter or something like that.
I think he might be her business partner too.
It's not a charger as such. It's a jump starter. If the battery is somewhat flat it will give enough of a kick to turn on the EV which will then start charging the 12 volt battery while you drive.
Main downsides , cheap ones are not great, noco brand best. Before first use they need to be charged at home for 10+ hours. They need to be recharged every 6 months even if never used. You can't keep them in the boot as most boots are opened using power these days, instead you need to empty glove box and keep it there. If 12 volt is totally dead car door will not open so you need to learn how to use emergency key hidden inside of remote and how to find hidden keyhole on drivers door. Connecting jump pack wrong way around can seriously damage the car. As soon as you jump car you need to turn car on typically by pressing remote to start stop button, see paper manual with car. Unplug jump pack as soon as you can.
Anyone know of any good charger installers in Limerick? Preferably a company with a few staff that do a lot of chargers instead of a one man band electrician if possible.
Why not an electrician? I had mine installed by a local electrician, done in a couple of hours (I already had the cable pulled through to the consumer unit).
Did a great job, no issues and cost was €180.
Need new shoes for my 2019 e golf any recommendations?? Thinking all season best bet.
my BEV is parked outside the house and has a coat of frost on it and it wont be used again today and probably not tomorrow either.
Would it be an idea to give it a quick blast of remote heating just to clear the frost? I know it may sound silly as not using it, but just not let the frost build up too much etc
Not really…. It will just come back tonight.
You'd have to say the media which in this case RTE are playing their part in spreading disinformation. Resulting in a decline in EVs and an increase in diesel car sales which is the opposite to the rest of EU. They failed to mention this. At some point the EU is going to have a problem with Irelands shift back to diesel. We have a looming emission crisis.
The Govt neglect of EVs and any transition was highlighted at least. There is no disincentive to buying diesel in Ireland.
Commercial unit, will be a few users on it and want them to be able to contact someone if there's problems etc.
I won't be at this premises to troubleshoot and I need this be very user friendly.
Got burnt too many times in work with using very small suppliers just can never get them back if they're the guy that takes the calls, does the bookings, does the hands on work etc
New SEAI app shows ICE users potential savings of driving and EV, along with a page of FUD from RTE
What range anxiety?

Don’t buy the rubbish Dunlop SportMaxx tyres that VW fitted at the factory. Michelin Cross Climate tyres seem to be regarded highly but they’re not cheap.
Make sure you get XL rated ones for the extra weight.
VW had odd ones fitted to ours and one of them deformed and it was the one that wasn't XL. Coincidence maybe.
Try NMD Electrical. They're based in Waterford but work all over and specialise in charging.

Im pretty excited, I'm hoping to pick up my new BEV Saturday.
Can anoney advise a good app to to search for chargers on long journeys?
Sorry I cannot answer your question as I do not own an EV myself so never needed any app but I'm just curious about what car you got?
Plugshare normally has all the chargers listed (as it's crowd sourced)
Abetterrouteplanner for longer journeys
I got the Renault Scenic
they installed our zappi - happy with the process (they facilitated 2 payment installments too, fair play) and working fine with no issues. the installer wasn't long out of apprenticeship i'd say but sound lad
There's probably an app on the car that does it. That will be connected to car battery state etc.
But as the other poster said. Plugshare for just exploring stuff. ABRP for route planning.
Renault use Google software in their cars so the car comes with Google maps for navigation and it will know the battery percentage and be able to plan routes that take charging into account, probably one of the better set ups available
If you want to do some planning from the couch then abetterrouteplanner (abrp) is excellent, if you just want to see where there are chargers then plugshare as mentioned is good
Lots of chargers now have tap to pay but to have yourself well covered for longer journeys sign up to the ecars, easygoing, Ionity and tesla apps
Best of luck with the new car, very exciting
While not based out west GlenEV install chargers and have their own software solution for clients. They installed chargers at our office in Dublin without any issue.
The Renault's Google based system will tell you where you can charge when you plan your hourney. It will also always show you as part of the map where there are chargers near you and their availability. So far, they just seem to be missing the CircleK chargers, but I don't know anywhere you can see their availability other than driving into the forecourt!
1st look around and inside the AFEELA 1 from Sony Honda Mobility.
New pictures as it gets closer to production.

It is keeping close to the show prototype. Rear windows are pop out windows. looks like it gets no rear wiper. The dashboard looks OK and it seems to be getting the steering controls and infotainment from the Renault family. sliding rear seats are very practical although the boot lip looks to be a bit high. At a market price of under 20k euro is should sell very well. 300km WLTP is satisfactory. It will have about 85 to 95 BHP.
I regularly get asked "What about solar powered EVs?". Maybe Aptera have the answer. Some stats
I interview Tim Vaughan, Head of Battery at Aptera Motors at CES 2025 this week.
these maybe
Keep up the great work Derek.
You're videos really helped me to go down the BEV route
I saw that same ad earlier and I'll give them a call on Monday, thanks. Dublin address on their website but they might do nationwide work hopefully. I think I'll get one installed in the employees house too at that price.
I’ve no connection to them but one thing I like is that they actively display their prices. None of this, call me, Pm me etc
I think they posted before that once’s it’s a standard install within 5m of the CU, price applies. Obviously if upgrade works are required that’s difference.
They advertise their pricing for the OHME and zappi too.
