Not to be confused with the other "red door" in the town… the knocking shop
It was the Duke and Coachmen before the Red Door.
Christ that is one shite name. I'll probably never go there based on it.
Signs up for months now - it'll be a "licenced restaurant", but knowing Fitzgerald it'll be run as a pub; it'll be licenced as a pub anyway.
Can't remember if it was already mentioned, but I see that The Red Door has been rebranded back to The Duke again, new sign up over the door since around New Year's at least.
Presume they're doing a fit out at the moment now that the apartments there seem to be finished.
yes will be opening shortly. Legal stuff and instalation of extractor unit took more time than anticipated
Billboards went up on top of the Smoking Goat unit in Tesco carpark today, should indicate some movement on opening. Been very slow getting anything done in there it seems.
yeah i was in flyfit before i moved to maynooth a few years ago, and working in town it's a such a pity for me anyway cos would have gotten such good usage from the roaming membership.
that said, for me at least with my work hours, the opening hours makes it work it, there was one flyfit that was 24 hours but thats disappeared since covid.
another things since covid, speaking of take-away is all the early closings. i dont get home from work till late enough sometimes, like 10 or 11 and a lot of places are already closed by then (lana, yeah burger, dehli darbar etc)
personally i'm not a fan of much of the options in maynooth, even with chinese i order from wongs in kilcock.
Anytime Fitness in Maynooth is such a poorly run gym. Just had a look at the overall rating on google reviews for Anytime Fitness Maynooth compared to other Anytime Gyms in Ireland. Anytime in Maynooth is way behind the others in overall rating.
Been a member myself a while now and anytime a machine breaks in there it’s at least a week sometimes two weeks before it gets fixed. The only two leg machines have broken cables on them nearly two weeks now and a sign on them saying Out of Order.
A FLYEfit would do really well in Maynooth if they could get a location.
I never said it was an issue, it just reminded me of that scene from The Simpsons. It doesn't really bother me one way or the other. Actually I would have preferred if they kept the motor factors there considering it was the only one in the town.
@Morris Code Thanks for that, pretty much exactly what I wanted to hear, and going through
I am in Leixlip area and left Thortons about 3 months ago for Greyhound….offer 12.50 for 12 months…17.50 thereafter…no service charge.
Initially got fairly threatening email from Thortons…seemed shocked that I was leaving them and wanted payment to collect their bins.We also had money in credit with them which would have covered this "penalty".
Stood my ground and told them their bins were available for collection…took them about 6 weeks to collect but in the end they collected and refunded money in credit…..and message that they hoped I would return at some time in future😀
Greyhound have been excellent so far.
Haven't had Falo in a while, but I thought it was expensive last time. Ill try again. Lana is great, better value than Red Torch IMO.
The Elite was fantastic as this.
There's also a lack of "proper" older type cafes, Coffee Mill is the closest there is but it, well, isn't that. Somehow doubt that we're ever going to get another though!
So every once in a while I'm fond on a takeaway, Maynooth has many options but which are the best options, because some of the stuff I've gotten over the last year has been awful. Below are my top 3, and really the only 3 that I think are good, what am I missing from the area?
1. Falo
2. Lana - but prefer to eat in there rather than takeaway.
3. Delhi Darbar
Nearly all the Maynooth ones are independent, right? Although there's two Costas and O'Brien's in shopping centres. That's a big difference for me - if it was all Starbucks and Insomnias and Costas, that would be properly soulless. Cafes where people can socialise and get something to eat make people linger on Main Street and give life to the town. I don't really see the issue - what would you prefer to see?
Reminds me of that episode from The Simpsons. 😄
I'm just glad something is going in, in Leixlip there are many shops closed that do not reopen. So having anything open is always a positive for the town.
Are a lot of the bars/cafes/restaurants in the town under the same ownership?
Soulless with another cafe...it's hardly a bookies or vape shop. It's always good to have another cafe in the town.
Another Cafe. Lovely. Place is becoming soulless at this stage. And I bet even with the extra competition prices won't come down either for a cup of coffee.
Is what it is I suppose.
Bike shop at Newtown always seemed busy when I was in there or even passing by.
Maybe it was increasing rent.
a bike shop would be great alright - hope we get one soon
Update on bin saga.
Thorntons added €45 bin collection fee to me account and won't close till paid.
Greyhound saying don't need to pay, they are obliged to collect bins and that by filling in their collection form, that everything is following protocol.
Maynooth is getting overrun with cafes at this stage.
Bike shops never seem to last anywhere, not just locally but nationally - you get exceptions like Stagg in Lucan who are there decades but otherwise 5 years is about the lifespan.
I can remember three different bike shops in Maynooth in the last ~25 years, all gone.
Motor factors unit is far too big for one really anyway.
Cafe planned, apparently Baa Baa Cafe from Chapelizod opening another
Edit: why did the bike shop in Newtown close? Was it lack of demand? (I agree with you, would love a bike shop. You'd even wonder if one could hire bikes once the Greenway is finished in both directions)
Is there anything currently planned for the old motor factors?
Was thinking it could be a good spot for a bike sales/service shop.
Something I feel that the town is seriously lacking, with so much potential demand. Any time I want anything done to my bike I have to traipse to the guy in Kilcock
Yeah, I'm now going through this exact thing.
Thorntons very unhappy I left without them having chance to offer price match, and want €45 just to take away bins - even though Greyhound have a 'Take away my Bins' section to remove the rival's bin.

Waiting to hear from Greyhound and at moment Thornton account is v low on money - so unsure how they can get me to pay.
