The stated power of the RWD M3 is 208kW (equates to roughly 278bhp). You can find the power of all of the Irish spec cars on the following Tesla link -
https://www.tesla.com/en_IE/support/power-consumption
The one thing I only noticed this year was the lights getting covered, need to go out and throw water on them
It was actually sitting on the car seat when I collected my MY lat year. Just presumed that was the case with all Teslas.
No, you were lucky, if you're into that sort of thing. Not many would have any interest in it but some are.
Or maybe, at the start they didn't include them but do now?
have had one in each of 3 Tesla,s.fwiw
I had one included in previous Tesla purchases but not last years one
I e just seen a few asking for them that I thought they were never included. Good to hear.
would yeah not just use a jug of room temperature or slightly tepid water on the door and window to allow access?
That happenned to me a couple of evenings ago. I defrosted the car from the app, hopped in and drove off. Had to turn back after I realised the lights were crap due to frozen over headlights
You have to hand it to those who live in Russia and Canada with all the extra work that goes into just travelling to the shop. Yes I know they are used to it and the countries are set up for it.
I watched a YouTube video of a Canadian who went up to north Canada in winter and the car parks in the shops have an electrical socket at each parking space to plug in a heater while you shop as if that wasn't there the car would freeze and you'd be stuck.
edit: I just realised this is the ev section and the sockets were there for ICE cars but I suppose you could still use them for EV's.
Not a chance.
I'll use the app to pre-heat & slowly defrost the car whilst eating my breakfast.
Then around 15-20 minutes later, rather than mess around with a frozen door handle in the expected -8 degrees outside, I'll use the app again to open the door and hop into my nice toasty car.
As the window drops when the door is opened, is it possible to damage window mechanism when the door is opened while window is frozen?
In cold weather the windows drop a little in any event as a precaution to minimise any impact of the weather
the way the window dropped in the video after defrost still didn’t look safe to be honest to me.
That's kind of why I posted the video. He suggests a slow defrost at 20 degrees or so in cold weather would help reduce this risk. I wouldnt be so concerned about using defrost mode at when its around -2 degrees or higher, but this morning it was -7 degrees at my house, so I took precautions. YMMV
this morning it was -3 where I was and the car was fairly well frosted so I just turned on the climate to 21 degrees at 07:30 and ran it until till 8am (when my night rate ends, as I was plugged in), then about 5 minutes before leaving for the school run half an hour later I just turn it back on to warm the cabin..
There’s something oddly satisfying about watching the car defrost from my bedroom window, while also seeing neighbours popping out here and there to start their engines and with kettles in hand…. You’d think almost 5 years later it’d start to get old… but it doesn’t.
Use the app to unlatch the door, then you dont need to touch the handle.
I have it as one of my quick control icons in the app.
You can actually add a 5th icon to the quick control menu.
You need to be careful with adding a quick control for door unlatch. If you hit it by mistake (in the app or the widget) then there isn't any way to close the door if you aren't near the car!
Good point. I only added for the cold snap a couple of days ago so will probably remove it once we are past the current spell of subzero shenanigans.
I used this earlier in the week, the handle and door opened but the handle froze in the open position and the door would not close, I managed to close in after a few goes but the handle itself was sticking out in the open position, I drove off and it corrected after a few minutes
I know for the frunk open button, if you are near the car it does it on 1st tap, but if away from the car, it always asks me to verify with an additional tap… so perhaps it could be the same for the unlatch feature.?
Bang on….Tesla has you covered.
Pity the LED lights doesn't provide enough heat and still have to be manually cleared.
that's the benefits of LED, they generate more light than heat
I am paid up so should only be a few weeks.
My own car in the garage for last bit of tidy up for the NCT tomorrow and she will be up for sale (Jaguar XE)
Has anyone here driven the RWD standard range, long range and AWD?
I have driven the RWD standard and the AWD, and I would say there is a dramatic difference in power/acceleration.. Enough so to make me think about changing my order.
I wanted drive the RWD long range to see if this also feels like a dramatic power difference vs the standard but they didn't have one available.
Can anyone confirm, I'm tempted to just go for the AWD assuming the long range RWD won't offer the same feeling of sudden power when you step on it.
Thanks
Long range RWD
Long range AWD
I took the RWD standard and AWD both for test drives. While the AWD has better performance I was more than happy with the RWD. Range for me was not an issue as the RWD covers all my needs. Plus it saved me €10k ish
I took a standard RWD out last weekend and, unknowingly at the time, a LR RWD last Thursday. I say unknowingly as the sales guy (who doesn't seem overly knowledgeable) told me it was a standard RWD. I straight away noticed the difference and said to my passenger that I thought it was noticeably faster than the standard RWD. On return I asked and was told that no, it was a standard RWD. I pressed and he then confirmed it was actually a LR RWD. So, the difference is definitely noticeable! (I believe the figures in the post above are wrong too - it's 5.2 for the LR, and 6.1 for the standard, which is hardly a slouch anyway).
One thing to note - this was a brand new car (I suspect I was the first customer to drive it, it had 17km on the odometer) and did NOT have physical buttons for gear selection in the roof lining.
Yeah, I think those specs are from the last model.
