As suggested in other thread, starting new thread, to continue discussion, and reduce the issue of 'Vanilla Tremble' (…another great new Boards feature!!!).
After event, will merge threads.
You sound like you want it to be -7 or -8? Thats a bit weird.
I'd hope we avoid that sort of stuff and people can get about their business.
Who said I want it to be that cold? Pretty well known by my posts that I'm based in Dublin anyway and at very low risk of the cold this week, and absolutely don't have any feelings either way on the weather elsewhere.
I thought it was pretty obvious I'm referencing how overnight lows so far have been out of kilter with forecasts and looks like tonight once again the forecast is at risk of being pretty out again if the areas at risk of the coldest weather (snow fields down south) are under a bank of cloud.
Strange post, Gusser.
EDIT: To make it abundantly clear, I wish hardship resulting from the cold weather on no one.
It's a weather thread, we look for weather extremes and compare them to previous years/decades. Of course your point is valid
Clear skies near Mallow anyway.
This is a weather enthusiasts forum over and above anything else so as much as no-one wants anyone else to be inconvenienced by the weather including our own loved ones and more vulnerable friends and families, records or rarities caused by the current spell of weather will be eagerly watched, anticipated and commented upon. It's just the way it is. It's like someone with no interest in darts posting on a darts forum complaining why the regulars are obsessed about darts. Don't contribute if it's not your thing....
Beautiful photos 😀
Went out to Blessington today on the 65 to get my snow fix 😂 Here's some photos, although I mainly shot on my film camera so I have to wait for photos to be developed once I finish the roll. Happy as larry now that I got something
I headed back up to the Slieve Bloom Mountains to get a few last snow pics before the heavy frost that is promised makes conditions treacherous up there. The views were stunning but a lot of damage has been done by the recent heavy snow and there are a lot of trees down on the roads and mountain biking trails. I parked up at Kinnitty Wood and walked from there. Between fallen trees and snow depth the road over the mountain is completely impassable at the moment.
There's a higher res satellite here, doesn't capture the whole country on any given day but you can zoom in a lot closer. Plenty of snow across much of the north west today as well

Will be interesting to see if the high cloud keeps temps from plummeting alright.
Arpege has the high cloud (blue) modeled, but still has quite low temps, although not as low as you would expect under completely clear skies. I assume the higher the cloud, the less affect is has on keeping temps up, but still we all know from experience that completely clear skies are much colder at night.
@Mooro Stunningly beautiful!! Amazing pictures, would be fabulous as prints , The Slieve Bloom mountains are a magical place to be.
@Mooro Awesome photography!
Wow thanks very much for that Thunder87, hadn't come across Copernicus as Hi resolution as that. Incredible detail and great cloud formations, some big convection showing up well around Kerry today.
My area today, trapped here for another while..east kerry..
Athenry leading the way at 9pm at -3. Not very cold elsewhere, yet.
I don't think temperatures are to plummet till after midnight
@Mooro stunning photos.
Athenry will probably get -7c but most other areas -3 or -4c and maybe a WOW location -8c
Still 3c in Sligo town and raining on and off most of the time. Had hail earlier today but even then it was 5c.
Thanks everyone for the stunning photos over the last 24 hours, thread is great to watch.
Dry here, last nights snow is still about a bit, and a hard frost.
Temp here is Minus 0.3 C dropping slowly, sky is clear, baro is 993 hPa steady the last while. Winds calm.
So far not really cold enough to freeze the plumbing, but praying for the pipes in East Meath.
There's word that one of Mattie McGrath's JCBs is clearing snow in a housing estate in Clonmel.
The many teachers living there may beat him to death before the evening is out
Thanks for these. Epic pictures and great to see her. Haven't been up in 'too long'.
In 1947, the snow in the valley beyond Glenbarrow (and behind the Ridge of Capard) drifted up to the eaves of the cottages and a decision was made to finally move out of the Cones. The Clears were the last family to do so.

Edit: in 1947, by the end of 30 days of snow across was it 90 days, the majority of Irish people mulled completely leaving Ireland and turning the lights off at the ports.
Still some very big variation in model temperature output. These are three forecasts for 9 am tomorrow. Place your chips on the one you think will verify… I go for Door No. 2.
Some primary and secondary schools in South County Longford have put on social media that they are closing tomorrow. The temperature is minus 1 in that area at the moment (9:20pm).
Just back indoors from a quick trip outside.
Clear skies in north Kerry and it's cold
What are the round dark holes in the snow cover? Look like bubbles!
The Status Orange Alert for snow issued by Met Eireann was spot on. The snow cover visible in NASA's satellite view of Ireland aligns with the 10 counties that were the subject of the warning.
Down to -3.7c already
down to -3 in my part of cork city, dropping fairly quickly since 8pm. Not forecasted to get below -4 here
It is fcking freezing tonight. Coldest its been. Must be -3 here in east clare.
Just about managed to get down the hills today as there was some thaw. Its going to be bad tomorrow though.
What an excellent way to visualise things. Good stuff @WolfeEire .
