As suggested in other thread, starting new thread, to continue discussion, and reduce the issue of 'Vanilla Tremble' (…another great new Boards feature!!!).
After event, will merge threads.
I wonder do these models take account of snow covered areas which lower temps further.
SNOW RISK OVER THE COMING DAYS
Further snow accumulations can be expected across Ulster & North Connacht today and tonight. Showers will tend to die out for a time early tomorrow morning but Further showers expected on Wednesday into Thursday morning especially across Donegal Antrim, Derry, Sligo, Leitrim & Mayo at the highest risk. A few showers feeding into Tyrone, Fermanagh and Roscommon also could give some accumulations. Upper Air temperatures will be colder and Air temperature so the risk will be higher of anything that falls will be snow.
Friday there is a potential for rain and sleet turning to snow as it moves up across places but alot of uncertainty at the moment on this. The GFS really is on its own.
"I was very lucky to get the few hours of snow in Dunshaughlin."
No such luck in Carrigaline Co Cork. For the first days when many other places North Cork up were getting the Snow we had about 36 hours of torrential solid back to back rain. Day before yesterday we did have a few snow showers inc some very promising heavy blasts thats lasted maybe 20 mins or so but it never stuck, just melted away.
Closest I came to the snow was yesterday when an Offaly car pulled in ahead of me to the local ALDI carpark in carrigaline. I looked at its roof, confused for a second then noted, literally, a foot of snow on the roof. Not sure if they drove down from Offaly or came from North Cork / West cork with that on the roof perhaps. As to why they never cleared it off the roof, no idea. When i walked passed it there was snow stuck in the front grill also
Maybe left it there to tease us snowless cork onions
Had our first proper snow of this event, this morning in Roscommon town. Just about a cm
Still, at least the place looks cleaner for a few hours, before it all turns to brown mucky slush and melts to reveal the litter everywhere!
It was a tad cold in the breeze to say the least 🥶
Showers of rain and sleet near coasts, and snow inland, will continue this afternoon and into this evening. Overnight, showers should become confined to coastal areas. With winds easing, it is likely to be a much colder night than last night, bringing widespread frost and icy patches.
Yep were basically done with the snow now until the next time and for much of Northern half of Leinster the wait painfully goes on and on. I was very lucky to get the few hours of snow in Dunshaughlin. Very few reports of lying snow elsewhere in Meath apart from the Hill of Tara.
For me the biggest dissapointment of this cold spell was lack of proper cold, which was in the model output up to a few days ago, uppers milder than expected, too many mild sectors, no ice days.
So cold in Carlow there were even penguins spotted 😁🐧
Id say we can safely say thats the end of the sneachta for this weather event we have had for recent days. Dry, clear skys, no rain/sleet/snow I imagine .. just feckin freezin cold until the weekend anyway.
I'd imagine the breeze up Killiney hill there would cut you in half this morning!
A beautiful dry and bright morning.
Temperatures dipping tonight to as low as minus 8c to minus 10c in areas where there is snow cover. Zoomed in Arome charts for Tipperary, Limerick and Laois below. Milder in coastal fringes, but few places remaining above zero tonight.
We had snow in Skerries last night, it lasted at least an hour or so and was still going when I turned in for the night. It was light but sticking. Unfortunately, it was gone by morning. Now there is a solid layer of ice on my garden table. Haven't seen that since last Thursday, so I think the temperatures have decreased here.
Douce Mountain, West Cork
got a bit of slushy snow last night, 90m Asl. none at sea level. sw donegal
rain since
Very slippy on the footpaths and around our estate this morning in Dublin 9. There was that light dusting of snow last night that turned everything white for a little while, but it was mostly gone by 5 this morning. The sun is out again though!
Yesterday morning, north Tipp. Greater dump of snow than I've seen here. Some light thaw here yesterday, but makes the footpaths (in particular) worse.
Sunny with blue skies in Galway but unfortunately no snow. Keep those snow pics coming. I will head to the hills at the weekend to hike in snow if it's still there.
Cars frozen solid this morning, rain yesterday evening plus a shower of ice pellets or graupel frozen on everything. Paths are lethal. Athenry.
About 2-3 degrees in the city so not as bad.
So this morning the snow from yesterday has turned to dangerous ice around the housing estate meaning I can't even get from the back door to the car without risking breaking my neck, and I do actually need to go somewhere.
I hate this f-ing weather! It's grand if you're a child, but as an adult it's just massively disruptive.
A fine morning in County Clare. A slight thaw underway after temperatures remained above freezing overnight. Any thaw will come to an abrupt halt this evening as temperatures head below zero.
Done the splits alright 😭
Got down to -0.2c near the Kilkenny/Laois border at 90m ASL. It was breezy throughout the night which kept temperatures up. I'd say that low pressure deepened as it tracked south last night and this wasn't predicted.
Still, snow cover remains around 8cm. Very crunchy stuff.
met giving a low of minus 8 at 3am for my location in south mayo
Yr.no giving minus 2 but falling to minus 4 at 8am
I know which I hope is correct !
We have no snow cover if that’s affecting met predictions I don’t know
I thought you were going to say the nutcracker suite 🫣
North Cork is still treacherous. Side roads mostly impassable except where farmers cleared the snow. Can't remember anything as bad this since 1978. The "Beast from The East" was over in a day.
I don't know how accurate my phone app is but apparently lowest reached last night was minus 1 last night for an hour. There was frost on cars this morning. My app is giving the lowest temp tonight as being minus 4. So not sure will it get as low as met eireann predicting. Still snowed in and school still closed. Husband managed to get to work with some difficulty. I'm very over the snow already although the kids are enjoying going out in it each day.
Went out for a run there and ended up auditioning for dancing on ice
A mixture of hail, sleet, snow and rain here in South Donegal (84m ASL). Roads are treacherous, even some of the salted routes because of slush turning to ice overnight.
The very lightest of dustings here (south of Cork city), more like a heavy frost, but footpaths and untreated roads are fairly dodgy. Got down to a low of -0.1C this morning and is 0.6C now, didn't go below 1C until this morning.
