Supposedly the release is paused until after the Christmas holidays. Will be handy for WhatsApp on android phones but can't see any real benefit otherwise bar maybe circumventing the bug that happens sometimes when you chose a music or podcast app and it opens the last used one.
First time ever seeing the traction control light on the car, only a little slush down this way thankfully.
It's a good car in the snow. I'm having trouble connecting my car to the Polestar app. Tried everything. I wonder is a wifi issue? Am I correct in saying you get free wifi for two years in the car and them you need to pay for it?
You get a T-Mobile SIM free for three years from date of first purchase. You can access your T-Mobile account, can't remember the details off the top of my head, but you can then extend it if the free three years has expired.
Edit: Also, you might lose connectivity if the SIM is out of coverage (rare, but it happens) or your TCAM unit has locked up (happened to me twice so far) and you need to reset it.
Resetting used to be by pressing the play and demist buttons simultaneously for 15-20 seconds, but for me (and others) this stopped working about the time of 3.1.9 software update. Now, if you put the car on charge and lock it and leave it for a while (I did it overnight) it resets.
I was having issues today for the first time with my app not connecting to the car, had also been having problems with you tube music not working so I did a tcam reset today and it sorted everything, it's nice and easy to do
Just a word of warning on 3.3.16. Apparently a problem with setting up PAK that came with versions 3.2.4 and 3.2.8 is not fixed with 3.3.16.
The problem occurs when setting up a new phone as key. The process doesn't complete successfully. So if you want to add another PAK, do it now before your software gets updated.
Existing PAKs are not affected.
This maybe a stupid question after driving the car for 18 months, how do I know if I have pixel lights or not?
It’s just a fancy Volvo name for matrix headlights, so if you notice your full beams moving for traffic etc you have them.
They came on the Pilot Pack so you should have them if you have that pack.
Can you check your app for the car spec?
It actually says it on the lights. And as @Gumbo says they only come with the Pilot pack (not Pilot Lite) which iirc was only available on the first models that arrived here. Also on the BST editions too afaik.
Are you sure? I got the pilot pack back in 2023 but I just have standard automatic headlights.
I checked Polestar site at it states "Pixel LED headlights with adaptive high beam (available as a single option)", but in some markets they were part of the pilot pack, Israel for example, which was where google brought me for some reason!
The Irish website is so bad to navigate. Its a disaster!
Pixel lights were originally part of the pilot pack when the P2 launched here, the first P2 I took for a test drive had them fitted. They removed pixel lights from the pilot pack some time during Covid, couldn't even add it as an optional extra. The Polestar Ireland website is a disaster. Can't view any inventory P2's, can't order a MY25 P2 from the website yet either. They screwed themselves by stocking too many pre-facelift P2's.
Saw my first Polestar 4 in the wild on Sunday. Lovely looking car.
I knew I wasn’t imagining it. Thanks.
I've never really understood the break from Volvo, absolutely cannibalising what was already a smallish brand (said as a 2 Volvo house mind)
Was originally a separate company. Then taken over by Volvo, but kept at arms length, so never really part of the main company.
My personal opinion is that Volvo were dipping their toes into the EV market and seeing how R&D went, sales went etc before doing same with Volvo direct.
Could well be. Polestar launched the Polestar 2 in 2019, while Volvo launched the XC40 the following year. Both were developed on the same chassis iirc.
When I was looking for a P2 late last year, from what I could find out, it seems that IE cars delivered before about May 2022 still had the Pixel lights (if they had the pilot pack). Certainly one car I looked at which was registered on Mar 2022 had them.
Pilot pack was renamed to Pilot lite pack to signify the removal of the Pixel lights which, you are right, was sometime during Covid due to chip shortages.
The boot kick opener was also missing on some cars but they did (are?) retrofitting that foc
Have 41k on mine, serviced at 30k. For the last while I'm getting a grinding noise coming from the wheels when I start driving slowly. Is it likely my pads are gone already? Or could they be dirty after the snow and crap last week.
do a hard brake from a decent speed, obviously with nobody behind you. See if that clears any loose debris. im assuming you’ve physically already looked at your pads to see what their thickness is.
If you're not braking, it's hardly pads.
The pads would have been checked at 30k not replaced. So yes they could be gone. Do a visual on them through the wheel .
I find it hard to believe that any EV would need its brake pads changed at 40k kms. I’d expect a normal ice car to last longer than that. If they were any way worn, the lads would’ve said it to you at the 30k service.
An ice should need pads are 40k all day long. That's a ridiculous expectation frankly.
EV hard to know the driver or habits.
Mines been parked a while as it's only used a day or two a week these days. Using it today for the first time in a week in and out to work it's still grinding on the way home. The brakes build up a layer of corrosion, particularly with what was on the roads in the last 10 days or so. Like mentioned a couple of good brakes to clear it will be fine.
Really?
Change brakepads every 2 to 2.5 years? Never have had to do that. Genuinely can't remember the last time I've changed pads on a car.
Ive original pads on a 2019 520d here. 80k on it too.
Yep. And someone having 2019 original pads it's not the depth I'd be worried about it's the surface condition. 👀 this used to be a motor forum …
That will be me your referencing there… Checked regularly, no fatigue or any signs of degrading surfaces etc
Removed and callipers cleaned and inspected, just like your EV requirement,.
You're forgetting some of us look after our stuff and keep on top of it, especially as its a motoring forum (or Appliance forum here in the EV Section).
😁😎 many talkers on here not walkers. Easy to get confused. 6 years out of brake pads is a stretch though surely you can agree.
