Despite some good falls of snow today nothing further accumulated in Rathdrum. Temps were too high for it to stick and what had fallen overnight is well melted now particularly on the roads and footpaths. Light rain here now and the hi-res models are showing us to remain above freezing tonight so hopefully all will be good for the commute tomorrow morning.
Nothing was expected for north Kildare except a "possibility" of sleet or snow.
I think ME and the established posters here were spot on.
There is a general ice warning for most of the country from Tuesday to Thursday when it will likely be below zero for 3 days.
I'm in Clondalkin, and as of around 6PM, there is no sign of snow.
I work in Blessington, but it looks like I will be working from home tomorrow. I presume that the N81 is a no-go road, so it's best to play things safe. At least I brought home the laptop on Friday in case.
Snow didn't stick in Fermoy (Cork) but north of Fermoy was a whiteout :)

Almost 60,000 homes, farms and businesses in Ireland are without power this evening due to poor weather conditions, says ESB Networks.
It says outages are focused in the counties of Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow, Laois and Wicklow.
In an update, ESB said it anticipates power restoration will take a number of days in the areas that are worst affected due to "hazardous weather conditions and accessibility challenges".
"The freezing temperatures and hazardous conditions are slowing restoration efforts," it said.
"Our crews will continue the restoration for as long as possible this evening but, with the difficult conditions, it is likely that the majority of customers will not have their power restored tonight."

South of Cork city, temp 1.2C, started up again but more a wet snow due to the temperature, if it gets heavier it might make a difference.

Yes. We have had plenty of very heavy snowfalls here in Dublin over the years . Some very heavy , thinking 2010 and 2018 , and last March for some parts of Dublin. Not all easterlies bring milder air .
Not this time maybe , but it's exactly as predicted by some very good weather posters here and in ME so no surprise really. Fun times today, left a thawing rainy South Kildare to drive to The Osprey in Naas. Really nothing to speak of in Naas, just constant rain. Then during the meal it turned to sleet & then to snow. By the time we left if had gotten heavy, road leaving the hotel & back to M7 was very sketchy, 2 cars ahead of me skidded at red lights.
Reached the M7/M9 & took an hour to drive South in a blizzard with nothing but 2 blackened lines to guide the wheels. Got overtaken a few times which I thought was mental, outside lane pure white. Saviour for me was the regen breaking on the electric car so I never had to touch the brakes. Only trouble I had was being unable to get the car back on the drive I'll have range anxiety tomorrow.
This must have been one of the wettest rain fall events in Dublin over the past year. No let up for 28 hours at this stage (and not a snowflake in sight)
just in case, I wasn’t posting negatively. I’m absolutely delighted as I wasn’t expecting anything to get up near us. Just trying to guess about school for the kids tomorrow now as I didn’t think we’d have any snow but now we do and if it freezes… well that’ll be miserable!
Cattle still need feeding in the snow. They don’t mind it as long as they’re not hungry.
One of the biggest non events for North leinster in years...the most we got in Dublin 15 was wet snow for about an hour and then heavy rain and sleet for the preceding 24 hours....many other places in the north Midlands were the same .…
Nice to see places like Kerry and Clare and Limerick get some snow though as it is very rare down there at low levels.

That's really the only way, it's either a feast or famine and 9 times out of 10 it's a famine due to geography.
Walked half a mile to the Centra in Portlaoise. 3 young pups 16/17 started throwing snowballs at me on the way in and out. I stepped towards them and they ran away. But I'd turn to walk home and they'd run back, then run off etc. I'd love to give them a few clips but we all know where that would end up!

Absolutely. I am quite close to Casement so pretty inland ( for Dublin) and decent height also and we normally do quite well here for snow. But jez I have to say that was probably the most depressing 27 hours weather I can remember. Never got above 3 or below 2 C. Rained constantly all through and the long dark nights at this time of year just topped it off.
ME got it pretty bang on with this event. There's only so granular you can go with forecasts, if you are serious?

Yes, and the worst thing that can happen is for freezing rain where the temperatures are cold enough to produce an ice storm. Then you can expect massive power outages, and falling of trees, and damage to infrastructure.
I lived through the Quebec Ice storm in 1998, and we were without power for a week, some in rural areas went without for weeks.
I suppose it is possible for Ireland to experience this type of event if sustained rainfall coupled with a long enough cold spell arises. I hope not!
nothing I’m looking at is saying it’ll freeze in Cork tonight. Hovering around the 1-2 degree mark, but it feels like -8. Will that be conducive to thaw?
Yeah every model or site I look at says 1 or 2 degrees. Areas with snowcover can have lower than forecasted temperatures though.
What bemuses here is the fact that southern counties did so well..that is a record.
When we have major snow events i.e. lots of snow like it 2010, 2012, 2018 it is usually the East of the country and Dublin that do best.
This is an exception.
When is the last time Killarney had heavy snow like now??
