As suggested in other thread, starting new thread, to continue discussion, and reduce the issue of 'Vanilla Tremble' (…another great new Boards feature!!!).
After event, will merge threads.
is it sticking
East kerry, 25cm..
Very True
so the original warning was until 5pm I believe. What comes overnight? Just low temps? North Kildare, was expecting nothing but have a good covering and roads are fairly dodge
Newcastle also
Snowing in Dublin 15 but not sticking
As predicted by all of the models and by me a big issue was the Main Cork Dublin Road and indeed more so over towards Limerick. The worst by far is yet to come, the freezing of snow and slush later tonight. Met Eireann did just OK, some areas in orange should have been red. We've had far more reds for a lot less!!
Just back from a walk from rathfarnham (76m ASL) up to stocking lane (134m ASL).
Nothing but very heavy cold rain to report.
I wonder is it going to freeze as much as expected. The temps in Mallow seem to hover around 1 or 2 degrees per met eireann app.
OH JOY
"M8 near Cashel at a standstill, if you are at home and don’t need to travel in areas impacted by snow I’d say best stay at home given the traffic mess! Photo by Deirdre O’Sullivan"
East kerry..
Sounds like my idea of hell.
I've had a foot of snow and a drift of 3feet in north Kerry. My son tells me that my field is deeper
Agreed. At one point it was 3 abreast on the M7. Impatient driver overtook two cars on the motorway. There are only two lanes.
Incredible stupidity. You wouldnt see that behaviour at the height of summer, but in snowy conditions you see it...
I heard it was bad up there.
So marginal here. Starts snowing and sticking and then turns back to sleet again and washes away been doing that for a few hours now. Looks much better from 8 onwards if the precip can stick around
Everyone of those drivers who went out when they didn't actually need to, are a disgrace.
Yes, I'm sure some of them had unavoidable work and carer commitments, but I'll be willing to bet the majority did not. And now rescue services have to come out and put themselves at risk.
Not bad in maynooth. Yes got snow. Melting already and to warm to freeze.
Unbelievable.
We have had enough tragedies on the roads already. That's so stupid and careless :(
A nice bit fell in Waterford City, enough for the kids to have a play in it and make a snowman.
Stopped snowing past hour in north Tipp. Watching cars slide and turn back down our lane.
most schools in area closed tomorrow
The worst thing I've seen is a new TD saying the opposite, that Orange wasn't sufficient for where he lives (hilly area of Limerick), and that it should have been Red.
Despite the fact there was far less than 30cms where he was posting from, and he never even bothered to look at the Red warning being for 30cm/24hr
Snow stopped in Dunshaughlin about an hour ago and it's light rain now with a fairly rapid thaw. I'm not sure there will be much on the ground by the morning.
south Co limerick, approx 11km outside city
80m ASL
Ended up with 20cm of snow between last night and today , todays snow fell at a phenomenal rate .
Spent the evening trying to clear the driveway
Snow stopped now , temp 1 deg C, DP 0.6 and both rising.
you can hear the beginning of a thaw. Wont last long as a big freeze is expected tonight
From a new TD no less, shocking stuff ;)
It will take a while for cloud cover to clear. I suspect most, if not all of it, will be gone by morning at your distance inland. With temperatures falling later in the night ice will probably be the issue.
Still snowing away, albeit lighter now. Bit more of a breeze lately so it's coming in sideways at times.
Cars driving past going noticeably slower on the road. Say some idiots today driving through town far quicker than they really should have been!
Snowing heavily again in Waterford. Snow covered roads from a bit earlier have gone slushy. I'll be measuring at 7pm for the website but looking like 3 to 4cm so far.
Not one flake stuck with me. I'm going to blame all these solar farms in Meath.
I’m Convinced the next time Louth gets a decent snow event it will take a 2010 style scenario 😭😭
