She started drinking alcohol at 12 years of age and it nearly killed her. She is in recovery now.

I haven't read the article, but Mary-Kate came across as having a lot of affectations. On the show, she mentioned being an "old soul" or something along those lines. As an example, she shared that as a child, she didn’t want to watch Morbegs or Bluey—instead, her favorite show was The Clinic.
It just felt like one of those moments where she was trying a bit too hard to sound unique or sophisticated. Not sure if anyone else got that vibe, but it seemed like she was leaning into the idea of being "above" typical childhood interests in a way that came off a little forced.
If you get a chance it's worth a read.
I guess she grew up a bit too quickly, that'll probably be down to starting on the sauce at 12.
She seems to be doing ok in London now.

I gave up a couple of minutes ago. That panel would give an aspirin a headache. The dangers of the far right discussion was bordering on hysterical, but the defence of Simon Harris’ interaction with the lady in Kanturk was the last straw.
The host’s (McDonald) pronunciation of tumultuous and outlier however were interesting takes on the words. I can’t even attempt to phonetically spell her attempt at tumultuous, but her outlier was something like “ow-tlee—erer”. It reminded me of this:
Tuned in for a few seconds, some guest was in the middle of a huge peaen of praise for Anne Rabbitte in her role as junior minister for disability. Turned off again.
Yeah that was pretty bad too, and then the attempt to make it seem like disability was the core issue of the last election. Bonkers stuff really.

Just listened to the pod of this now. This was a bizarre section. They indicated that disability was the main topic of the election, but also that it wasn't. And that Ireland is ready for a disability minister, but pointed out other countries don't have one (without stating the obvious that our disability sector is shocking). It was all very rambling and unstructured, in a bad way.
No BOC this weekend either. Has he retired! Or just enjoying the superb RTE holidays.
So the earliest he'll be back is 11th January. And no doubt he was off before Xmas. So a 3 week break, great job if you can get it.

As mentioned in the liveline thread, it was actually very unusual this year to have Joe Duffy back on January 2nd, as he's usually not back from his Xmas break until around the 15th of January. As for BOC, he seems to have the exact same deal as the late Marion Finucane, you may recall when she died around New years day 2020, she had been on annual leave for weeks beforehand.
At least Marion hosted the show in somewhat better reflection of what actually was going on in the real world and wasn't really worried about being sued.

The Ingles duo are usually utterly painful and, as cynical as it sounds - even with her cancer (best of luck to her) - they still are. I don't think there is a person listening who hasn't been affected (directly or indirectly) by cancer. Why the need to be so public about the 'journey'? To be 'inspirational' to others? So many people go through similar. BOC says he's in awe.
Personally, I'd rather hear about cancer when it involves victims/survivors and/or medical experts who can educate us as to what to look for etc.
At least he's back at work. Well rested.
I was going to post something along the same lines but decided against it, but I agree. Felt 100% performative. As a columnist everything in her life is grist to the mill. And everything learned along the way is a revelation to be shared with the plebs.
