a great way to ‘put down the evening’ during these dark, cold and windy nights when you are ‘looking for something to do’
I have a recycling bin l pay for to bring them back already thanks. As i posted earlier that this should have been put on 1 off purchases of small single cans or bottles. That what most litter is made if anyways. Not 1.75 lt bottles and multipacks.
I wouldn't recommend it 🙂
I only did it twice in the interest of research.
I found out it works and also that alu cans are quite easily cut with a strong kitchen scissors ✂️
Of course you're correct, placing an extra layer of cost on something like packs of cans, bottles or large bottles should have been ruled out. Ah, but then the money wouldn't flow. And this is all about money.
Not sure if it was posted before, but this is what's needed. Also, in a location you can drive to so if it's out of order or full, your not walking back to your car.

The effort in crushing your cans and bottles is surely greater than the effort in putting them into one of the machines during your normal weekly shop, and in the latter, you collect money.
Your approach is madness.
I didn't think Northern Ireland was in the scheme but just noticed the brewdog cans I bought in Sainsburys have the logo on them.
Checked receipt but wasn't charged any deposit.
NI isn't in the Re-turn DRS scheme and they don't have one of their own.
Some products that have the logo are sold in both jurisdictions.
Do the cans work on the machines here then? That would be nice 🙂
They might depending on the barcode.
You can check it on the Re-turn website.
Looks like it. 12 mixed box with deposit returned works out at €15 then 😄
Call it a 🎄 Christmas ⛄ bonus 🙂
Any NI logo'd cans and bottles I tried paid out no problem.
You will see the Re-Turn logo on certain cans / bottles in NI. E.g. lucozade.

A disgruntled consumer defecated in a bottle and inserted it into a reverse vending machine according to correspondence received by a government minister. The man claimed it was part of a dirty protest against the controversial Deposit Return Scheme. In an email sent to Ossian Smyth, the outgoing minister responsible for the scheme, the man said he had placed “a large turd” inside a plastic bottle before inserting it into a machine – and got his 25 cent deposit back.

🤣
Some people are worse than animals.
Maybe, But imagine setting up some slush fund and having to evenvertably have to deal with the Sh*t afterwards. Would love to see this years accounts when they are released. Or will ahem competiion be used and excuse.
”putting one of my own deposits in a reverse vending machine”
”but admitted it was “a bit rich” for someone who had “just s**t in a bottle” to complain about stinking containers”
Not all heroes wear capes. 😆
He must have some incredibly light leavings. I tried to put a two litre Pepsi bottle in with about 30ml still in it and it rejected it based on the weight discrepancy, told me to empty the container and reinsert.
Perhaps a diet consisting entirely of candy floss and rainbow drops?
I'd take the entire story with a large pinch of salt.
I am well aware of the profits accruing for those in the top of the Reclycling system. But are you defending the behaviour of this "person" as a means of protest?Surely there are more novel ways of protest against this quango than this despicable behaviour.
True but They do work. Ages ago French farmers sprayed "think it was a myors house or something" with lorry loads of Sh*t. I'm more impressed that they got it in to a bottle. Not that it's true or not.
I'm surprised my local machines are stil working these days. I thought over Christmas they would be down. I suppose the few days after new years will happen.
This is true. Never underestimate the dirty protest. Few dodgy claims in this one olrite. Long established theres a low extra weight allowance per container.
Me too. If it is true the machine would't have accepted as it would be too heavy so he either took it home (I doubt it) or left it for some poor sap on minimum wage to clean it up. Well done sir a victory for the common man for once. Dickhead.
Made a point to drop some off, along with the glass between Christmas and the new year. Imagine January will be fairly brutal.
I get all of my groceries delivered. I dont drive. The effort in crushing my cans and walking 20 meters is not greater than getting a taxi 5 miles away.
5 supermarkets today with re-turn machines "out of order"
Methinks they just didn't want the bother though
Did you not hear CEO Foley on the radio during the Summer? We're only supposed to try gettin our own money back when it suits Re-Turn.
Happy New Year everyone!
They were probably all full. I know some private couriers were working over christmas week, but bin-men generally don't.
On the 23rd I did a massive clean up which resulted in lots of stuff going in my black and green bins. As of this morning it's all still there.
