F### DRS! €10 for 36 cans of Coke is great, but then the proxy DRS adds another 50+% tax on top, that you may not get back.
why won’t you get it back ?
Gotta give credit where it's due—Lidl's deals this week have been great. I remember past years when it was discounts on toys, PJs, socks, and Christmas sweaters. The veggie deals are just as good this time around.
Crackers were all sugary junk though, even if they do drive footfall, posters comment on the huge still unsold displayed offers.
49c veg here v. 8p/10c in Newry. Fair to say, I'm very grateful that Lidl exists, and we have gotten excellent freebies with Lidl Plus since summer 2020.
If you buy them as a Christmas gift for friends/family, that's a complete write-off. Kids throw the empties away, wherever they may be.
Tesco, Dunnes and Lidl have the same veg offer, and yes that's a bargain.
that’s a strange gift to give
Nobody in my house throws away the cans or bottles kids included, children need to learn the value of money
I see kids in my area actually collecting cans and taking them to the local shop for extra pocket money, these lads are only 10/11 and are clearly raised we’ll
Are you expecting people to return empty cans to you, that you've "gifted" them, so you can return them the couple of euro? 😂
Obviously not. But then the offer isn't €10, it's €15.40. More or less, depending on how many boxes of cans you gift. They don't have to be gifted, but there are scenarios where you won't get that money back. The point is it's an obnoxious tax.
The offer is €10, DRS is not included in the offer. If you gift them (as people have said, an odd gift to give) and the person returns them they collect the deposit.
There's a whole thread if you want to go and complain about the system, but it's not a tax, literally in the name Deposit Return Scheme.
I already recycled my cans, if anything we could do with more cardboard recycling here, but anyway, the DRS is fine by me - someone with no car mind you.
If you want to win with it you could money launder by using a credit card that gives money-back, so you get the 1% or whatever on 15 euro instead of 10, then get your fiver back on top. Revolut I think has this, for example. I use WireX myself, not for this reason obviously but it clicked with me I was doing this last time I bought a 6 pack of energy drink in lidl.
Also, there's the sugar tax, if you buy the full sugar cans you also win in a possible illegal way, not sure how sugar tax works here, but you'd think lidl would be in trouble, as they're all 18 packs for the same price.
It's funny, I got 1 full sugar even though we prefer zero, just because. :p
3 now on my app of 30% off Santa from scratch and win, I'd even take a free honey now again
We only paid €2.70 actually, we didn’t pay the drs for the free cans.
Interesting. So you actually saved €12.70.
I've scratched 2 and got that both times. Hate santa flavoured chocolate too :(
You got a good deal.
Is there a Parkrun this week or are they running late (pun not intended) because of Christmas? There's no new treats in the app yet either.
Lidl is closed so it’s unlikely to update with new treats until tomorrow
Since when did mince pies go out of fashion?
Struggling to find bargains.
Cost of Living for retailers too, caller.
the amount of Xmas stock left in my lidl this morning was unreal, never seen so much still left. Did people buy/spend less or did retailers over order?
I got 3 boxes for €4 in Super Valu
Did they reduce prices much? Tesco had a few good reductions but any real bargains were sold out.
But, were they reduced? any bargains?
My guess is it was bad pricing. For a lot of their Xmas stuff you had to buy two to get the normal price. I was "F' that" and bought one in Aldi instead for the normal price. That tescoology needs to be discouraged.
Well they had 40% off a cod fish thing which I like.
Best before date 25/12.
Extreme retailing!
I was out doing shopping on christmas eve
69 cent in aldi
I was in lidl today, 99cent for the santa figures and those biscuits in a white packet in windmill shapes. Other than that, 40% off bad prices is still badly priced.
👍️ 👍️. Take note Lidl HQ!
I've two scratchcards for 30% off a chocolate santa. I wonder would Lidl take 30% off the 99c or bump back up to €1.39 lol
