So the balls-up has started since last night which makes Fairview from clontarf to Edges corner a single lane with bollards down the centre.
This will be a permanent feature and works will take 21 months.
it’ll be left like that as well.
Ah I see, so dig up the path more to add another lane to keep you happy, makes loads of sense. Maybe instead of complaining about what’s not there, be happy a bit with what is? Just a thought.
As for the electric scooter, there’s idiots evwrywhere.
keep up frank
I’m trying my best to understand your expertise in this field, please accept my humble apology.
Apology accepted mate.
Just saw multiple cars use the red cycle lane on Malahide road as a slip lane to turn left into Marino Cresent. No idea how they can't tell the difference.
I’d say they can.
Not sure what's in the water this past couple of weeks but the inbound section is being treated like a two way cycle lane a lot more. Along Fairview is particularly bad for some reason.
They knew exactly what they were doing! It's because there is no enforcement that they knew they'd get away with it!
Had a look at it this eve. Barely looks wide enough!
The funny thing is there was a different car turning correctly across the cycle lane, and I noticed them stop and I thought "that's good that they are aware they need to yield to cyclists" - but no, they were yielding to cars.
for motorists, The flashing yellow light to indicate give way needs to be done in all places or not at all
I drove past this just there tonight, and there's now barriers up, along with signage warning of pedestrians/cyclists at the Fairview Avenue corner. Don't see how it's an improvement to have the sight lines blocked by orange barriers rather than cars, but I'd guess this is a prelude to them taking the car parking spaces out and replacing them with low planting.
Pretty impressive that they're going to this length, in fairness.
Was there always no left turn coming out of the town at the Fairview strand before Gaffneys?
I find the turn left just after Gaffneys to be much more dangerous. The bikes at that patch are always travelling fast and it’s poorly lit making them very difficult to spot somethings (the new seemly universal black uniform of cyclists doesn't help either)
It does suffer from the road makers and ROWs being unclear. I know pedestrians have become oblivious, but the road marking/pathways almost encourage people to just walk out.
As far as I remember there used to be a slip road turning left at Edges corner. Much nicer now for pedestrians but still the odd car turning left illegally.
The left turn past Gaffneys is one of the new 'continuous footpaths' that give pedestrians priority. Agree it takes getting used to as a driver but I now just assume I may need to stop briefly when turning left in there.
They seem to have removed a parking spot(orange barriers) outside Gaffney's to improve left turning drivers visibility of approaching cyclists.
The continuous footpaths thing is just making it more obvious what was always the RotR anyway (that pedestrians have priority at junctions if you're turning into a minor road).
Nah it was there before the changes but as others said, much etter setup now. Those going up Pilsburgh Avenue (ie me) aretaking a left an Annsley House now, going through Marino is much slower
This thread being dead is a good thing as we know everything is finished, I miss it all the same! Last night I came out of the house and there was one of those huge mopeds in the bike lane outside Cusack's smashed up as well as a car smashed up in the middle of the road and a man lying on the ground being attended to by paramedics. When I came back there were 10 Garda cars there! Turns out it was an off duty copper who got smashed acc to a Cusack's barman, he didn't die anyway so hopefully he's ok.
The replies to this DCC tweet are exactly what you'd expect on Twitter
I used the new cycle path both heading out and back in to town again last night.
I was content to stay behind some lad (in shorts!) who was moving at a decent pace but the path really isn't wide enough to overtake especially with the various alignment changes and kerbs. You'd get stuck behind someone moseying along (which is fine) but if you do get past them, they more often than not will break the next set of red lights and you're back to square 1.
My return journey back into the city meant I didn't need to overtake anyone and made really good time. The only interaction with traffic was at the poxy gym where people still don't get it! 🤬
I also happened upon the collision scene on my way home. There were a few cars at Annesley Br preventing everything but busses & bikes from heading in so I managed to pass the scene. I saw the car but didn't see the motorbike & so I hadn't a clue what had happened given the huge number of garda vehicles at and around the scene but assumed it involved a shooting or something and that one way or another at least one person was dead. Turns out an off-duty garda was knocked down and, while I hope they are ok, I've never seen those numbers at an RTC. I'd say every on-duty garda at neighbouring stations went there.

"Please be sound" and don't break the law is pretty pathetic messaging.
Yep, but motorists and law breaking, we need to thread on egg shells….
I think you'll get better engagement with people that way unfortunately. There's no enforcement of the laws so they need to rely on people being "sound".
These people don’t give a damn.
One of the people in the replies to that DCC tweet has, pinned, a statement that he beeps at light-breaking cyclists to "shame them". The dude believes that he has an effective shame-projection device in his car, implying that shame does actually mean something to him. I think he wouldn't like to be thought of as not sound. While it's incredibly weak messaging, and rule-breakers will tend to have their self-justification ready in all circumstances, it might just tweak the conscience of those who know their behaviour is problematic. What's the alternative? "Fire ahead, we all know you won't face any consequences"?
I don't want to drag the thread off topic but people like that fella will more then likely just drive straight past the van parked in the cycle lane and not see anything wrong. He won't beep at drivers who break red lights - he probably won't even notice them doing it.
Absolutely. I'm just saying that shame is something that can be used to influence road user behaviour. And in the absence of law enforcement, that's something rather than nothing. After "Please be sound" it'll be "What would your Mam think?"
There is very little shame left out there on the roads.
Mainly just narcissists.
But motorists only drive through red lights for the first eight seconds or so. Cyclists go through red lights at any stage they want.
this is how they usually justify it but only one of these things is dangerous really
anyone know what the story is with that little bike shop near cusacks? was never open since i moved here about a year ago but the other day it looked like it was open, then yesterday it was closed. would be dead handy for me if it's open as so close.
