evening Watchies,
Just wondering if anyone knows how likely the swatch store in grafton street would have some of moonswatches in stock? And if i could just stroll in and pick one up?
Yeah, apparently they have loads of them.. well they did the last time a pal of mine was in recently.
No issues outside mission to mercury maybe. Hype is dead.
Or get one on DH gate for €15 delivered
Are you looking for a way underpriced Omega, or a way overpriced Swatch?
Yeah newly pressed the button on one in Grafton st a few weeks ago- I was underwhelmed when I put it on I’m afraid 😀
Post mania that's what everyone felt lol.
Forget the over priced and over hyped Moonswatch. Check out the Pagani Design V3 Moon Wristwatch, looks and feels so much like the original it's ridiculous. Being a homage rather than a copy just adds to its appeal.
Anyone tried the fake Moonswatches on DHGate?
Given the real ones are basically plastic Happy Meal watches I'm sure the China knock offs aren't far behind them quality wise. And they're only about twenty quid.
Eh, not sure that's a reasonable topic for discussion.
I haven't linked anything and there's been discussion of replica watches on here before…?
You should have said Moonswatch "homages"
😁
It would be more than a little ironic if Moonswatch collectors were annoyed because didn't want their collection 'sullied' by these cheap Chinese 'homages'…😁
(okay I'll shut up now!)
The sarcasm runs deep! 😁
an underpriced omega……
Yeah I got one. Chinatime on reddit usually has photos and a bit of info, i used a link from there. Got a grey moon one, boring, i know. It's definitely worth the €20,quality is fine. Chronograph works, but no idea what the 2 o'clock dial does. Definitely worth getting for 20 quid when the real ones are so overpriced for a plastic watch. I'll probably get another colour.
I just had my one land today.
Hard to believe it was so cheap.
Thought I'd stick a Nato on it for a bit of fun. Surprised to see proper spring bars.
Looking good on that strap O.
I see some degenerate modding types (hehe) are cracking these cases open to tranplant the dial and movt into bespoke stainless speedy homage cases. In mod terms is a bit incestuous to do this to what is essentially a factory homage mod already lol. It's strangely alluring, the mod that is, not incest like:)
that's a real one? not a Chinese homage ?
It's a Chinese Homage that cost me 25 euro delivered.
The one tell these have over the real ones is they're missing the mesh pattern on the inside of the crystal. There are a few other tells but this is the one you can spot right away if you ever need to authentic one.
The dial is nice enough that honestly it would look pretty well in a steel case!
I'd be interested to see how the Moonswatch stands up to everyday wear.
I know they are regarded as non-serviceable, but I'd like to know if they stand up to regular wear and tear and the odd dunking, as opposed to swimming or diving.
3bar seems low for what is essentially a plastic watch.
I've seen a few examples of that mod on Reddit and tbh? They do catch the eye.
I don't know why, particularly as I own a few mechanical chronos but I've never wanted to own a speedy. Yes they are lovely watches, the archetype but I always find my eye drawn to other watches when it comes to putting my money down.
Now that said? A mechaquartz in a steel case would certainly be a lovely ersatz speedy but, surely such a watch branded Pagani is as good an option?
Rather than just shrugging our shoulders and dismissing the Swatch cash grab as being the equivalent? Does Swatch being moneygrabbing twats mean that fakes (of the moonswatch) are now ok? If they are? Do I get a steelcased fake mission to mars or mission to the moonphase? 😂😂
*The above is a rhetorical, they aren't 😉
Also, can we call a spade a spade? None of these DHgate moon watches are "Homages" they're fakes. Let's not dance around that.
I think the big stand out here for me is seeing how offensively over priced the real Swatch version is.
On the flip side, I think these copies are actually quite under priced, if you'd shown me that whole package in person without a price attached to it I'd have assumed about €50. So it's really interesting to see, licensing aside, just how cheaply these things can be made.
And yeah I totally agree, these shouldn't be called 'homages' at all. Using that terminology more from a 'don't mention the war' perspective than actually thinking that in any way whatsoever!
Oh I agree with you on the pricing, it's insane but? It fits perfectly with the madness of watches as a hobby 😂
Price points of what are apart from very small portion of the market, mass produced trinkets who's price is determined by marketing and appeal rather than actual input costs are mad.
Careful now Banie , you’ll be labelled a watch snob with that attitude around here
My buddy very generously gifted me his unboxed Mission to Mercury (he has another, forget which, probably Moon) last night in the pub for my birthday.
Woke up today after a rake of pints wondering where it was, thankfully I handed it off to my sister who was driving!
Anyway, does anyone have a good strap recommendation? Am I mad to look at official Omega rubber straps that may be hugely expensive compared to the price of the watch?
Aim to wear this as my daily and give my 2013 Seamaster AT a break, keep for weekends, etc.
A lot of people seem to be going for decent quality NATO, such as the various Bond options, etc.
But yes, I'd tend to agree, why spend the value of the watch again on a strap.
My birthday is tomorrow and my party was two night ago (when I got the watch from my pal). Turns out the missus got her sister to pop into Grafton St in November to pick me up one of them - and got the Mercury.
So now I have two of them 😅 Couldn't make it up. Not sure if I want to go through hassle of re-sale, or just see can we send it back to Swatch in Dublin.
Just looking at strap options online and this stood out most for me
I got a 20mm Omega NATO to tide me over til I get an orange rubber one (these take 18mm)
