Sure but this is a national DRS. Theyre not floggin ebooks. Theres no buy button at the bottom of the page. Just be honest with the language around recycling. Anyway what Im saying is its actually an improvement. There was an article on re-turn.ie about Cork airport recently and the language was basically "containers recycled through our RVMs". As has been noted here numerous times thats BS. Chances are most still get buried or burned as there are still no reliable recycling stats for this scheme.
Do shop owners, say like Lidl or Aldi get compensated by the quango for their staff having to empty and look after these machines? Or do supermarkets have to just suck it up?
iirc they get 2.2c per returned item or something like that.
Also, they are likely attracting business eg bottle bought elsewhere that doesn't have RVM, so you return it to the supermarket RVM and then likely use the coupon towards purchase in that shop.
it’s messy work for them
Like Boris Johnson's over-ready Brexit deal?
Unfortunately it took 3 years to peheat the oven.
Went to the Re-Turn machine today. Out of order yet again. Was told that it won't be fixed until the new year.
Jesus fucking Christ, what an absolute shambles.
🙄
So all these fellas with trolleys full of plastic bottles, where are they getting them?
That's ok because our esteemed ex Minister will soon be on the telly advising us not to use RVM machines over the holidays as it will be very busy and they will be full!
Did you do a manual return?
I noticed this too lately.
Less containers needing a second run to go through.
Even slightly wonky pick ups from other people's littering.
Bins in public buildings (hospitals, colleges, state buildings) or private workplaces without the people or culture or sometimes facilities to have a separate bin for various items and/or a process in place to manage them.
Someone on here got talking to one of the black bag men. He collects them from a bin in a shopping centre. Where mostly young people just bin their empties, rather than going looking for an RVM so they can get their 15 cent voucher to spend in Tesco.
🙄🙄
Don't worry. Will never happen. The other parties saw the routing the Greens got in the last election.
Its the only thing that might put some pressure on the producers to come up with a viable solution to reduce the use of these items.....
Everything increases , it's a given, only a matter of time.
Is it possible to sell returnable cans/bottles, if you had 500 worth, and can't be bothered to bring them to machine, would they sell for 250?
I seriously doubt you'd find a buyer at that price. There's a lot of work, and transport, required.
An interesting proposition.
If they were the under 500ml containers it would amount to 3,300+ you'd need to return.
So if that made you €250 tax free would someone have a go.
Probably.
I'll give you 100. But they have to be clean and dry.
"Hey everyone, want to play Charades or Monopoly or Trivial Pursuit now that we've finished our Christmas dinner?"
"No, Papa. We want to play 'Track Your Re-Turns'!!!"
"YAY!!!" says everyone.
🤪
Of course, the biggest disgrace from this whole debacle is that since February, I haven't been able to buy Tanora! I know Cork people think you could only ever get it in Cork, but I've been getting it for years in Kildare. But not since all this Re-Turn malarkey! What's the story?
Maybe some of our Cork correspondents can tell us if it's still available to them.
the number of junkies and assorted scumbags going through public bins in the locality here pulling out bottles and leaving the surroundings full of general rubbish they are not of the mind to return is now for the last few months, a weekly occurrence that I witness. Vermin, it’s not good for the environment as they are leaving the surrounding area like a tip after them..
what exactly does the machine read /measure in order for a container or can be successfully processed apart from reading the bar code and maybe the recycling logo? be nice yeti yeti yeti what do you think? I turned something here and maybe recycling logo? Eg.
(1) does it weigh the can/ bottle also - rejected if below or above a certain weight
(2) does it detect a level of diet/soil and reject accordingly
(3) does it detect the shape and reject if ‘ over mangled’ even though the bar code is intact/very readable
(4 ) will it reject a can/ bottle if a can /bottle is used that is not in the scheme - no bar code cum logo - but has a perfectly readable bar code and recycling logo from another - badly mangled but very flat - can / bottle of the same brand stuck onto it?
I am intrigued as to how these machines actually work
Some details here.

The link provided by @dxhound2005 answers your questions.
I can confirm that in relation to No.4 a barcode removed from a flattened can and sellotaped onto a non scope can will pay out.
Another poster here said they did it and I was sceptical so I tried it and it worked.
Re-Turn are making too much money to care about the environment.
Return are only making money if you DONT bring them back.
You pay the deposit and someone needs to use it to get refunded.
Which is why I crush my cans and bottles before putting them in my green bin.
I dont think the vast majority are recycling 100 per cent of every plastic or can they buy. It all adds up.
Genious!
