she was actually by a stock bull
isn’t it amazing how stock bulls by international sires are leaving stock worth almost 1000 more than Irish bred ebi bulls
there was no value there today for a chancer like me anyway. big money for most of them. my problem is i dont think years ahead and i dont think paying 2500+ for an animal is value for money. i can understand the cow family and cow builder argument but you seen there today animals "calved ten days and lying on cubicles" still making big money
nothing wrong with stock bulls!!!!
trade for any sort of quality calved heifers and cows is going to be very hot.tb is leaving fair holes in herds ….throw in lads that didn’t do well with sexed semen and more use of beef bulls etc
How many did you sell. That's mighty money, I hope they have luck
What are cows still in milk empty making
Calf price is mad atm too
1000 plus and more depending on how well tgeee milking …..cull cow trade on fire so that puts high floor on cows empty still milking
last sale was more back to reality. Maybe no boats going or lads not want to feed calves over Christmas. Be interesting to see what the new year will bring
Was up in Dublin today, and seen 4 continental livestock trucks on the way up and 3 on the way home, the factories will be begging for cattle next year considering what's left the country this year
Like the calves the spring trade will be interesting. If the milk price holds they will be dear. I'd imagine there will still be plenty of surplus stock for sale.
Ya, it's amazing why people over pay for stock like that. Fools and their money.
That's the stuff I'm feeding
No calves in Ardee on Tuesday
We've only 1 angus bull left to sell, stock bulls be hard got by May I'd say. Lads buying now to have for then.
Any idea of cost?
another 2,500 leaving on a boat around the 10th of jan I believe
I was in Tirlan HQ last night for a presentation to my partners family. A fine spot. Wouldn't mind working in there myself.
dry cows got out of the shed yesterday and after rounding them up was very happy with weight that they had put on ,same cant be said for the lad waddling around after them.
58ish for 20kg bag. 50gram is meant to be the does. Was told to give 100 at start. Cow getting that silage have improved with the binder
few culls out today
Milked this morning and sent off
Imagine if these guys had a barrier that you could move in manually it would be a big step forward. It looks like 50 years ago in Ireland.
See that.cant see massive overall savings by the time scrapping and extra slurry spread is all added up.that said i find alot of the english grasstec s vids very interesting .
Grasstec yards in the UK seem more orientated towards hardship than their Irish counterparts.
Roofed silos is another theme
Anyone selling 2nd hand parlour troughs for a 2-foot 6 parlour?
I’m struggling to find any and was quoted €200 today for new ones. I need 24 and I’m already over budget so finding another €5,000 somewhere will be some struggle. Even getting 10-12 2nd hand would be great.
Realistically, are there any other options for feeding and holding the cows in place in the parlour?
I have those individual ones in my parlour. Some people just have one long continuous trough, sometimes built with concrete blocks and half a large wavin pipe. i wouldn't see anything wrong with it really.
nothing wrong with roofed silage pits ….think of extra storage you’d have by not having to collect what comes off pits …doubles up as storage shed /aial housing when empty
Plenty for sale in kerry and limerick,dd is your friend ,just make sure they are ss
Alot of the English systems require labour. Plenty of lads scraping cubicle sheds not big enough parlours, alot of straw bedding. Is it just that they don't own the farm and not spend the money on infrastructure. You don't see many one man units either like the models here
if you’re going to go with a straight trough you need a cranked rump rail. You won’t be able to keep a giddy heifer in place otherwise and you’ll have cows bullying shy cows /heifers and taking there meal
