New Munster chat thread folks. warning deserved there. https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=109477571#post109477571
Some early Christmas cheer, Ben Whitehouse is the ref for Friday night.
Unfortunately the position where most players look to be coming to an end is the front row with; Archer, Ryan, Kilcoyne, Salanoa, Buckley and McSweeney. Outside of the front row I'd imagine only Hurley, Daly, Coombes and Gibbons are in trouble.
yeah was thinking the same, few lads time might be coming to an end
TBH he shouldn't have gotten his contract extension (and neither should Cian Hurley). It's a sign of the malaise behind the scenes. He's never fit and it's no surprise that he's injured again.
Isn’t Liam Coombes just back from injury-terrible luck for the lad.
When you’re injured that much you must be weighing up retiring or Munster may have to make a difficult call on him and a few other injury prone lads.
Johnny may had something similar iirc, best of a bad situation for us
At least PFP is back & hopefully Murray not too far behind
3 to 6 months for Casey depending on severity bit that is far more positive then a ACL INJURY
I would read it as absolutely good news for Casey. Worst case would be ligament damage.
In the very short term, Ulster are absolutely haunted with injuries as well.
Sometimes it's just really bad luck. Stormers have had similar these last two seasons.
Maybe someone will take their chance and break into the first squad.
I was just questioning it in terms of managing his workload on a return from a long lay off. He doesn't suffer many muscle injuries that I can recall.
The continuous injuries at the club isn't normal. The absolute absurdly long return times also is not normal. Anyone calling it bad luck at this point is wrong imo.
You'd hope having the lads in from the irfu recently will put competent practices in place.
That injury update is probably the worst scenarios you could expect for Casey & Abrahams. The timings of Murray's is terrible now that Casey is gone
Well maybe if his previous injury was a muscle injury you might have a point.
But it wasn't, it an eye injury. And he had surgery to clear out a niggly knee injury during that time.
Not sure you can put that on the S&C team.
I'm talking about a muscle injury. Kleyns one. Coming back from time out and he suffers what would appear to be a serious muscle injury. Eventually you need to look further than bad luck.
I jinxed it….
While there have been muscle injuries, the vast majority have been impact injuries.
Just look at the injuries from Friday night. Very little the S&C can do about those.
Lads, could ye post a link to the squad update in future instead of just randomly talking about it's contents?

At least with Casey is a meniscus injury and not a cruciate, so he may be able to get back later this season. The Kleyn injury sound ominous though, hopefully maybe Edogbo can get back early in the new year.
Who had Kleyn becoming snyman esque with his injury record on their bingo card?
A tragicomedy at this stage.
In all seriousness would a thigh injury suggest another S&C triumph?
Irfu have jettisoned attempts the fix the front row problem with Niqs. Only alternative is try and develop them.
A slimani type signing would help
We've had the front-row problem for quite awhile now.
Going back to the CC SF in 2016/17 season, we still have 4 of the same players 6 front-row from the 23 that day in our the squad. When you compare what we were up against even then, it's easy see we were up against it. Now those players are 8 years older.
It's been the obvious weakness in our squad for ages, and as much as I've enjoyed Archer's form in the last season or 2, we really need to start seeing some change there.
Munster

our squad it seems are made up of players who are A: Up and coming B: On the way down C: Good (being topped up by IRFU Contracts) but not good enough for central contracts. Crowley and Casey you have to imagine are on top ups from IRFU, if they were on CC it takes some salary pressure off to spend elsewhere, or keep some other players. Look at Carberry as an example…as soon as IRFU decided that he was a busted flush he lost his IRFU top up and we cant afford him and he's off to Bordeaux, who are 2nd in top 14 and joint top of their champions cup pool. This will continue to happen.
like jackman tbh and lot of what he pointed out is true …..question is how the Munster branch and Irfu have let us regress so far ….the big problem in our squad is in the forwards ….ww have a good few near end of road ,few constantly injured and few call a spade a spade ….not good enough to win us trophies ……half backs also now a problem we have one top quality 10 who is low on confidence and not playing well …but to give him his dues he will come good ….after him a huge step down in quality ….with Casey’s injury looking long term we’ve an issue there as well ……from a proud team/province who’s team and previous success was built around a strong pack and half backs we are a long way off
watched the game, poor result, Castres were down to 14 men for 30mins. We have a serious problem in the front row, as someone said above where are our props/big ball carrying forwards gone. Still plenty of lads playing rugby week in week out for clubs/schools..why are Ireland as a whole struggling to develop players in these positions. Never feel when we are near the oppositions line that we have the bulk to punch a few holes. Met Jager and Killer recently after a game, jesus I'm bigger than the two of them, but also 46 now…people talking about crowleys miss for touch, yes was an error, but its not like our lineout was bullet proof and people saying we just needed to go through a few phases, we were likely to go backwards with our ball carriers. Ulster is the next test, thats our level unfortunately at the moment and they are getting hockeyed week in week out in europe but at least re-building, we need some kind of result there, but Casey will be a loss for the season which will pile more pressure on Crowley.
gob and the other thing comes to mind. Jackman shoots from the hip and does not really think through these things. Yes. There may be a few within the squad who are on the margin but that is the same with every team. The team is not a million miles away from and run injury permitting.
So jackman bullshitting and bluffing with no meaningful action. No surprises there
Just reading Jack man in the indo & says there should be a real clear out of the squad.
All fine to say that but replace them with who exactly
Articles like that bug me when there is no viable alternatives given
It's a LaR raid.
i think when rountree got his last orders. Bordeaux signed Macnamara up until 2027.
I wonder could we tempt Noel Mc to Munster
Did Munster not win the league with bad props 18 months ago?
