So the balls-up has started since last night which makes Fairview from clontarf to Edges corner a single lane with bollards down the centre.
This will be a permanent feature and works will take 21 months.
I don't mind anybody suggesting it as long as they know it's never going to happen. 😁
I noticed they have a new trip counter being installed at the end of the inbound route, beside Connolly station.
Don't like hearing how idiotic and poor quality these one way paths are do you?
Everyone who uses this cycle path now sees what a poor design they are.
That's great. Some data to shut up the Facebook morons who claim the lanes are empty.
Nah. Just think talk about adding an additional lane is pointless.
We can all see the flaws with the cycle path. And while it might seem idiotic, there's also a big issue with cyclists not bothering to use it correctly.
The only issue I can see, is that it won't show people who turn off at Newcomen, and take the path along the canal there.
But I'm sure there are counters around there, just no display for them.
Important to learn lessons from each project and apply them to the next project.
You should get in touch with the civil engineers to let them know how wrong they were…
No we don't. Use it every day and love it
I have! And I believe various cycling organisations have as well.
Unfortunately it isn't really the civil engineers who make these decisions. They can only work within the constraints of what their management allow them to do.
Really it is a political issue, they are the ones who have the power to make the decisions to make adequate space for high quality bike lanes.
If we want good cycle lanes, we have to pressure our politicians into building that.
The engineering teams only give you possible options and recommendations. Politics is the deciding factor. The bus connects designs are also sub standard, not because of engineering blunder but because the politics still supports the motor industry faithfully.
When DCC engineers were asked about the problem with cyclists using the path in the wrong direction, they just said that doesn't happen. 😂
Unbelievable.
Brand new cycle lane, and the default thing to do is complain about it. The privilege meter is broken after that.
Right…so it is the DCCs fault that some cyclists decide to go the wrong way, is it?
Does anyone know why the cycle lights go red when there is a flashing amber for left turning vehicles, despite it still being green for traffic going straight? Kind of defeats the purpose of having those new junction arrangements.
Like I said, according to DCC, it doesn't happen.
And as mentioned here previously, if the path had been designed better, it wouldn't be happening.
What's worse is They don't even pay Road tax eh?
I think there's some light sequences that still need to be adjusted.
The section from Edge's corner to the malahide road is an experience alright. It's impossible for cars to see you when they are turning up Fairview Avenue, the bus stop is froth with danger as people just hop off buses straight on to the bike lane, then you have the footbridge section which seems to be a favourite for walkers and finally the turn up by Joey's school.
The safer option is to just cycle on the road along there.
Rather than cycle on the road, just slow down a little. I've had a few close calls on that section, and now I just anticipate it, so take it a bit easier.
it's the same at Booterstown Dart station, only there there's 2 sets of cycle lights; one for going straight on the road and another for going onto the cycle lane in the park. The lights for park go green, along with the pedestrian lights and straight ahead arrow but cars but bafflingly the cycle lights for the road stay red! I keep meaning to email DLR about it but if there's a similar setup on this new lane maybe it's deliberate? It makes no sense though…
There’s been a taxi rank beside Bram Stoker Park for decades. However, due to FREENOW and all the other taxi apps, there hasn’t been a taxi sitting there for years. DCC still planned one in and built it. Also, not a single lamppost was adapted for electric charging.
It’s like it was planned decades ago.
I do slow down at that section but it's dicey a long there all the same. It's just a poorly designed section unfortunately.
And how could this path have been designed better, in your expert opinion?
Don't open that can of worms. Cycle paths aren't roads I guess?
As everyone keeps mentioning. Two way paths both sides of the road. 😂
I've already had a bad crash with a príck going the wrong way on an electric scooter. And I cycle it with small kids, and believe that people who cycle the wrong direction, also aren't that aware of their surroundings, so worry about that.
First dig up of the new surface, probably was perfect for a month?
They're doing the same down at Annesley bridge as well, but it was never perfect, they've been doing bits and pieces all over the place. I assume that the ESB cables are going all over the place.
Well those tiles all matched up a week ago
Its a rough enough finish there esp if leaving the bike lane to loop left around the pole and cross into Fairview park.
Is there an email address to contact engineers/DCC about these minor issues?
Overall the final finish has been alot better than I expected as many predicted they wouldn't have it done before the end of November.
