I suppose time will tell.
Which cars contain hairpin motors?
I read before about a Model S with 1.2 million kilometres on the clock. It had gone through 3 motors which is mightily impressive for an EV of it's vintage.
I didn't see a thread about this- the new Toyota sport crossover concept looks like it could be a real head turner.
Let's hope the real thing turns out to be close to the concept. This is by far one of the best looking EV concepts I've seen in a long time.
There hasn't been much news about it since December 2023 though, that seemed to be the last big press release but there hasn't been much since then- has anyone heard anything else about it?

Its rare that concept cars look like the final delivery car but it might be an interesting hybrid when they deliver it. I cant see them delivering a good EV for another decade or so, assuming they are still around then.
I sat into a Renault Scenic BEV today, well impressed
From a local town Facebook group. Those that had power were taking cash only as card machines were down. So diesel does not work in a power cut... i noticed some petrol stations had tape across entrances as they had no power so pumps would not work. The buildings themselves looked empty, the staff may have been told it would be a few hours until power is restored.
Why is this on the random EV thread?
I have 2 electric cars and I could not charge them last night as I had a power cut.
So electric not entirely great either in a storm situation.
Rules are the same, charge up or fuel up before the storm
True. I think the weather warning came late enough though.
Unless you have solar
Not great at night though 😂
Well, most people had probably gotten the message by the time they'd arrived home Friday evening, so start the car charging right away instead of waiting for the night rate.
It's obviously more expensive but you could probably get over 100km of range on board before the storm hits
No, not great at night😅. Pretty good today though.
I wouldn't have thought you could charge a car via panels alone during a power cut
You could just go to a public charger.
Would they be protected from the power outage? They are within 1km of my house so could have been impacted too.
I can, no problem at all. Could have put about 100km of charge in to it today.
You'll have to bypass the fireman switch to get power from the panels during an outage
If you've a socket connected to a backup power output of your inverter you can use a granny cable to charge the car from the home battery without the panels. Obviously only useful as a last resort
Alternatively you can install a changeover switch to power the whole house from the backup power supply
Do you have a changeover switch installed? Do you know if one could be retrofitted?
You must have a decent array if you could put 16kwh or so into car while also running the house
Who knows Power cuts can take one side of a street and not the other.
I know, I have essential loads permanent back up and a whole board changeover. I just limit the Zappi to 20 amps.
Ya, you can retrofit it but finding someone willing to do it is another thing. Your original installer would be the first port of call.
I have 26 panels, only 14 see direct sunlight at this time of year though.
Regarding solar installation during outage - what's needed it's called EPS switch, it can be either manual or automatic. I am myself considering one installed, as any named storm that hit West coast within last 2 or 3 years left me without power for 6 to 80 hours. Electrician who installed my solar PV system said he would be able to retrofit one at any time.
You're lucky your installer is willing to do it, many are not.
Check this out.
+ it can use EV Home charger and charge in 1 hr, amazing. It can also be charged via mains and Solar PV.
The power has gone out a lot here this year and it's been frustrating as we both work from home, between planned maintenance and faults, only the recent storm knocked out the power this year most were faults and maintenance and faults which seem to be getting more common.
Anyway, I'm finding it hard to see if the EV input is Type 2 which is the standard here ?
It's a great price on Aliexpress !
I know I'd be better off getting a batter backup via Irish supplier but the cost is mad.
Of course I could just get a petrol generator and not have to worry about capacity of a battery because once I have petrol I'd have power that's a key difference but it would be cool to charge on the night rate and use it during the day.
In the event of a power cut I could keep the Well pump, septic tank pump and the pellet stove and fridge going and of course the internet.
Don't have an EV yet but our solar company fitted a changeover switch for us. It got its first test during the storm and worked like a dream
Price is sus. The bull**** detector is tingling.
I can hardly buy the cells for a equivalent 15kWh house battery for that price.
That looks brilliant. If it can charge from the 7.3kw CP it would be fantastic. Hard to believe it would be free shipping from Spain being so heavy.
Could someone with more intelligence than me ask the supplier some questions to see if they reply ,and how competent their answers are.
That's very suspect, when you read down to the details it seems it's the r600 for that price not the r4000.
