So the balls-up has started since last night which makes Fairview from clontarf to Edges corner a single lane with bollards down the centre.
This will be a permanent feature and works will take 21 months.
So now that the cycleway has officially opened, has all the temporary barriers and related construction material been removed from the site? Apologies I haven't been down that way in a while
No they're still fecking around. Part of the route going into town wasn't open last night. I can see then continuing work for months.
Seriously? They had an official opening without it actually being finished?? Definitely electioneering in that case.
I heard they had Fairview dug up today causing traffic chaos. Compounded by a single lane over on East Wall road, while they were removing the crane on the East Wharf buildings.
I have seen Naoise many times on his bike in the area while I’m passing on mine. Shock horror, FG people get on bikes and PT too!! I thought that was only the few percentage Green voters!
I feel a bit deflated now that it's finished. I think you need to jump on the Royal Canal greenway thread now. 😂
Aren’t they going to start digging up the new fuel line from the docks to the airport next?
Hopefully they're progressing the plans for the Amiens Street→The Custom House section next. That will link up nicely to the cycle lanes being built along the Liffey. Will also fix the mess that is the bus stops beside the Connolly Luas stop!
I’ve mentioned it before and I’m sure I’ll mention it again but who in DCC has shares in traffic light companies? They’re springing up like weeds everywhere…….
Those bus stops aren’t really a problem any more since they moved the 14 & 15 back to use the 27/151 stop.
That left the bay adjacent to the LUAS stop to the GAI and Bus Éireann regional commuter services and put an end to 14/15 users having to walk between parked buses.
Yeah what the hell is going on with that? Will make it so much quicker for me to get to phibs and drumcondra, and great for people heading west coming off the greenway that starts at the convention centre
It's been slowed down as they're simultaneously laying down new high voltage electricity lines. The routes of these lines were only announced in January 2024 after Greenway works had started.
I'm not sure if they've fully added the new lines in this section, or just provisions for it. Let's hope they don't have to dig up the whole route again. EirGrid have works slated to continue until 2029 on the wider upgrade.

Anyone got a video of the cycle path trip. Im going towards Eastpoint from city next week
I'm not up to scratch with the project but does this mean it won't open for years now?
No the section between Drumcondra and Phibsboro is 90% open, save for a section of the cycle path closest to Drumcondra (like 100m), where only the pedestrian path is open on the rail line side. The rest is supposed to be finished by April or so next year.
At best EirGrid are installing the actual wires along the entire length. Where the bridges and ramps are, they're definitely putting in what they need to avoid digging them up again later. On other sections, it's possible they're just installing additional piping which can house wires later.
My mate works in EirGrid and he mentioned their plans in 2023. I'll ask him what's the latest!
It's the north strand to far side of croker aide I'm looking forward to most
Health warning but the comments on this post. It's truly amazing how warped people are when it comes to the Greens, thinking they're responsible for everything. That former big brother candidate is on every post about this scheme whining about how much it has ruined his life. I wonder where they'll aim their frustrations now? Can't wait for the malahide road to be torn up for bus connects, if that ever happens.

Even more annoying that the video, that was clearly shot to be in landscape format, was converted to portrait so I then have a massive waste of screen real estate away from the centre of the screen!!!! That grinds my gears.
The left turn up Fairview Avenue is an accident waiting to happen. What numpty decided it was a good idea to put parking spaces in the exact position you need to have visibility of cyclists coming along the road? Someone is going to get hurt there sooner rather than later.
They really should have planted a lot of trees between Connolly and the Five Lamps.
Looks so bare.
When did the new traffic lights in Fairview go in? I hadn't noticed those being constructed at all until I was being driven home on Wednesday and they were active.
With the new pedestrian crossings, is there any plan to take down the footbridge?
I can't see it getting nearly as much use as before.
And please don't tell me it has some kind of heritage status 😆
they're really handy if you're coming out of the park sometimes. i'd say they're driving the hard presseders MENTAL when they can see the foot bridge in front of them.
It was originally going to be taken out in the first plans, but there was an uproar over it's removal.
😭🤦♂️
Not a chance! Locals and other assorted NIMBY's wouldn't allow removal of the bridge or any trees in that area.
uproar why? because traffic would be slowed by pedestrian lights? it's a horrible eyesore and not even there that long, there was a different one when i was in school there.
i doubt we'll get many "what about the disableds" concerns when they're moaning about the new crossing either.
I'd agree it probably could be taken out now that there is the pedestrian crossing in place. However I'd say that with the two years of disruption that there was in Fairview as part of this project there probably would be very little appetite in the area for another construction project, however quick in might be.
also i'm not sure most motorists will understand that the pedestrian crossing isn't really going to affect their journey time in the long run, even if they get stuck at the lights for 30 seconds or so.
I've been cycling the inbound route for years. It's great but would be better if it was wider and 2 way. I'd definitely be in favour of a wider 2 way (on the park side), rather than 2 narrow 1 ways.
I cycled the outbound route for the first time last week and going through Fairview was a bit like trying to cycle through the opening scene of Superman III.

I think we need a one week ban for anyone suggesting sections are adapted to 2 way paths. 😂
