I think it will be FF/FG again with god knows who. Hopefully a left wing party
It will be November 15th
There is no merit in connecting ports by motorway. Almost no port traffic in this country comes in at one port to leave by another.
The N20 traffic is not higher because so many people divert via other routes because safety record of that road is so bad. Which is why TII are progressing the M20 scheme.
The same cannot be said for Cork-Waterford-Rosslare, which is why they are not building a motorway there
He knows not to even ask for it. Whatever he gets will be kept very quiet except in the run up to the next election.
Yeah but that resignation was because of his lies about a rival candidate, he's surely learnt his lesson on slander by now
Are Sinn Féin in government now?
I wonder. Will FG seek to rehabilitate him and his reputation? They tried to sneak McGahon in under the radar after all, until it blew up in their faces.
Considering their defence of McGahon was no criminal conviction; and Lowry has one - no.
I know you want them to so you can criticise them for it, but they won't.
That said, they shouldn't even be negotiating with him, FF have done it before too.
No. He won't be part of the government. He might have an agreement we don't hear about and will vote for them, but from the outside. He'll still sit in opposition benches is my guess.
It's all very odd if you ask me. A simple redline, 'we won't negotiate with him' would have been the ethical way to deal with it. Sitting down with him in the first place is rehabilitation of a kind.
Not yet but MLMD is negotiating at present
No , but by having both the SDs and Labour beside them on the opposition benches makes it harder for SF to claim to be "the" opposition. Labour and SDs will have their "shadow" ministers as well diluting the SF talking points.
SF are more likely to lose support to Labour/SD than they are to FF/FG so politically having all three of them vying for air-time in opposition works in favour of FF and FG.
He will definitely get a new extension.
I can't believe he is leading the negotiations for the Independents.
Unless one of the other 2 big parties opens the negotiating door with her those negotiations are unlikely to be to form a govt. More likely she is looking for Taoiseach votes from SD and Labour akin to how PBP backed her in 2020
I was responding to a poster who claimed
there is noreal and viable option at present.
He doesn't seem to know much about politics in fairness if he thinks SF are in govt
FF did it in 1997. It didn't rehabilitate him.
The general acceptance of government laziness and inefficiency is a weirdly Irish trait.
No it isn't.. Not even remotely.
Name a country ANYWHERE that doesn't hold that general perception of their Government?
It's not for FF to rehabilitate him, that would be his former party.
This really sounds like you're constructing something to argue against.
I think you'll find that is a fait accompli.
Yes, I do know you have a history of trying to rearrange stuff so it fits your pre-constructed argument.
Pre=constructed? He was only appointed yesterday.
How would they try to 'rehabilitate' him? Does striking a deal with him for his support in return for addressing various issues in his constituency constitute rehabilitation? Well a previous FF-led government has already done that; can someone be re-rehabilitated?
So we can't be critical of this? Is that what you guys are saying here?
Are we talking about Lowry here?
Because we have been crying out for reform in this country for years and the rehabilitation of Lowry shouldn't be a discussion point. New powers for SIPO should be! Passing the reform bill should be front and centre but never gets discussed. There is corruption throughout our political system.
I sincerely doubt that he's factoring that in. If anything he'd prefer to keep SF as the main opposition party as he thinks they have lots of weak points for FFFG to batter them with.
No, he'd prefer to form a government with the Independents because their demands are going to be far less than Labour or Soc Dems both in terms of ministerial jobs and in national policy.
Soc Dems have issued a list of 5 items that would cost tens of Billions to implement. At the same time you could buy off an Independent with tens of Millions in projects for their constituency.
No, but you're being unreasonable in two ways here, first by attacking FG in advance over stuff they seem very unlikely to do like appointing Lowry to cabinet and second by portraying cutting a side deal with Lowry as an unprecedented new low in Irish politics. It would be fair enough to say if FG wanted to set a high moral standard they could rule out dealing with Lowry as there are plenty of other Independent options…
And where exactly did I say it's an 'unprecedented low'?
I asked a question about Lowry and would he get a ministry and immediately the handwaving began.
If one is willing to accept poll toppers who are convicted criminals supporting Mary Lou as Taoiseach, why would one have a problem having one support MM as Taoiseach?
Seems an oddly precariously grounded stance to me
Healy-Raes have priorities. The top three are:
