Wicklow Co Co doing lots of patching the last few weeks around Roundwood, so lots of random spots of fine gravel.
Wicklow CoCo should be towed out to the mid-Atlantic and cut adrift. It's usually well into Spring time before some of those gravel patches bed in or are dispersed.
Posted this on the other thread too but is Cruagh road going up to Viewpoint/Kilakee accessible by bike? Closed till 30 November according to Google Maps.

Cycle lanes of DLR full of cable ties this morning. I know we say this every election, but really should be party identifiers on all cable ties for posters (if we're not going to ban the bloody things).
At the very least, there should be a fine for all cable ties found, to be levied on all of the candidates pro rata to the number of posters erected, with refund of application fees withheld and fines deducted from them until paid. Too much hassle to administer though (turkeys voting for Christmas) so will never be any change.
I don't know if it is weather related or just a coincidence but two of us from the same club came down on separate club spins this week. We have both ended up with hip fractures, his a lot more serious than mine. In both cases it was as a result of front wheel slides on what looked like dry corners but which may have had a very thin film of moisture on them. Two weeks ago we would have been wary of black ice but overnight condensation can be as dangerous. Be careful out there folks!

Could it have been oil? I came down at a corner before due to oil leaking from a vehicle.
I came a cropper myself on straight run out of Garristown towards Duleek on Sunday morning...It was black ice and was lucky to escape with a few cuts and bruises. A passing jogger told me he had seen someone come off their bike earlier that morning in the same spot. Never came off while going straight before (without some obstacle being responsible) Sorry to hear about the injuries. Speedy recovery to you both

Yes very close to there I was on the Ard Cath road on a straight section (don't know the area particularly well). I jumped back up out of embarrassment as the jogger saw me topple 😳
Possibly - I've certainly noticed and sometimes smelt diesel spills on roads but not on this occassion. A friend suggested that the residue from spraying ice can be slippy but I think they mainly use salt grit in Dublin.
i wonder was it salt which had not washed off the road fully?
Wicklow CC are busy with the chipping machine again. The road from Ashford to Roundwood is chipped between around Ashford Studios to the reservoir - quite a fine gravel being used on this one, might actually be a decent job when they're finished but treacherous at the moment. Also the (much less travelled) road near Dunganstown Church & Castle.
a question rather than a warning - on a road i find myself on relatively frequently, and which is in need of TLC, there are the words 'high' and 'low' with arrows, sprayed on a section of it, and repeated intermittently. might that be a sign of pending resurfacing?
for those in NCD, if you were on the swords-ratoath road heading towards ratoath, it's the left hand turn immediately after kettles.
More Wicklow gravel news - the road from Laragh to Oldbridge/Lough Dann has been chipped at either end, both of which are fairly steep descents so watch out. Also the road that goes past the Wicklow GAA centre of excellence (yes it exists!) above Rathdrum, though this was already a shite road.
Meant to pop this in here yesterday evening. For those of you in Kildare, tar and chips down between the Kilmoney junction, and the top of Boston Hill. They seem to have used about 4 times as much chipping as needed.
Movement of vehicles seems to have dragged loose chips to the bottom of Boston Hill, so careful on descents
My intention was to head to Ardclough this evening and head up Boston Hill, its a fair drag anyways without an inch of moving gravel 🤔

@secman most of your north/south blue line is the boundary with the Boston townland so it's easy to see how it was named.

Ah yes, Red lane, that seemingly brutal hill until you go up the adjacent Green lane which makes a mockery of it. Don't know Kings lane, but if it is third in order in that list, not entirely sure I want to ;)
