I think it will be FF/FG again with god knows who. Hopefully a left wing party
It will be November 15th
Limerick county had a PAW candidate. He runs for everything but never gets far.
Mostly does it as an advertisement for the charity Limerick Animal Welfare
Tge O’Murchu newly elected TD in Donegal still rattling on about change.
There were at least two. Seen a lady's name mentioned too yesterday
….
Yeah SF on about talking to other parties who campaigned for change, they seem to think ~60 odd seats is a significant block.
But that includes LAB and SD who were both open to going in with FFG.
It was probably poor strategy by FG.
They had no incumbent and ran a completely inexperienced albeit well known single candidate.
FF on the other hand had a high profile, popular* incumbent government minister and gave her a few geographically sperated running mates, to transfer to and from.
And one of those running mates got the last seat,
Then again there may not have been enough FPV for two FG candidates.
It's not a very FG friendly constituency, it's always had a "nationalist/anti treaty" streak with FF and SF being strong, and the two HRs are from a gene pool FF family also.
*I know this place loves to hate on government TDs and especially female government TDs, and especially female government TDs that may not be that 'hip", but Norma Foley has done well at Education and is a popular minister.
I imagine FF will be happier with a rotating Taoiseach when the gap between them and FG has resulted in their combined seats leaving them in a much stronger position in finding numbers to get over the 87 required.
Both FF & FG being level in the high 30s would have left it a lot more difficult to form a stable government.
Got a bit emotional hearing Roderic O'Gorman getting in. He deserves it after the portfolio he's had over the last five years and all the abuse, much of it just veiled homophobia.
It was a very tough weekend for the Greens but it's much nicer to rebuild with one TD than zero.
What have Foley's achievements been as education minister?
That's a lazy observation. Cian O'Callaghan is ex Labour, but I'm not sure if any of their other elected reps are now.
Who's to say that a difficult decision will cause the party to fall apart?
Fionan Sheehan talking about this now. They're a debating society according to him with no intention of entering government.
Rory Hearne used to be in Labour (and People Before Profit). Roisin and Catherine Murphy too, the founders of the party.
Ministers don't have to have "achievements" to be good at their jobs or be popular with the electorate.
But what has she done as education minister to distinguish her from a bad one?
Ministers (or anything for that matter) aren't just "good" by declaring them to be so.
Helen McEntee case in point. I'm not sure she has ever said anything interesting in her whole political career.

Navigated COVID and it's impact on education.
There are good industrial relations in education at the moment.
I don't know much about education but I don't notice many negative headlines in the media about the state of education either.
There's a massive lack of secondary teachers. There's severe localised issues with lack of capacity which censuses give you prior knowledge of occurrence.
She has kept LC grades inflated artificially high for 4 years after Covid just to save her own skin. That's not negating the impact of Covid, it's just pretending it never happened.
Good industrial relations? There's a teachers' protest ongoing as we speak:
Teachers to protest next week over 'rushed' changes planned for Leaving Cert
She's also been disastrous for the Irish language, with the number of exemptions exploding under her watch and the first recorded decline in the number of students in Irish language education.
I suppose I'll credit her for the very important "Gaeltacht School" certification whereby schools in the Gaeltacht were awarded Gaeltacht School status. Presumably these schools in the Gaeltacht were unaware that they were Gaeltacht Schools before that.
When the jobs are given out, there will be a lot more parity than some people would think.
Rotating Taoiseach for sure, and some of the bigger jobs going to FG as well as FF.
It couldn't just be that he was crap at his job , no has to be "homophobia".
I assume you don't have school going kids!
That is what happens in a coalition Francie. A bit of give and take.
SF should have taken note.
If they talked to the SD's, and Labour people may have given them more support. But SF was too arrogant. That is not me saying that. Those words were uttered by the SD's and Labour.
TBH something has to be done about so called Gael Scoils. Now they are turning into elitist schools. It is being used as a method to manage access to schools in Urban area. They are being used to exclude non nationals and children from deprived backgrounds fomrom being allowed into these school.
What "has to be done"? Have them convert to english medium education…?
Si you are happy that they are used as a method to provide an elitist education system
Is that a question/reply for me ?
My niece and nephew both went to a gaelscoil for both primary and secondary school (both in college now). The secondary school is a deis school, I'm not sure if the primary school was. The primary school in built up suburb, the secondary school in city.
There were people in their school from primary school who were from non Irish backgrounds.
He said much of it veiled homophobia and he's right notwithstanding I'd shed no tears if he had lost his seat.
She must have done enough that she got back in in Kerry. If she wasn't popular there she wouldn't have got in. She got a good vote so not 10,000 voters in Kerry giving her a number 1 are idiots.
I wouldn't be putting the voters of kerry up on a pedestal for making the best choices when it comes to who they've elected over the years...
