I walk to a few different shops about three days a week. Then I've a few pints on the way home using the money I've saved. On a good day and if my bags are heavy I can afford a taxi and still have saved a few bob.
shops I use are on route to places I’m travelling to anyway and never go out of my way to visit supermarkets, usually where there’s a Lidl there’s an Aldi close by
Last week I was passing Tesco and picked up 4 half legs of lamb for roughly €20 👍🏻
Some people don't even own a car!
Aren't most supermarkets in a town these days in Ireland?
If I did own a car I could park in a cheap (dont exist) car park and walk between 4 or 5 shops 20 minutes walk from the car surely?
I tried the tesco own brand tea and I recommend it. They're aldi price matched, which means they probably used to cost less than aldi but when they started that promo they upped it to match.
They've done that with free range eggs. They were €1.79 now they have a bright "PRICE MATCH" label and charging €1.95.
Man I could give you so many examples!
Their bluespark energy drink, frankfurters, ham, eggs, tea, custard creams, basic bread ...
All cheaper before price matching.
I didn’t get a parkrun email this week - is there a code? Tia

kinda sad, kinda hilarious, they seriously think people are stupid, price match my ass :)
Wish the Consumers Protection would look in to that price match crap by Tesco. Price matching is anti competitive and is cartel like behaviour. I dont want Tesco to match Aldis price, I want them to beat them so Aldi reacts and lowers their prices. Thats how competition is supposed to work but it doesnt when one supermarket is matching the prices in the other.
Don't wish, do it https://www.ccpc.ie/consumers/consumers-home/contact/
Lidl coming out fighting.
They did have some really good bargains last Christmas. LOL at the one above.
Comparing their own brand to Lindt. I thought they got in trouble before for doing those sort of comparisons?
That was the gold bunny which Lindt claimed was their thing. Tbf Santa is not really trademark-able / IP-protectable I would say 😂
I got 3 cabury chocolate santas in Aldi at the weekend - reduced from 4e each to e2.50 each - average size but I like the cadbury chocolate. Lindt chocolate is way overpriced, especially the chocolate santas.
Edit: actually it was Lidl I got them!
I don't mean a trademark issue. I meant comparing an own brand product to a branded one. Actually I think it was Aldi who were told to stop doing it. They used to have a trolley of their own products and compare it to a trolley of branded goods from another Supermarket. It's not comparing like with like. I'm not a fan of Lidl's cheap chocolate. Their premium stuff is nice though.
Oh right I get you - and agree it's not like they are the same product like brennans bread in both shops. This was what I meant - I would have given the bunnies a good home :D

Slight correction 😁 Lidls premium stuff is REALLY nice - best supermarket chocolate on the market by some distance.
They should if they didn't, it's really disingenuous, especially when they probably sell the premium brand themselves for more or the same price.
Stick a competitors name on a price they don't control, free money rolls in.
omg how cheap 50% off chocolate bar scratchard buhahhaa
This week’s coupon code is
PARKRUN897
and will allow you a choice between
loose pears
or
Irish mushrooms
from Lidl
to help fuel you for, or recover from, your weekly parkrun.
Ooh, more pears, excellent! Despite my scepticism last week, they were gorgeous!!
Send Lidl a Thank You card 😍
...
yeah they were decent pears for a change, half the time they would be rock hard and them mouldy the next day
The mushrooms should last me until Christmas. The last lot were perfect after a month. Feck knows what they are putting into them these days.
The Lidl app is a pain in the h0l€. The Parkrun offer is for free conference pears this week, activated it and scanned my barcode app, even asked the assistant did that go through. She said yes, so I took it that it did. Get home, check the receipt, it didn't go through. I wouldn't have picked them up otherwise.
So I've paid for fruit I didn't want and lost out on a scratchcard. All the supermarkets are getting stingier and stingier, so any little bonus helps. Could I go in with the receipt, get the refund and whatever Lidl points added to my account?
Get on to Customer services via the app, always found it no hassle and they usually throw in a voucher on the app and renew the deal so it’s available again

Thanks for your help. I'll see how it goes.
