I think it will be FF/FG again with god knows who. Hopefully a left wing party
It will be November 15th
Simply put, hoist by their high moral grandstanding and save the planet zeal( the reality is unless we tackle the big polluters we can do very little here to end the climate crisis) and their willingness to be whipping boys and girls just to be in power.
Treating Ryan Ireland like pariahs
Ryanair you mean? I would have thought that stuff would go down well with a lot of Green voters…
I meant rural Ireland and the agricultural sector
Dublin Central will be close, the monk only got half of steensons votes so if FF and GP break for labour in a big enough way he wont make it
The problem for the soc dems is that they are labour youth but under a different brand.
Daithí is a nice man, highly committed, great craic, outgoing but he is radical left. Not centre left, a fan of Mao, Mao ffs.
Old Rodders was more concerned with social issues not environmental?
In fairness to Ryan he was true Green and didn't give a fuk if everyone was gonna hate him for it.
A lot of people who vote for these people in SF, SD, Green, Lab, PBP etc simply do not realise how extremist they really are.
It's fascinating stuff.
The commentators on RTE recon the monk is most likely to get the seat because he's 2k votes ahead, but that would require FF and GP voters (of which there's nearly 5k transfers in the mix) to have given him a preference ahead of labour...
I think labour will take the seat
Unfortunately this is true. The parties are forced to field a quota of female candidates, the local Party infrastructure invest resources in them and then when they get eliminated only a proportion of their vote finds its way to the other candidates of the Party in the constituency.
The Indians in West County Dublin are going to be the same in the next election. They will get their citizenship, turn out to vote and vote for Indian candidates pushing Indian friendly policies like low tax(because they in their hearts don't agree with a welfare state) and easy residency/family re-unification.
If you listened to what he said, he said that people who vote for women tend to transfer to women. Not that all women vote for women.
What's going on in Cavan-Monaghan to say they haven't had a first count yet?
Count just in.
Why did it take so long? They didn't have the biggest electorate in the country or the longest ballot paper, did they?
Don't know, it's never been quick.
Aodhán Ó Ríordáin opposes Labour going into government alone with Fianna Fail and Fine Gael.“Looking at the disrespect Fine Gael has shown the Greens, it is galling to watch... we remember what they were like in 2011 to 2016.”
Any Labour watchers/experts know, is O'Riordan in the Bacik camp?
Brian Stanley putting the boot into Mary Lou McDonald. RTE had to step in and stop him.
There is another Rural Independent to support the FG/FF coalition. We have 1FG, 1FF and 1 Ind in both Laois and Offaly now.
Currently on Newstalk bítchin about his ex
Wow, a Labour politician speaking truth.
Just watched Brian Stanley interviewed by Sarah McInerney. NO love lost between BS & his ex party leader
I doubt it. He said Mary Lou had lied and not surprisingly RTE stepped in to refute that claim.
Doesnt look like FFG will need them.
Independent Ireland and Independents looks like enough.
There won’t be Christmas cards exchanged.
Speaking as an ex labour supporter, I find it most disappointing to see Bacik getting elected.
On RTE radio on Friday night after the exit poll came out the panel were discussing how it's actually easier to deal with independents when forming a government.
I think the thinking is that with independents is that they don't have a large variety of demands, and you just deal with those demands.
With a political party as a junior partner you have to appease them on a bigger range of policies.
Hayes of Soc Dems looks set to take seat in DBS: biggest shock of the election if it happens, given so many big beasts in that constituency?
The local FG and FF TDs will be quite happy to work alongside the Independents in Laois and Offaly as they too, rightly or wrongly, will take a portion of the credit for any investment which comes to the counties and any policies which benefit those rural counties.
RTE are banking on many being non transferable at this point in the race
