Why wouldn't they go in ?, they're not and never have been anything other than a labour party for those who felt temporarily embarrassed, they hold rock solid establishment views ,they belong in government and would be badly damaged if they didn't go in ,they are not radicals so suit comfortable times

Ivan Yates on newstalk says they will end up with around 22 to 23 percent and the largest party. They wouldn't end up on 17 anyway that's a fact

Fianna Fáil on the hunt for a lot of second seats, even a third in Carlow-Kilkenny. It'll come down to the final counts. I wouldn't be surprised if they get 50 seats, it potentially could be as high as 56 if the transfers hold up from their coalition partners.
Ha ha be great if that came to pass and FG said no thanks to being a mudguard.
If the Fine Gael vote had fallen back as predicted I think they would have been reluctant to go back in, but it's hard to interpret this as a clear signal from the electorate that they want Fine Gael out.
The national first preference won't be far enough apart to suggest anybody got "beaten"
Every party will be claiming a moral victory of sorts.
I think the "inflation" caused by the increase in Dáil seats will help parties put a positive spin on results too.
In order to have the same proportion of seats in the Dáil as they did after the last election, a party needs to gain 9% more seats in this election.
So SF or FF could gain 3 seats and claim the voters are endorsing them, but their actual fraction of the Dáil won't have changed.

It's amusing how far off the mark Newstalk are with this, all of the parties listed will be significantly higher when the dust settles. They're just going with the running order and calling the seats without any consideration for transfers.
